876.0. "IS IT THE MOON?" by STRATA::WOOLDRIDGE (Worm fishermen have stiffer rods) Fri Sep 09 1988 15:55

This note can be used to vent fishing frustrations bummers or general
wierd things that have happened to you of late. For example, the
reason I am writing this is because in two days I:

    1. broke the tips off of two rods.

    2. I rolled my electric window up on my graphite bionic blade and
sheared it in HALF! Not repairable I presume?...

    3. I dumped my tackle box all over the ground. (I have since decided
that clamps near the handle are a poor design/ ie plano phantom)
DO NOT forget to clamp em and proceed to pick up the box.....

    4. One of my rods fell overboard. (I got it back)

                                                        NIGHTCRAWLER~~~~~~~

    I snapped my ultralight. I caught a dock. 1 1/2 hour ride to Barton's
cove, no fish. It kinda bummed me right out. Let's put a big order
    into Bass Pro.

876.7WHAT'S A KEEPER SEAGULL?DNEAST::FREISE_DALEMon Sep 12 1988 16:046
Two weekends ago, my pedestal seat broke off at the pin. I landed
on my back in the bottom of the boat---my rod hit somewhere in 12
feet of water. Last weekend a seagull scooped up my last Zara Spook.
I did get the Zara Spook back(played it like a pro) but my rod is
still out there. Atleast the fish are biting to make it worth while.

Besides six unsuccessful tuna trips this year the last one ended
    on a real down note...

After a nice ride in from stellewagon in the rain I went to pull
my lobster pots. Well...I come up on the first group of them and
can't find one pot. Some ass went and chopped it off and its gone
for good (about $45 bucks gone). Go to the second group and try
to haul one up and its hung up on the bottom. Try to pull it
off with the boat and snap goes the 3/8 pot warp. 2 traps gone!!
And to boot no keeper bugs out of about 20 in the remaining
    traps.

Desperatly seeking Charlie more than ever!

Belive it or not even us "Masters" have those kind of days...

    Let me share this one...

I had recently picked up a bass pro shop mean green stick for
one of my Diawa mag force baitcasters. My boat has resessed mooring
cleats in the bow. During our clubs 2 day tourney at lake Memphramagog
in Magog Quebec Canada, the first day SAT was a nitemare on elm
    street.
I picked up my 1 1/2 week old green stick which had firmly wedged
itself under the mooring cleat and snap!! Well a tear was shead
I opened the rod locker and took out the old diawa rod and continued.
An hour later on the other mooring cleat as I grab the rod quick
to through the crankbait into a school of smallies Snaaap!!.
Needless to say only 1 of 3 baitcasters were used for the rest
    of the weekend.

The Skoal Bandit and I sneaked away yesterday PM killed some small
    mouth. (real small tho.)
Anyway - I spent the time with a deepcyle of only 10 volts. Pretty
sure I cooked one cell on the damm thing due to poor charging equipment
and letting the cells get dry last year. Now have 'super' charger
and will have new battery by weeks end. See entry into that *Note*.

Now for the REALLY sad part
    -
I opened my rod locker - cover opens into the boat - and lifted
out my new bright clean two handed crankin stick - have it straight
up almost out - knee hits cover and closes cover. Bandit says "pray".

I got real stiff worm rod - has one less guide - the top one.
I know better. I already did TWO Stealhead rods on one trip last
winter - and one of those was handmade..

Its a good thing the Zyla(s) (PK's and the original) are close
    by.

Geez Jack, mentioning your battery reminded that during our club
tourny this past weekend, I discovered my MinnKota's 5th speed was
dead - and it had totally slipped my mind... have to take a look
    at it tonight.............. donmac
876.12This one is for you ice fisherman.ADVAX::ALLINSONTue Sep 13 1988 13:4025

So I go ice fishing on a Sunday, great day about 30 degrees.
Catch a few perch kinda slow when I get another flag.I get
to the tilt and the line is peeling off like crazy,I set
the hook and reel in a 29" Northern pike great!I go to the
car to get the camera, close the door and lock my keys inside!!
So much for going anywhere soon.I go back and as I take the
hook out of the pike I get the hook stuck in my hand.I get
that out and look over to where all my stuff is and there
is a dog snooping around, next thing I know he picks up my
lunch and starts running for land,on with the chase!! I get
lunch back after throwing a ladle at him. Then its time to
leave.Leave?? I should have never gone!!! I have to walk a
little more than a mile to a phone(leaving all my equipment
near shore hoping no one takes it) I call someone tell them
what happened and got rescued without losing any equipment,WHEW!

                                         What fun!?!?!?!?!??!

876.13To fish or not to fish??EJMVII::BMURRAYWed Sep 14 1988 14:1616
    Happened to my fishin partner..
Late August were up on the Cape for vacation- we decided to check
out Long pond-I've got a 6 lb. bucketmouth hangin on my wall and
my bro-in -law wants one BAD-he lays into something big-after about
two minutes of tryin to get this "thing" closer a very large largemouth
comes flyin clear out of the water and throws the hook-@#$%&*...
-a week later here in Ct. we hit Lake Lilinnoah-in two hours we
bring in 7 largemouth and 6 smalls-biggest large was about 3 lbs.
and biggest small was about two lbs.-what a day!! Just as we think
our great day is over he hooks into a beautiful largemouth -dancin
and divin he played it for about a minute with this rinky-dink
Zebco special that hadn't had the drag set since he had it-anyways-
    Snap goes the line-@#$%^&*...tears.
-a week later both his rods and tacklebox are stolen out of his
car by someone without as much class as the dirt on my shoe.
I wonder if this sport was really meant for him???
