    Are you saying the 'club' mentioned was referring to those of us at
    our notesfile tournament, or are you referring to one of the real
    bass clubs mentioned in here, and if so which club?

    Either way, it'd be real interesting to have the article posted
    in here of someone can get ahold of it...

    The whole article was about the lack of fish in that lake 
    and the tournaments of this notes file that fail to produced
    many fish..
    
    Steve who said earlier he had been Misquoated by a local
    writer was refering to ( I assume ) this article since his
    entry was on the 14th of Nov and this appeared in the Nov. 12
    issue. Also it is the same "Steve"
    
    It was a nice article and Stan Burchowski ( sp ) said he would see
    if he could find out some answers. I would estimate the article
    was maybe a 500 words or better. Maybe even 1000.
    
    I wanted to enter the article but as I explained earlier it was
    discarded. :-(
    
    I am sure that it can be found buy someone, anyone in the 
    Springfield area.

    I have corresponded on and off with Stan Berchulski, one of the
    outdoor writers for the Springfield (Ma.) Newspapers (Union-News daily
    and Sunday Republican) for some time.  He and I live in the same
    town and fish some of the same places.  From time to time, when
    he can't find anything to write about, he digs into his "fanmail"
    to answer/raise questions or just to fill a column.
    
    The column as it appeared in friday's Union-News:

             CAN ANYBODY OUT THERE SOLVE THE MYSTERY OF MONOMONAC ?    
    
    "It was with great pleasure that I read Sunday's column and the
    unlocking of of the secrets of Windsor Pond," writes basser Steve
    Cuzzone of West Springfield.  "My father owned a couple camps on
    the pond back in the late sixties and I fished it many times as
    a kid without notable success."
    
    "Now that you've established your credentials as Stan the Man, outdoor
    detective," he adds, "how about solving the mystery of Lake Monomonac?
    ... A group of co-workers has held several tournaments there over
    the last few years and most of us end up getting skunked time and
    time again."
    
    The group keeps going back, Cuzzone says, because most members live
    in Massachusetts or New Hampshire.  Monomonac straddles the border
    in Winchendon and Rindge and is handy geographically as well as
    convenient economically because of the reciprocal agreement on licenses
    and boat registrations.
    
    Otherwise, thses bassers fish anywhere in a circle formed by Seattle,
    Scotland, Louisiana's Lake Bistineau, Puget sound (for steelheads),
    Okeechobee (for bass) and Vermont's Clyde River for salmon.  I hope
    that's the Clyde he's talking about.
    
    Monomonac looks very convincing with its "shallow weedy water, deeper
    water, islands, coves, rockpiles and plenty of forage," continues
    Steve, but only three fish were taken by 38 anglers on the groups
    last visit Oct. 1.  They've tried night fishing and spring fishing
    with no change in results.
    
    Cuzzone is looking for help from readers who have had better luck
    at Monomonac than his group has or who might know of more productive
    fishing waters in the immediate vicinity.  Let me know so I can
    let him know so he can let his colleagues know.
    
    Monomonac may not have any fish to speak of at all.  Some ponds
    and lakes look fishy but they lie.  If bassers can't find fish in
    a given body of water, nobody can.  Then there's the possibility
    that they're doing something wrong.  Best way to find out is to
    hit it before June with a trolled Cardinale on top and in close,
    which I may do if the spring gobblers don't get me first.

    Just what I need, now all of Western MA knows that you and I cant't
    find one legal fish in that dump!!  I'd be interested if he writes
    anything else.

    No answer from Berchulski & friends (although I could have missed
    it.  But, of all things, as I thumbed through a yard high stack
    of old magazines, I came across an article in a Sept '86 Mass Finsa
    and Feathers proclaiming Monomonac as a veritable fish stew where
    you can practically catch a fish on a bare hook.  I'm too disgusted
    to type the thing in here, but I'll gladly send copies to anyone
    who would agree to send a letter bomb to the author.
