| yea Les, I used it down in Texas this past March. It hung up like
crazy. I couldn't get it though or over any kind of cover (read
stumps) without it snagging. The problem comes from the very exposed
hook. Unlike other spinners, the blade doesn't protect the hook.
It sure does do what its advertised to do though. All in all I will
use it, but in clearer water or rocky areas.

| YO Les,
I saw the same thing. Looks interesting but the
media/marketing hype turned me off. Were talking a video on how
to use the sucker, ha!, a pamphlet, the lures...la de da and yes
all this for only 20.00 bucks. What Ranger Ron says about snaggin
up sounds like a concern too. Sounds like it will be back ordered
for 12 years if you through Bass-Pro anyway........
Have you tried the new Willow Spin? It is a
nice lure. Weedless jig with a willow leaf spinner
on the hook. Killer.

707.4 | It Worked Once..... | MENSCH::SCHOLZ | Ron....and thanks for all the fish | Mon May 09 1988 13:57 | 11 |
| Update on Torando. I fished it this weekend (in clear rocky waters)
and hooked a 4# largemouth. So...take it for whats it worth, but
it did work, at least once ;^)
My son got a 2# smallie on a crawdad lure. Mine was a female and
getting ready to spawn in a week or two, and the smallie was a buck
probably starting to get a nest ready. His tail was still in good
shape, so he hadn't been fanning a nest yet. This was in southern
Mass.

| Ron,
You had mentioned that the Tornado wasn't very weedless. Judging from the
pictures I've seen of it, it would seem that it should be as weedless as a
standard spinner bait. Doesn't the arm that the blade is on act as a weed
guard? Or is it the hooked blade that catches up on weeds?
Thanks,

707.6 | Not Weeds so much as Stumps (logs).. | MENSCH::SCHOLZ | Ron....and thanks for all the fish | Mon May 09 1988 16:22 | 20 |
| Joe,
The problem comes from the fact that the arm goes up about 2 inches
at about a 20 degree angle and the spinner is attached at this point.
It is about a inch and half long. The hook rides out about three
inches. So, when the bait is turned by an obsticle on its side,
there is nothing to balance the lure over it. Hence the hook falls
into the obsticle and grabs it. On a standard spinner the blade
extends well over the back of the hook and the wire arm is almost
over the hook which balances the lure over cover. See below for
a very crude attempt to show what I mean.

Its an awlful lot like a short arm spinner from Strike King.
Make sense??

| Yup....and thanx. I think I'll save my $$ and stick to spinner and buzz
baits.

Although Shoestring says that this bait catches lots of bass, I
think that it catches big bass other than lot of bass. First bass
my buddy catches is 6lbs, my second bass on it is 4+lbs. I haven't
caught alot of bass on it but i also have not given it the time
of useage. I like this bait because it doesn't let you fall a sleep
at the reel. You can fish it different ways, which will allow you
to concentrate on your bait. You can cast it a mile also. can't
wait till i can use it this fall, it should be a big producer.
