| Got my limit at Fort Pond today. The stocking truck was arriving
as I was leaving. They put in 900 fish. Some were over 15"
I talked to a guy who rode around Wachusett earlier in the day,
he said there were cars EVERYWHERE. Good Luck!

659.2 | Got lucky | CIMNET::GAFFNEY | NASCAR **** 600 HORSEPOWER | Mon Apr 04 1988 08:18 | 10 |
| I took a vacation day Friday and went to Wachusett Res. It was
a slow morning, but I did catch a 18 1/2" laker about 10 am.
He went for a live shiner on the bottom, I released him as he
didn't have much weight to him, about 2 1/2 pounds. Out of ten
people in my area, only 3 fish were caught, and one of those was
a short salmon. The other was a nice 4 pound salmon. Will be back
there tomorrow after work.

659.3 | Opening day | BPOV09::MROWKA | | Mon Apr 04 1988 08:19 | 4 |
| Opening Day was crowded, like the registry on the last day of truck
registration. I saw 4 small ones taken and one 8 lbs that was released.
The water is way down this year so spots that were productive in
earlier years might not be as good.

| What's this opening day stuff? I don't know what you're talking
about. Is there a closed season????? We fish all year here. Must
be tough waiting for one certain day to start fishing. You need
to talk to your conservation agents. On top of that, talk to someone
else and tell them "I'M TIRED OF SNOW!!!!!!!!" ;-)

659.8 | Some Things Never (sigh!) Change | BOSHOG::VARLEY | | Tue Apr 05 1988 12:32 | 31 |
| I missed Opening day (and the next few) for the first time, thanks
to a little "walking pneumonia" (or was it "the boogie woogie flu".
I live in West Boylston now, and haven't heard much, but the two
best places to go for info. are either The Outdoorsman" on rte 12,
or the bar at the AmVets (divide what you hear by 8, but there are
some guys there who really know that place).
Basically, you're fishing for a fish thst likes to suspend in deep
water most of the year (except nights, and the place is closed then).
That means that early Spring and late Fall is your only shot. I'll
bet most of 'em are around the old Nashua river channel, if there
are places you can reach it from shore.
I'm a lure chucker, so i don't have much chant at salmonids (they
don't hit like they do in Lake Ontario from the shore). If you really
want to catch fish, there's only one rigto use, and it means using
bait: use around 8lb running line, run it through a 1/2 oz egg sinker,
thru a small bead and tie it to a barrel swivel. Tie a 3' length
of 6lb leader to the other end and tie on a hook which is appropriate
to the size of your bait. Throw the thing as far as you can, set
the rod down with the bail open and a length of line directly from
the reel secured loosely !! under a small can with a few pebbles
in side. then read a porno mag (or whatever anyone who wants to "fish"
this way does for enjoys), and when you hear a rattle, close the
bail and set the hook.
I don't know why I bother with this place, except that it's pretty
and has huge trout. It's really a much better smallmouth and largemouth
place, but most guys don't fish for 'em ("if Roland Martin don't
walk, I don't walk...). Face it guys, the world has gone to Hell!
Even the good ole boys on t.v. don't chew anymore.

want some company...let me know.
I got three trout Sat...but they were all pinheads...could've used
them for bait at A1A (10" and under)
