| July is OK too. This is the "Middle" of the season up here. We start
the first week in April and go through November. The Salmon tend
to migrate from West to East through the summer. I'd suggest Sodus
Point (Sodus Bay) or Oswego in July. Sodus should give you more
choices on fish. ie Salmon, Browns, Lakers, Steelhead, Rainbows
and a few Atlantic Salmon.
What you should expect in size;
-Salmon: 15 to 30 lb
-Browns: 8 to 15 lb
-Rainbow/Steelhead: 8 to 20 lb
Also, if you want to do some "Bassin", July is a great time out
of Sodus.
I don't know the Charter guys there, but I know a guy quite well
out of Ithaca, NY who fishes anywhere on the lake and is good.
His name is Gust Freeman at (607)-273-2861. He is a specialist on
Salmon and Browns. He uses a 22' Tiara "Hot Pursuit" with a 185
Evinrude and a kicker. If you give him a call, tell him I told you
to call (he is a good fishing buddy of mine).
bottom line----July is good fishing on Ontario. You might fish deeper
and a little off shore but, you WILL CATCH FISH!!!
Good luck
Don

Sodus Point gets my vote. I (and a couple o' friends) chartered
out of Sodus last (you guessed it) August and had a FANTASTIC time.
If you care for the whole story, and/or the name of the charter
captain, send mail.

This is a report on fishing Lake Ontario in July. Three of us went
on a one day charter out of Henderson Harbor (approx. 6 hr. drive from
Salem N. H.) aboard a 27ft. Sea Ray. Salmo charters has the know
how and the equipment to provide a great fishing experience for
all, from the novice to the series fisherman. I would recommend to
anyone yearning for that memorable fishing trip at a very reasonable
cost to look into Salmo Charters, call Lew or Tom at 1-800-648-1074,
315-938-7332, or 315-846-5326 or write them at P. O. Box 428 Henderson
Harbor, NY 13651 and tell 'em Paul sent ya.
Here is the total for the day:
9 keeper lakers between 6-12 lbs.
2 throw back lakers (law req. fish between 27-30 inches be released)
1 brown trout 9 lbs.
2 king salmon, 1 30 lbs. 6 ounces, 1 23 lbs. 8 ounces.
I know we'll be going back.

Well I just got back Wed night from lake O from a one day charter
that a friend of mine won in a raffle, the day we went out was Aug
2 from oswego on Mary Lynn Charter.
For anyone wanting to charter in lake O I would not recomend this
Charter to anyone, the Capt. definatly knew his stuff and had plenty
of equipment (5-$6,000.00) in lures and squids.
The way he fished was unreal 30lb. test line (2 times what you
need) never changed lure design just lure colors twice, we boated
4 fish 3 lakers 1 brown 2 lakers went back in (27-30") 1 was
a real beauty 17 1/2 lb the brown was 7 1/2 lb, 4 fish in 8hrs is
not putting us on fish and the capt buddy was around us close
and he had 3 kings on in a hour he was heading in at noon and he
called to give us his coordinates and our capt said no we are staying
where we are.
The whole day stunk dig time.
next weekend we are takin Rogers boat out and see
if we cant do any better on our own after all we cant do much worse.
Gone fishin..............

990.6 | lake O in july good | MTADMS::GEIBEL | NOTHIN LIKE FISH ON ! | Tue Jul 10 1990 13:15 | 35 |

Well I just got back from 2 days on the big O, arrived sunday july
1 1:30 am up at 6 on the water around 8 am wind out of the n.e rough
sea'swent out to 180 ft no luck went into 120 picked up a 10 lb
laker. wind picked up to 15-20 time to get off the lake. so we piddle
farted around oswego for a while fished the river no luck still
rough.
Monday morning on the lake around 7 am Chharter boats talking
of going out to 350-600 ft I started marking fish around 80 ft then
saw kings stacked on the fish finder and told the wife we are staying
right here.
Set up the rods and sat back down 5 min later a dipsy rod went
off 12lb laker into the boat, rod back out sat down 4-5 min later
the other dipsy rod went off peeled 20-30 yrds real quick then stopped
picked it up set the hook then the music started handed the rod to
my wife and said hold on brought up the other rods and 27 min later
I neted my wifes first king salmon a healthy 26 lber. put the rods
back out and the dipsy rod went off again before I could get out
of the seat the stealhead was clearing the water, then the other
dipsy rod went off and my wife came back and she was battling a
laker then a downrigger rod came up and started pounding I said
whoever gets the first fish in get the other rod cause that fish
is still on, I boated my stealli then grabed the other rod and boated
a 4.5 lb brown and then landed Carols laker .
to be continued.

990.7 | REEL TIME HELD TRUE TO ITS NAME | MTADMS::GEIBEL | NOTHIN LIKE FISH ON ! | Thu Jul 12 1990 13:19 | 30 |

Well after all the excitement of the morning we went into dock
around 11:00 am, took pictures, cleaned fish, ate lunch, and slept
for a couple hours.
We headed back out around 5:30pm and set up around 120ft again
trolled marked fish but no takers then went into 90ft and the starboard
dipsy rod went off zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzziiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnggggggggg
KING ON, he cut right across the back of the boat between the
downrigger cables and the mono from the rods and didnt even tangle
them he did wrap up the port dipsy rod but some fancy moves fixed
that.
Handed the rod to my wife and I brought up the downriggers
and other dipsy rod she gave me back the rod and the battle was
insued for 50 long arm aching minutes he fought, I would gain 20-30
yards of line and then he would take it right back out again.
30 min into the fight I finally got to see him behind the boat
right on the surface I said holly.... Carol said how big is he,
Well he looks real close to 30. and at the end he just rolled onto
his side and came to net and I threw the rod down and he landed
on the deck a beautifull 33 lb king salmon.
Cant wait to go back.

990.10 | The Big O is great anytime. | BTOVT::PHELPS | | Thu Feb 07 1991 17:06 | 10 |
| I hope this thing works. (First time at notesfile). I can tell you I've
been fishing Lake O for four years now even though I live on Lake
Champlain and Lake O is full of fish in July and August. Spring is also
good. I fish out of Oak Orchard Creek which is north on Rte. 98 just
off the New York State Thruway between Rochester and Buffalo.
Originally I fished off a charter called Thrillseeker with a Capt.
Vince Pierlieoni who is fantastatic and really works for his money.
Then I bought my own 22 ft. Sylvan Offshore boat and spend as much time
over there as possible. If you need any more info let me know. John in
VT.

| Okay, well my father has straightened me out about where we are
going. We are heading up the the Thousand Islands area of Ontario.
Has anybody ever fished here? Supposedly this place has tons of Bass.
If you have fished here and wouldn't mind sharing some info with
me, then that would be great! Information such as best lures, size
of fish, unseen hazards to wathc out for, etc.
Thanks,
Rodney

Does anybody have any hotspots for BASS on Lake Ontario?
Any info would be great! I will be taking my bass boat up
and won't be using guides. Any information would be great!
Thank you in advance,

You do not have to go far.

Try the oswego area around the break walls inside the bay and out on
the lake. I have been doing excellent on the lake around sodus(my home
port) out to 50' they have been hitting anything you drag in front of
them. of course when they are spawning its not too hard to get one!
And they al have been smallies- alot in the 5-7 lb range.
Good luck
