754.0. "colorado 11 mile information?" by NEXUS::R_ADKISSON () Mon Jun 06 1988 17:03

    Hi,
I am going fishing at 11 mile this Saturday. My first fishing
trip this year! Does anyone know how the fishing is and what they
are biting on? I can hardly wait. Boy is this going to be a long
    week!
    Any information would be great.
    			thanks....rothel

By the way, we will be trolling.

Been a LONG time since I fished there. I had nice luck for pike
using spoon plugs ala Buck Perry. Great camping as well! I hear
the salmon are huge as well.

If your going to troll, use Rapalas in the #5 or #7 size. Good colors
are black back with silver bottom or the chartreuse green back with
white bottom. I've had very good luck with these two colors in
a floating type for rainbows and browns. Not sure about the trolling
speed, but the rod tips were bent about 8-10". Also tie them on using
the Rapala knot shown on the instructions in the box, the action
is much better. Fish in 10+ feet of water for the trout. In shallower
water you will pick up pike with those Rapalas and if your not using
steel leaders you will loose them fast.

As far as the salmon go, you'll have to get deep. Pop gear with
Rapala or Mepps spinner on the end works good.

When I've camped overnight there I put all the camping gear in the
boat and set up camp in the trees along the shore east of the boat
ramp. Just my preference, cann't hang in those camp grounds plus
there is some good night fishing in that deeper water over there.
Use garlic or plain marshmellows or cheese bait from the shore at
    night.

DO NOT use minnows/shiners, its illegal plus there are enough suckers
    in that lake.

Add a trip report to this note as I think I will go up next weekend.
    Good luck.

Just found this file, thought I could put in my two cents worth.
I do a lot of night fishing up there, in fact I was up there last
sunday, dident catch anything, not even a bite. did see a nice 23
in. rainbo that was caught about 3 hours before I got there. Was
the first time I was skunked fishing at night. I consieder myself
    lucky.
I got myself a boat and want to try my luck at trolling next
spring, any suggestions on what and where would be a lot of help.
can't wait until the next time to go night fishing.

This is the only note on Colorado, so I'll stick it here. I'm heading
to Telluride for a week leaving Wednesday evening. How much for
out-of-state licenses? Where's good for what within a 2 hour drive?
    Wayne? Somebody? Help me out.

    Thanks
