980.0. "FAIR new fishing items" by LUDWIG::MATTSON () Fri Feb 10 1989 08:17

I went down to the Fair in Worcester last night to get some paint.
While I was there I figuired I'd see if there were any good prices
on any leftover fishing items. To my suprise they had tons of stuff
already out. Usally when I go in there there's only 2-3 rows of
fishing items. They now have 2-3 rows on just rods and reels.
I 've never seen this much stuff in a non fishing store. I
didn't notice anything on sale though. But if you got the itch to
start browsing I don't think you'll be disapointed. There's lots
of Lures, rubber worm and grub kits with many different color
variations,I guess because they just got put out and haven't been
    picked through yet.

980.1FAIR FISHING SHOW PACKER::BACZKOWhen the water is hard DRILL A HOLE!Fri Feb 10 1989 08:417
    Gary,
THe Fair has got a mini fishing show going on this week end or
next. They usually have the reps of the items they carry. But
itis a real let down from the CENTRUM Show being it is only a week
or two later. One good thing ITS FREE.

980.2Sudden growth followed by gradual shrinkageSPMFG1::CUZZONESSurfcasting with the AlienFri Feb 10 1989 11:0710

I've noticed the same expansion of fishing depts in the local KMart
and Caldor. KMart should be having it's annual sale now but the
Bass Pro sale catalog is far better if you can stand to wait a few
days. In the trade, this is what is know as the equipment acquisition
season. 2-3 months of non-fishing seems to put us in a purchasing
mood ... the equivalent of cabin fever.

Am I wrong, or has there been an explosive growth of interest in
fishing over the last few years? I don't recall ever seeing so much
fishing "stuff" in so many stores as there seems to be now, and
some of them seem to carry the stuff year-round, though in lower
quantities in the off season (if there is one).

I think it's at least partially due to the cable TV fishing shows...

re .3 I think what it is also due to is that a round of golf costs
nearly $30.00 for green fees, the courses don't take tee times and
the round takes over six hours to complete. For the average guy
that takes away one leisure time activity prompting them to try
    something else....like fishing.

    Les,
I heard from someone else also that this show was coming up. Have
you or anybody out there gone to one? Is it worth going to? Is there
a big crowd usally? The Centrum show was pretty good, but the one
at the Big E. in Springfield is coming up at the end of this month.
I here that puts even the Centrum to shame.

    	  P.S.
Does Ray Tadry reaaly know anything about fishing.

THe FAIR show is small but they usually put alot of items on sale
that meet or beat BASS-PRO's prices. So that is the bottom line.
I only went once and dont think I'll go again unless I cant go fishing
    that day.

    Les

BTW. The only thing Tadry knows about fishing (AND I COULD BE WRONG)
          is this.

If it RAINS, gets COLD, or is MISTY outside HE DONT FISH!!

OR If after an hour and he dont catch any he's leavin'

:-) :-) :-) Ask the GITZIT' for conformation on this.
980.8Fair Show 2/17-18LUDWIG::MATTSONMon Feb 13 1989 11:188
    Les,
Well the show is this weekend at the FAIR. Just Friday and Saturday
though,I didn't see anything listed for Sunday. Supposedly if you
get your 89 fishing license at the show, they'll fill your reel free.
I forget the exact brand name of line it was. If GOD intended fishing
to be done year round, he wouldn't have created ICE.

Checked out the FAIR last night....and yes they are chock full
of fishing items....but as stated in an earlier note, you can't
beat the prices in Bass Pro.

But Oh Boy!!! was it hard not walking out of there with a mitt full.
Had to keep thinking...BP....BP...check out BP. Have I become smitten
by this sport....wandering around stores reading the backs of lure
boxes?......I think I need a fix of open water!

things they are spreading about you....just terrible.

PS to Ray...can I borrow your motor this weekend...-)

    Mike,

I justed looked at the fine print on the bottom of the flyer,it
say's the sale prices are in effect from Today 16th-18th Saturday.
It also states while supplies last. I guess that means no Rain Checks.
