725.0. "RI Party Boats/Salt Water Report" by MODEL::DOWNING () Thu May 19 1988 10:35

    I'm going on an all day ground-fishing trip on the Super Squirrel
    party boat out of Galilee/Point Judith RI this Saturday. It's the
    only one I could find in RI that didn't require reservations well
    in advance.

    Anybody been on this one before or are there other head boats in
    RI that you can recommend that aren't all booked up?

    By the way, the Fisherman Mag says the mackerel fishing in Cape Cod
    bay is fantastic right now, especially at East end of canal.Lots
    of Tautog also at West end canal, Sesuit rock piles, and Corporation
    Beach in Dennis.

    No doubt about it, it's prime time...so much so it's hard to choose
    where to go !

    Went on the Super Squirrel. Largest party boat I've been on (over
    100 ft.). It leaves the dock at 6 AM so you've got to be there early
    in the AM.

    Most people caught eels. Some cod, some small pollock, some small
    sharks, no blues that I know of. All but one or two of the cod were
    of small size. Trip started out calm, but ended up pretty rocky.
    A number of seasickness cases. I got pretty woozy after about 4-5
    hrs. of fishing and had to call it a day (took a nap).

    My only complaint about the boat is that they do strictly drift
    fishing (no anchoring). This means it's hard to keep the bait on
    the bottom and tangled lines are the rule not the exception. That
    really cuts down on productivity. They also don't seem to spend
    more than 15 minutes in each spot.

    Other head boats I've been on will anchor for 45 minutes in one
    spot. The catch ratio always seems to be better under these conditions.
725.2Rental Gear in Newport, RI?ESRAD::FINDLEYThu May 24 1990 11:073
    Does anyone know where to rent gear in Newport, RI? Or, is there a
    way to get some good stuff cheap. I have an opportunity to fish this
    summer a few weekends.  Advice/Suggestions.
725.3The Seven B's ?GNPIKE::HANNANBeyond description...Thu Sep 06 1990 11:078
	Has anyone had any experience on the "Seven B's" Charter boat
	out of Pt Judith for blues ? I'm thinking of going out with
	them tomorrow night (friday).

	How are the blues hitting south of Rhose Island ?

	Thanks
