897.0. "The Surf-Martha's Vineyard" by FENNEL::BAKER () Mon Oct 17 1988 11:53

I'm heading to the Vineyard for a long weekend and plan to make this the
final surf trip of the season. I have never fished on Martha's Vineyard
before and would appreciate any information or recommendations on spots,
times, tides...We will have the use of 4wd vehicle.

Thanks for any help.

    I have never fished there but I have heard wasque pt is the one
    of the best surf spots on the east coast. Check with a local
    tackle shop when you get there. I have heard there are surf guides
    you can hire that will take you to the hot spots.

    Good luck.

897.2MV GOOD FISHIN!LEDS::BEAULIEUMon Oct 17 1988 13:4521
    I have fished Marthas Vineyard for about 10 years now. My father has
    been for about 20yrs, he lives there. As Bruce suggested Wasque
    point is excellent fishing . Although you said you have access to
    a 4wd vehicle ,you cant go out there with out the proper permits
    which cost you about $50.00. But if you dont mind doing a little
    walking you can take the Chappiquidick ferry and drive on roads
    to the parking area from there its about a twenty minute walk to
    Wasque. Unless you dont mind paying for the permits ? Then you
    could drive right out there . I suggest calling Larry's tackle shop
    in Edgartown they can tell you where the fish are. The west going
    tide is best out at Wasque . East beach has also been good.
    Some other places to try would be Menemsha and lobsterville ,
    the big and little bridges on state beach road (try rebels at
    day break for stripers here!)
    If I can answer any other questions Just drop me a mail.

    P.S. The people down there pronouce WASQUE -Way swee .
    Dont ask me how you get that from that but they will
    correct you if you call it Was kee like I do
