822.0. "Mass. Budget Cuts" by PCCAD1::RICHARDJ (Bluegrass,Music Aged to Perfection) Fri Jul 29 1988 09:46

I'm putting this info here, because I feel its going to effect the fish
stocking program in Mass as well as other Fish and Game Dept. programs.
I've also put it into the Hunting cnference, so if its not apprpriate
    here please delete it.

My wife was talking with Dave Williams, supervisor of the High Ridge
game managment area, on rt140 in Gardner, Mass. My wife does volunteer
work there and so she knows Dave and the others that work for the
Fish and Game Department. I asked her to ask Dave about the pheasant
stocking for this fall, because with the Mass. budget mess we have,
I'm worried about the up comming fall hunting season going to hell.
Well my worries, have come true. He said that High Ridge, and Birch
Hill managment areas are being phased out of the stocking program.
Hubardston and Bare will remain, but the departments budget is being
cut so badly, that they may have layoffs, resulting in less stocking.

It cost money to stock pheasants and fish, as you all know. With Dukakis
taking the money form the Fish and Game department to balance his overspent
budget, you can expect a lousy stocking program this fall and spring.

In other budget cuts, we talked to Dave about motor boat violations,
on the lake I live on. He said that the departments budget was reduced
so that, the officer in charge of boating law enforcement Mariam
Larson is limited to traveling 30 miles per day. That means from
her office to my lake is 30 miles one way, which means she would
have to sleep there and travel back the next day. What erks me is
I just renewed my boat registration, and the fee went from $10.00
to $20.00. This money is not used for the Department of Recreational
Vehicles use, but its put into other Dukakis programs that have
    blown the sate budget.

I guess I,m going to train my dog towards grouse hunting, it looks
    more promissing.

Maybe if you train your dog towards "Duke biting" we might all be
better off! Hee hee...! I hope he's a BIG dog!!

822.4See the Duke make a mess and leave Mass.VIDEO::LEVESQUEI fish, therefore I am.Fri Jul 29 1988 11:0215
It just goes to show how the political ambitions of one guy can
adversely affect us all. First of all, I think Dukakis is a @#$%@
^&*!#@!, and this only reinforces my view. It should be law that
fees and revenues acquired under the premise of supporting a program
or resource be utilized only for that program or resource. Why should
we as fishermen pay increased fees purportedly to support our endeavor,
only to see the money diverted to other use? One aside to this diatribe
is that these sort of shenanigans happen in every state in the union,
    even NH.

Back to Duke bashing: I don't know hardly anyone who will admit
to supporting the Duke. To those who do support him: "Be careful
what you wish for, because someday you might get it!"

I'm not happy about what is going, but let's lay the blame where it
belongs, on us. If you are pissed off about these things, you need to
tell your state representative. You also can send an angry letter to
the Duke too. You can get involved.

Yes, it is a pain, and the Duke has a head start. The various F&G
programs might slow down some, but if you let your feelings be known
(and if enough others care) then things will be back to normal,
    or even better.

Keep in mind this November when voting that one of the Dukes favorite
sayings is that he wants to "do for the whole country what he has
done for Massachusetts". Personally I think we already have enough
    problems.

I have this mildly interesting story regarding You Know Who that
happened to me a few years back.

I was given a 12 ft row boat by my father who had owned it since
the early sixtys, Now I wanted to be an upright citizen of the
commonweath of mass and register the thing for a 10 hp outboard.
As some of you may or may not know; Any thing given within a family
is tax excempt. ie: Autos, Boats, ect.

Well my attempts to register the boat were met by a request to produce
a registration from my father. I sure a lot of folks safeguard 20
year old expired boat registrations: But ??? I just didn't have
    one handy.

So I had to pay the TAX! all of $7.50 . How they arrived at that
    ammount?????
    This is what transpired.

    Heres the $7.50 Cash.
    "WE DON"T ACCEPT CASH"
Whoes Idea is that, not to accept U.S. Currency?
"DUKE PASSED THE LAW LAST TIME HE WAS IN OFFICE"
Well thats dum? Do you take Visa?
    "NO"
    Mastercharge?
    "NO"
How the He-l am I gonna pay?
    "POSTAL MONEY ORDER"

I had to go to the post office and pay $1.00 so I could get a money
order to pay a Tax that I wasn't even lible for. Just so I could
then pay my registration fee, to use a boat, in water that I own
as a taxpayer. Funny how things go in circules.

The water around Boston Harbor currently have a fecal choloform level of
greater then 4000 parts per 100ml. They normally will close the
beaches when the level reaches 200.
It's nice to know that the Duke and his administration have done
so much for the enviroment while working his "Ma. Miracle". He
actually claims to be a proponent of clean harbors and such.

    YO,
   1. As I understand it, fish tumors are a delicacy if gently simmered
with turtle meat and crayfish heads in wine, with scallions and butter.

   2. How can all of you rag on a person with eyebrows like that. You
should be ashamed of yourselves. I think we should elect someone
with covert CIA experience and a track record of being associated
with dishonest lieing crooks too. Heck maybe Meese should run...
or better yet Nixon. Ahhh, people forget. The government knows
      it too.
Waiter, there's a tumor in my soup!

822.16pay attention people!ANT::NOYESThu Aug 04 1988 18:0813
I can't stand it any longer, everybody here is complaining about
all of this #$%^ happening to us. Well folks, think about it, we
asked for some of this!!!! We as sports people who enjoy our outdoor
activities would all prefer to be left alone to partake of our chosen
sport. So what happens is, we tend to not pay attention to what
is happening in the statehouse and as a result we are continually
blindsided with new distastefull legislation.... I'm guilty of this,
we all are guilty of this. Everybody here seems to hate "whatshisname"
so how does he continue to be elected?????????????????????????????????
We ALL need to be more active!!!!!!!
