760.1 | Southern NH fishing spots | VIDEO::LEVESQUE | I fish, therefore I am. | Fri Jun 10 1988 17:04 | 58 |
| Since you don't specify what kind of fishing you're interested
in, I'll tell you about the two most popular:bass & trout.
Bass and other warmwater species:
Pawtuckaway: in Raymond/Nottingham. While probably more effectively
fished from a boat, there are numerous places where you can fish
from shore. There is an abundance of shallow water on the northern
edge of the lake, especially around Fundy bay (boat launch area).
This is a good area for bass and pickerel. I caught a pickerel there
last Saturday on a rubber worm with a curly tail. Bring your insect
repellant!
Baboosic Lake: in Merrimack. Haven't fished myself in a long time
so I'm not sure how the shore access is. Used to be good fishing
for bass and pickerel.
Pennichuck: Nashua, Merrimack. Nashua's source of drinking water.
Very little fishing pressure but limited access from shore. I used
to jump the fence when I was a kid. The fishing is usually pretty
good. I've seen some mammoth bass come out of that place. If you're
not worried about being told to leave, then go for it. Try to park
your car in an unobtrusive spot. It will keep the police from
investigating. The Pennichuck people who sometimes patrol don't
care if you fish there unless you are a slob or a redneck.
Merrimack River: Nashua and north. Follow Rt 3A and you will find
a number of spots to fish from shore. There is a good resident
population of smallmouth bass in here. Trout are sometimes caught
in here especially near the mouths of feeder streams and the mouth
of the Nashua river. I saw a kid with a 2 1/4 lb brookie last year.
Hot lure: super duper. Excellent fishery for carp if you are not
fussy. A can of niblet corn and you are practically guaranteed a
fat carp.I've seen specimens upwards of ten pounds taken from the
river.
Nashua river: Nashua and west. Good largemouth fishery. Rubber worms
and snake imitations work well. The area in downtown Nashua by the
now defunct Millyard Mall is supposed to be pretty good from shore.
Don Mac may be able to help you there.
Trout:
Nissitissit River: Brookline. Good stocked brookie fishery. Try
by Bohannon bridge on Bohannon Rd. (off of 130 I think). They stock
the place every year. You can usually hustle a brookie or two. Warning:
part of this river is fly fishing only.~~~~~~~~~~~
Bellamy River: near the coast- by Durham (or Dover) I think. Well
stocked with brookies, but doesn't look too exciting. Had an amazing
fish fry with our catch of stockies from there a few years ago.
Worms are very effective. I'd bet the marshmallow trick would work
well here.
That should get you a wet line at least. Now- try drowning some
worms!

Try the Merrimack in Lawrence near the hydro plant, i have landed
some nice shad just below the plant. ( 4-6lbs ) all you need is
orange darts with gold hooks, and 4lb test line.
good luck

760.6 | Hampsteed NH? | DELNI::OTA | | Thu Oct 18 1990 12:39 | 9 |
| My brother just moved to Hampsteed NH and asked me if I would post a
note asking if anyone knows of a good Largemouth and smallmouth lakes
or rivers in the area. He also asked me to ask where the hot spots are
on the lakes, but I told him if I asked that I would get lots of rude
and crude remarks about the locations, but I would ask anyway.
Any help.

760.7 | Wrong side of the River | CGVAX2::HAGERTY | Jack Hagerty KI1X | Thu Oct 18 1990 13:13 | 13 |
| Brian,
There are lots of lakes in NH. I live 'accross the river' in Merrimack,
so the hamstead area is pretty much unknown. Except for Pawtuckaway
and Big Island.
Best plan is to buy your brother a copy of 'Clarkes' fishing guide to
ALL the lakes and rivers in NH. About $10 -- depending on where you
buy. Good Xmas stocking stuffer too.
Make sure he know about Northern Bass. Its just east on 111 and North
about 3 miles up 125. They are the ONLY pure 'Bass' supply place in the
area. And, everyone who waits on you is a tournament bass
fisherperson.
The folks there are real helpful and friendly.
My opinion. Jack

760.8 | GREENWOOD LAKE?? I think... | TRACTR::WATERS | The Legend of the Lakes | Fri Oct 19 1990 11:29 | 20 |
| Kingston Nh is close to him...right?
There is a HOT little pond right after Kingston State Park. It's
located right behind a church. Right after the Kingston Common on the
left.
As far as the hot spots to fish....tell him to start in the water!
This pond use to produce BIG fish....I saw Buzz Sheppard catch a 7lber
out of there...he released it.
I took a 6 1/2 out of there.....that was the same night GOD told me I
was the Legend of the Lakes.
Good luck...and let me knoe if it still produces.
God's Pal,
The Legend

| Ditto on Kingston lake. You can try trolling a small 2" floating
Rapala of any color around the grassy island near the middle of
the lake and pick up Pick'n'rials the size of your arm.
Big Island Pond is another good spot for picks, bass, trout, white/
yellow perch etc. etc. etc.. It is located in Derry.
Arlington pond in Salem has also produced a bunch of "Lunkers"!
