857.0. "Out of the black and into the BLUE(s)" by SCOMAN::WOOLDRIDGE (Worm fishermen have stiffer rods) Mon Aug 22 1988 14:35

    YO,
I went on my first Blue fishing trip last week. Chartered a
boat out of Rock Harbor on the cape in Orleans. It was an 8hr leaving
at 4:30am. Just four fighting chairs and four madmen. I HAVE NEVER
HAD A BETTER TIME FISHING! We had nonstop action ALL day. My largest
was 16lbs. We must have caught 150 fish. To see a Blue tail dance
on stainless steel line 200 yards out is A TRIP! We kept what we
wanted to eat and released the rest of the day. 10lb fish was the
average with some 15-18lb fish taken. (largest at 18.6)

Location: east of the target ship several miles out off the Wellfleet
              /Truro coast line to P-Town. Trolling @ 4-6 knots in ~2ft
of water with fake squid. Orange and clear worked
               best.

                                      REELING...

I salute the SPORTFISHERMAN. I can now relate! I'll never
                                           forget the experience!

857.1Oh! What a Feeling!!EBBV02::DOMINICKJoe Dominick 272-7054Mon Aug 22 1988 14:5414

It sounds like you had a great time!!!! I too had the best fishing
trip of my life this past weekend. Although I didn't catch as many
blues as you did on your trip, I caught and boated my first bluefish.
It was only a fifteen pounder...but what a fighter. I even broke
the tip off of a brand new Penn Slammer Rod fighting the fish. I
had the drag set right, but the rod was defective.

I had gone bluefishing many of times before. I have gotten strikes,
cleaned hooks, broken lines and shut-outs on previous trips. But
I finally broke the jinx and boated 10 of the toothy blues....

The area I was trolling was out of Salem-Beverly Harbor. About
    a mile beyond Baker's Island.

    re; .2
The charter was "HAY DAD". It was $70 for 8hrs. $60 for
4hrs. If you figure travel time on the water the 8hr is much better
for only 10 bucks more. 15 charters go out of the harbor and many
were trolling near us. If interested I have the ph# at home and
will post it here. The capt. has been going out of the harbor for
15 years. The mate said he was the old man of the harbor. I believe
it after this trip. My arms still hurt!

857.6HELP! Are they running in R.I.??GIAMEM::LEAHYWed Jul 05 1989 16:289
Hi, Can anyone tell me if the blues or stripers are running near
the Misquamicut (sp?) beach in Rhode Island? My son would like
to do some surf fishing this week and I would prefer a nice flat
sandy area as opposed to the CC canal. I also asked the same question
    in the R.I. conference.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

                        Jack
