| Welcome Jay. You may want to check out notes 162.*, as well as
gathering info here, there's a couple references to Sebago in there.

696.2 | Spring at Sebago | MTBLUE::OKERHOLM_PAU | | Thu Apr 28 1988 22:26 | 17 |
| { I haven't fished Sebago myself but I heard that it is producing
some nice fish this Spring. My next door neighbor is (Actually was.he
just retired this month.) the head of the warden service and he
is pretty well tuned in to whats happening around the state. He
recommended Sebago this Spring because of what the biologists have
been turning up during their tagging activities. Some good sized
Togue (Lake Trout) and Salmon.
The best places to fish are near the mouths of the rivers which
flow into it. (Songo and Muddy R?) (Anyone who has read my notes knows that
I don't have much of a memory for details like names and such) The
smelt congregate near the river mouths in the Spring and thats where
the salmon will be. Fish with anything that resembles a Smelt and you'll do
fine.
Later on in the season the Smelt disperse and the gamefish all go
deep. Its not as much fun - heavy gear and all.
Good Luck

Note 1113.0 Sebago Lake No replies
MPGS::SALVIF 14 lines 24-APR-1989 09:00
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was in the Sebago Lake area this weekend and could not
believe how beautiful the lake is, I was on rte. 302 and didn't
see any signs of ICE anywhere. Has anyone ever fished for Smallies
at Sebago?? How was it??
I was really impressed with the lake and would love some info
on real estate somewhere on the lake. If anyone knows where I could
get some information i'd be gratefull.
Anyone selling land?? Or know someone in real estate in the
Sebago area???

| Frank, Were you fishing up there?
I was also up there this weekend, Fri-Sun. We launched out
of the state park and fished the mouth of the Songo. Only boated
1 salmon and 2 browns - lost a real nice salmon at boatside.
Saw some nice looking smallie spots, but we were in salmon mode.
Real nice area.

| What were you using to catch these fish? Streamers like Joes smelt
or grey ghost? Anyone catching them on shiners?
I might be heading up there this weekend to try my luck at it. How
was the baot traffic on the lake and how rough was the lake? Did
you troll or anchor the boat? Come on now Don out w/ it I want to
catch a salmon too.
By the way I bought the ABU baitcaster 521XLT plus. Need to get
the rod now.

696.7 | love them rapalas | MOSAIC::MACINTYRE | Terminal Angler | Tue Apr 25 1989 10:10 | 10 |
| Trolling Rapalas - largest salmon on a 7 rainbow, smaller salmon and
larger brown on a J9 silver, and the smaller brown on a 9 silver.
Sewed om smelt appeared to be the local favorite. Some folks appeared
to be drifting and free lining smelt. Overall didn't see much action.
Boat traffic wasn't bad at all. The lake was REAL rough with the
wind we had over the weekend.

| Thanks, were you trolling these close to the surface or did you
have to get them down 10' or so? I thought any smelt bait was
illegal in Sebago before a certain date.

| I don't have the rules with me so I couldn't tell ya if these folks
we're legal or not, but that was the most popular bait mentioned
by the locals. We were right on top, and caught most fish in pretty
shallow water ~10-15'.

696.10 | Sebago lake | AQUA::CHINNASWAMY | | Fri Mar 30 1990 14:55 | 24 |
| Hello fellow fishermen and fisherwoman,
I was planning to go up to Sebago Lake in the third weekend in April.
Could someone please give me info on some or all of the following
items. Thanks a bundle !!!!!
Depth and fishing chart of the lake and where I could acquire it.
Where to fish in the third week of April.
What lures or bait to use.
Where to launch my boat.
Will ice be out in third week of April.
I guess I am asking for everything but reeling the fish into the boat.
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

| Welcome aboard Kumar! I hope you don't mind me moving your note to an
existing sebago lake topic, we try and minimize duplicate topics as
much as possible and use keywords in order to keep the file as useful
as possible.
Anywa, check out the previous notes in this topic (696). I was up
there last year in the 3rd week of april and the action wasn't bad. We
didn't boat too many fish, 3 or 4 if I recall, but we had a good time
and had salmon for supper. Try the mouth of the Songo and troll small
rapalas.
I borrowed Delorme's Fishing Map book for Maine and used the map in
there for depths and launches. We launched at the state park right
near the songo.
Ice was out for us, you can call a local campground and see what they
can tell ya.
Good luck, donmac

696.12 | 1 FISH LIMIT ON SEBAGO! | HPSTEK::CYGAN | | Thu Apr 19 1990 11:08 | 16 |
|
I just read a newspaper article that said Maine F+G was imposing a
ONE SALMON a day LIMIT on SEBAGO this season!@#@$@
REAL GENEROUS of 'em!
Sounds like Digital...if the spec doesn't work, change the spec,
In MAINE ----> if they didn't stock enough fish --- LOWER THE
LIMIT!
Looks like time to move on to other new england states that know
how to manage their stocking programs.

696.13 | Just a thought | DIVER1::MACHADO | Desperately seeking Trout | Thu Apr 19 1990 14:11 | 9 |
| I don't remember all of the details but could it be due to the hatchery
vandalism that occurred last year when someone let all the water out of
a few fish holding pools and killed all of the fish in them? I don't
remember what type of fish were killed or how many, although I think it
was a rather large number. But this would certainly explain why there
weren't enough fish stocked.

| A-yuh, just looked in the regs....One Salmon, 16" min...
The fish destroyed at the hatchery were trout...Brown or Brookie..
Not sure..
If your going to Sebago, I'd suggest you read the regs thoroughly.
There are a lot for Sebago...
Not even worth the trip down there...
