656.0. "FIRST REAL DEC MASS/NH BASS TOURNAMENT FOR 1988" by HPSCAD::BPUISHYS (Bob Puishys) Thu Mar 31 1988 15:31

	First DEC MASS/NH BASS TOURNAMENT
        ---------------------------------

Send entry to 7835::BASS or Pushy::bass

Following are the Rules & Regs...

WHERE : Monomonac Lake, Rindge, NH (mass and nh boat rules are ok)
WHEN : Apr. 24, 1988, Sunday (RAIN OR SHINE!!)
WHO : Anyone is invited as long as one member of the team is a DEC
         employee.
TIME : 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM with no noon weigh- in
WHAT : 2 person TEAM event.
FEES : $20/team and $5/person for the Hawg Pool (optional)
LIMITS: 10 bass/team
SIZE : 12" minimum length, measure with pinched tail.

RULES:

1. HAVE FUN!

2. Violators of Rule #1 may be banned from all future events!

3. ONLY artificial lures allowed - NO live/dead bait allowed (excluding
     pork strips/frogs).

3. ONLY ONE line/person in the water at a time.

4. NO trolling.

5. "CATCH & RELEASE" policy in effect.

6. 50 Yard Rule - All boats must keep at least 50 yards distance from
     another boat's "territory." No crowding-in.

7. PAYOFFS! - There will be a 50%-30%-20% spit of the pool for 1st, 2nd,
and 3rd place teams. The Hawg Pool goes to the person weighing the
heaviest bass. In the event of a tie, winner will be determined by
     greatest length.

8. Starting time will be 7AM prompt from the marina. All powered boats
with motors > 5 HP will draw for starting positions. Canoes & boats
with < 5 HP will leave AFTER all powered boats depart to prevent
     potential swamping from their wakes.

9. Final weigh-in will be at 3:00 PM at the launch site for ALL. Given
that this event is an all-day affair, it should not be necessary to
grant additional time extensions for the smaller boats.

10. DEAD FISH AT WEIGH-IN - There will be an 0.50lbs penalty for any dead
fish. Also there will be a 1 lbs penalty for short fish.

11. See Rule #1!

What I tried to say was, If we don't get atleast 10-15 boats by
next week we will postpone this until the fair weather fisherman
(JOE T) can dig into their pockets..... This is the only time
I can run one of these in the spring. So it will be up to Joe or
Don if this one does not go....

Here is a question; Do you want to make it further south, since
only Mass people are in it so far?

Make it a little north ? Maine is nice this time of the year ? I
would be happy to help with a tournament in Maine if any one is
interested . There are many tournies here throughout the summer,
if any one is interested in coming north at all during the season
let me know and I can inform you of whats available (opens and club)
The opens here are generally very good with big bucks and merchandise
for prizes . The club I am in allows visitors to participate in
our club tournaments , we fish for $ not trophies . Just thought
that I would give a little info . maine really is Bassin heaven
all summer . If any one has any interest , get in touch .

Due to popular demand, Don Mac and "along for the ride" Brian will
be making an appearance. PJ Palmer (yes, he used to be known as R/O
Palmer) called me up yesterday afternoon, BEGGING me to go and show
him Rick Clunn's jerkbait technique, mumbling something about all
the perch he'll catch. He requested that he be referred to as PJ
Palmer now (for Perch Jerker) rather than R/O Palmer (for Read Only),
although he will still be keeping his read only status.

    Fine,
Now I don't where we are fishing! Quinsig is a 1/2 drive
for me and Monodnock is more like an hour and a half. Either way,
    I will be victorious!

Monomonac is about 1.5 hours drive for me as well! I'll go that far, but no
farther. I don't fish Mass enough to justify buying a license.

You guys decide...if you want the (in)FAMOUS HOLESHOT to be there, it's
gotta be Monomonac.

Of course...if you're all that afraid of being shown up by a NH boy, then go
ahead and have it in MASS!
656.26It takes a tough fisherman to fish a tough lake!COLORS::MACINTYREDon MacIntyreTue Apr 05 1988 17:438
I normally get a Mass license, and I've driven down for your tournies
before, but this time I'd pass on Mass.

Our ABC tourny season kicks off at Monomonac the following weekend,
so I was planning on practicing there that weekend anyway. I'll be at
Monomonac that weekend tourny or not...

having an open house that weekend and they feel that we won't conflict
with their plans sense we start at 7AM. They also said that if any
more bass clubs call up they will direct them else where due to
the fact that I was nice enough to notify them that we were coming.

I know lot's of others have given directions, but I want to stick in
my $.02.
	*	*	*	*	*	*	*	*	*

We are launching at VALLEY MARINE on Rt 202 in Rindge ,N.H. The ramp is
about 200 yds north of the Winchendon Ma. border. To get there from the
South I suggest you make your way to Rt 140 N from Rt 2 in Gardner. Rt 140 N
ends at Rt 12 in Winchendon. Take Rt 12 W into Winchendon center (shouldn't
be much traffic at 5:30 am on a Sunday). Take a right onto the main drag in
Winchendon center and at the other end of the main street there will be signs
off to the right to Rindge and Rt 202. Taking that right will bring you to a
'T' in Winchendon Springs a couple miles up facing the RAY PLASTICS factory.
Take a left and VALLEY MARINE will be on your right about three miles north of
the 'T'.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For more adventurous souls, between the Rt 140/ Rt 12 intersection and
Winchendon center there is a right you can take to Winchendon Springs ( I don't
remember if the sign at the intersection says anything about Rt 202 or Rindge,
or Winchendon Springs). From Rt 12 to your right you will see a small bridge
over a pond and a cemetary across the way. Taking that right and crossing the
bridge will bring you into Winchendon Springs about three miles up (if in doubt
keep left) and RAY PLASTICS will be on your right at the aforementioned 'T'.
This route saves about 3 or 4 miles. Continuing straight about three miles
will bring you to VALLEY MARINE.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At VALLEY MARINE, the ramp is 50 yds south of the show room down a gravel
embankment to the concrete pad at the lake edge. Parking is 100 yds south of
the ramp back in the bushes. Launch fee is $3.00.

I know many of you felt that there was little chance of winning when you
heard that the team of HoleShot and Fishin' Factory Fletcher were planning
to be there, so now I'll put a glimmer of hope back in your life.

I had promised my sons to take them salmon fishing on Winnie and they're
pushing me real hard to keep my promise, so I'm afraid I have to officially
withdraw from this competition to appease them. We'll be heading to Alton
on that Sunday to limit out on salmon.

Good luck to all....

First of all congrats to Don Mac-good show.

In addition to catching fish, I always consider it a great success
if you can learn something new also. This time I learned that the
combination of an ABU reel and a graphite SST rod actually floats...

Bob and R.O had a chuckle watching me cast a two fisted casting
rod while sitting in a canoe. That wasn't my biggest problem,
I had more trouble trying to figure out how to relieve myself, while
sitting in a canoe, wearing my brand new Roland Martin "rain
warrior" . This had to be done expertly to keep Ed from tipping
    the canoe, while laughing hysterically.

My thanks to Bob and R.O for handling the administrative tasks
    without flaws.

I am ready for the next one.

Well, I have to take a moment and apologize to the "real" fisherpersons
who braved the cold and rain to have, what turned out to be, a nice "catching"
day. I haven't been able to come out and play many times in the past, but
I was really looking forward to it on Sunday. I know you'll find this hard
to believe but.... On Friday night I tried to get the Back-DEC-Wimp ...
"Wizard"?????????? to go with me to get the boat, but he didn't like the
sound of the weather report. So....Saturday morning I tried to talk him
into going. He wanted to wait to the last possible minute on Saturday
evening, but the "Wimp"... er "Wizard" wouldn't budge from the TV watching
the fishing shows, which is where he gets all of his experience.
The only thing I can say is that the Texican was ready and willing
to sacrifice my health and family standing to sit in the cold driving rain
to pursue the higher pleasures of life. Unfortunately, I was teamed with
the "Back-DEC-Wimp" this time. OH, Well, good weather is coming and if
it doesn't rain, or blow, or cloud up, or get too hot, or get too cold,
maybe we'll get out there to see you next time.

This is bound to start some converstation from Bassin Bob as to WHO the
bigger wimp is...but here goes.

Hey, TBDW...at least I bowed out gracefully and entered an official
withdrawal, and at least I DID GO to Winnie with my sons, ages 10 and 12,
where we suffered through COLDER temps and driving rain.

In my book, if you claim to be a fisherman but let the weather dictate
whether or not you go...then THAT'S A WIMPY FISHERMAN!

Yes, folks...I've taken some flak and abuse from R/O, Bassin Bob and a few
others, but when a guy stands up his partner and WIMPS out cuz of a few rain
drops...

My vote for WIMP of the YEAR goes to THE BACK DECK WHIZZER!

SO HERE GOES.... WE DID NOT CAUGHT A KEEPER BASS ALL DAY...

We still had lots of fun, and the action was very hot and heavy
for all the pan fish and pickeral....

Anyone who did not show up is still a whimp and so don't shoot you
mouth off back at this. Sorry don we tried to help you, but you
    are still Don Fishless MAc..

That leaves R/O Palmer and Bassin' Bob Puishys still Champs!!

At last sundays Lashaway Tourney, BASSIN BOB.......said "I caught
10 bass...but they were all shorts"

Based on what we know now, does anyone believe it?

sounds like little bobby has boron type sensativity to this one.

Now really folks, My partner did win the tourney with some great
fish. and yes I spent a great deal of time netting his fish. I
am not using the net as an axcuse for getting skunked.

    I GOT SKUNKED

and yes I did get a backlash lash like you read about when I tried
to set the hook befor I locked the spool.

I would like to see something in writing from these alledged witnesses.

    :')

Congrats to DonMac on his win (they all look the same in the record
book); especially given his good humor on all the ribbing he's taken
    in the past.
Sorry the weather was so bad, guys ! I'm sure ole "lavender Jack
and I could arrange a Steelhead trip in Pulaski in February, if
you guys who "toughed it out" on those chilly old Bass boats would
like. Everyone knows that it's much warmer wading a river....
