    Hi Paul,
    
    I would recommend trying either the yellowfin or school blufin once 
    they show up nice and thick in August off of Block Island.  Or else
    you can try the marlin in the same general area.  There is a marlin
    tournament that is run by a shop near my boat in early July if your
    interested.  But at that time the fishing is 30-50 miles off of
    Cuttyhunk.  Later on toward the end of August, the same guy that
    runs the tournament claims that the marlin are within 5-10 miles
    of Marthas.  Give me a call if you want some numbers of areas that
    I had good luck with last year.  If I can scrape up the $$$ for
    the marlin tourney, I might head down for that.  If I do go and
    you want to enter, I'll be happy to go out as a pair of boats. 
    I'ld ask you to come as crew, but I think that I've already got
    someone.

    I've been to Pt. Judith a couple times but never took a close look
    at launch facilities ( was there before I owned a boat ).  The last
    time I was there, the seas were fearsome enough to sink a Whaler.
    
    I did scout a public launch in Narragansett (10 miles back up the
    road from Pt. J.) that looked real good and had the advantage of
    safer boating in the bay if conditions took a turn for the worse.
    Also had nice accomodations and a town beach nearby.  If I can locate
    a map, I'll draw up directions and mail to you.

    I have a boat that I keep in So. RI (Charlestown) where I have a
    Summer home.  My normal fishing grounds are around Block Island.
    If you are looking for something different I suggest the Yellow
    Fin Tuna run.  They show up in good numbers when they are in and
    they are great on the grill.  Yellow Fin are tricky to catch and
    it took a couple of years for my fishing partner and I to catch
    on.  Generally you have to anchor in deep water, 150-180 feet
    deep and chum.  I have not had any luck trolling, you either have
    to be very lucky or really know what you are doing.
    
    You mentioned Weakfish.  We have not had a good run of weak off
    Block Islan for the last few years.  Last year I saw one fish. 
    I don't know wht the problem is, hpoefully it is a cycle.
    
    There are many places to launch that are not too expensive, $10-$15
    and bait and tackle are easy to find.

      I am planning on trailering my 21 ft Chris down to point judith
    in august for yellow fin. I fished off there with joe last year
    a have a good feeling for how to catch them. There is a least one
    ramp at the end of the salt pond that looks like it would handle
    boats of our size. Bait is available on the water from around
    5:30 am. Mostly chum with frozen butterfish and standup tackle in
    the 50-80 class. Lets try to hook up for a run down there.

    I think that this might be a good place to write this. I was woundering
    if you had already bought Lobster traps and if you had not maybe
    we could get as many people together as might be interested and
    see if we could get a Quanity discount for a large purchace.
    
    What do you think? 
    
    Have you any price Quotes from places in new england? I have a trailer
    that we could pick them up in.
    
    I will be keeping the new boat at  City boat works marina in
    newburyport this year. and plan to fish lobster as well as dive

    I have not ordered the pots yet. I did send in my license application
    so I am somewhat committed (all fisherman should be committed according
    to their wives). I want to check the want adds a couple of times
    for used traps. One guy in burlington had some for $25 a piece that
    had been fished for about 2 months.
    
    Anyone else have an interest in buying pots?

I thought I had seen a price somewhere in here but can not recall 
so I called Cape Marine down the Cape.(actually around the corner 
from my house about a mile or so).
They are getting 29.75 for the wire pots, 2.10 for sticks 
(plastic) and 2.00 for floats. If these prices interest you
give me a holler.

    Do we have enough Yellow Fin "experts" out there to arrange a trip
    next August?  It would be fun to meet people that are only nodes
    on a wire.  Any takers?  Perhaps we can put together a pack of several
    boats.  Location can be important so we have to follow the action
    once it starts.

    I'ld love to bring my boat down there for a mass excursion.  But
    since I don't trailer, and it's now in Danvers, Ma, the $$ to get
    down and back might be too much for my accountant (read wife :-)).
    I'll probably just hitch a ride with CC.  I might be talked into
    taking mine down tho, if there were any othere people/boats running
    their boats down there for a weekend.  More boats making the drive
    gives me a better argument with my wife.

    Dezzi, I do believe that Walt or Norm (it's been so long since I've
    checked that note I forgot who set it up) has started organizing
    just such a trip.  I think it was more towards Martha's Vineyard
    than Point Judith.  
    
    Anybody else want to run there boats down from Cape Ann area to
    the Pt Jude area for a weekend of yellowfin?  Or anybody want to
    hitch a ride and help with $$.  I only burn 7gal/hr at 24kt cruise,
    and its about a 5 hr ride to pt Jude from Danvers.  Make for a nice
    weekend.  Paul, how 'bout trailing your boat to Danvers, and then
    we'll take'em both down by water ;-)!  By the way Paul, when do
    you start sharkin?  I'ld like to try again this year, but I don't
    know when the best time to start is up here.

    Joe,
    	Sharks seem to follow the same calendar as bluefish. When you
    hear that the bluefish are in, so are the sharks. Around here you
    can pick them up from late June till late September with mid July
    through late August being the best.
    	As far as the trips go, I think Norm was originaly planning his 
    trip as a one boat excursion early in the season. I signed up to go
    sans boat but from the response he got to his note he may need a whole
    fleet.

    As I said earlier, yellowfin off block in august is a must this
    year. Capt. Joe always has first rights as co pilot on the "Sweet

I plan to try and fish every Friday during the summer that's why 
I was looking for crew to help out with the expenses. I will this 
week update the list of people whom have expressed interest in 
going for a day. I was thinking of doing some shark fishing early 
in the season since the Yellow Fin do not come around too early.
I will probably start a new note called "Team Tuna" and this will 
tie it into tha past one .
I hope to uncover the 'ANZO' this coming weekend.

    Tuna it is, I just picked up a couple of pro-manta belts this weekend
    at zylas in merrimack. only $50. ea . tell em walt sent ya.
    
    This is the year for tuna, I just have that feeling. I'm ready for
    a flotilla to pt judith or werever they are. Just give me a call
    and I'll convince my wife that it would be good for me to get away
    to relax and the price they pay for tuna wouldn't hurt the argument
    one bit.
    
    Does anyone have info on what licences are needed, limits, ect..?

    In Mass (actually this is nationaly) you need a federal permit to take 
    Bluefin (free) and to sell any fish over 100lbs you need a commercial 
    license that is $100. from Mass div. of Marine Fisheries. 
         
    I have heard you need some sort of license in RI??

    In RI you have to have a Blue Fin license, that's a federal requirement
    since the catch is controlled.  Yellow Fin are open, to sell them
    all you have to do is carry them into the fish pier.  There are
    several marinas in Pt.Jude that specialize in Yellow Fin.  When
    the run is good they generally don't bring more than $1-$1.50 a
    pound so don't plan to retire on a trip.  Not bad to cover gas
    costs if you can get a couple of them.  Personally, anything I catch
    will NEVER make it past the freezer.

    How bout down in the Garden State? NJ.  Curious as to whether or not
    a license is needed down here.  I plan to do some Yellowfin fishin'
    and might decide to sell just a few to cover expenses, and dont
    wanna get locked up.  Well maybe a fine, not locked up.

    Vince, I asked around at JCAA last night, and the only Tuna License
    needed in NJ is the Federal Bluefin permit. 
    
    
    But don't hold me liable for this info.
    A call to Fish & Game could verify, especially if there are any
    regs regarding sale.
