| Bryan/College Station Tx is home of my Alma Mater Texas A&M. The
fishing can be great in Lake Somerville, Lake Conroe and yes even
the Brazos River! My brother has been fishing in north Texas for
about three to four weeks now and has yet to set any records. Caoght
a few small one though in the 1 to 2 lb. class.
One things for sure, if he's talked about the great Mexican (TexMex)
food and beer, there wasn't much time for fishin.... That food
will keep ya on shore most of the day!!!!!!

| All reports and suggestions to the contary that we didn't catch
any fish is completely WRONG......we killed them!!!!! Between the
four of us that were fishing we caught about 35-40 bass. Nothing
that would set a record, but good fish. The biggest was about 6+
and the smallest (I will admit to catching it) was about 1/2 lb.
My lure was almost as big as it was:^). The only problem we really
had was the wind....it was blowing between 10 and 30 miles an hour
most of the time. The mornings were the calmest, but come afternoon
it was whitecaps on the lake. We also had a cold front come through
and that made things harder.
Most of the fishing was done on Gibbons Creek and Lake Summerville.
For those of you that might be familar with the A1A site in Westboro
Gibbons Creek is 2700 arces of the same thing. Nothing but trees/stumps
as far as you can see. Bass heaven!! Lake Summerville is about 20,000
arces, but mostly open water. We hit the points in about 8-10 feet
of water and took most of the fish off the beds, or hanging around
getting ready. All the females had large egg sacs and the males
were all milting.
All in all, one great time, just like TBDW said.......I'd go back
in a flash.
Ranger Ron, (now with an even worse case of spring fever....:^)

And this time I may have a spare 1/2 day or so. Any tips
on some local (within hour or so around Dallas/F.Worth)
fishin holes that might be worth while this time of year.

| I just found this note and thought I wou drop e few words.
I just came to this part of the country, (JULY) and as a matter of
fact I came from Bryan/College Station.
Yes I'm an Aggie.
Fightin Texas Aggie Class of 89'.
I fished Gibbons a few times with good and bad luc The last time
was the summer before I came here when a buddy ofmine and myself
pulled his 12' Jon boat out of the back of the truck and dropped it
in the lake and within 30 mins my friend pulled out his 9 pounder.
What an experience. Of course being the environmentalist that he is,
he politely put it back for the next guy.
I've been keeping track of whats going on back home and found out th
If you want to catch a record maker, you should go to Lake Fork.
24 of the top 50 record bass caught in Texas came from there.
The top ten range from 16.0 to 17.10 with six of these coming from
Fork.
This info was acurate as of the first week of March this year.
Thats all for now.

I love a good Aggie joke.
Hey Bandit!...
I know what you mean. The Aggie football program seems to be slipping
a little since RC Slocam came aboard. He's a good man but doesn't seem
to be able to pull it together like good ole Jackie Sherril.
To bad he got caught doing what the others do so well.
And remember,
Tis better to have failed at Texas A&M, than to have graduated from tu.

631.16 | More on Lake Fork. | JETSAM::GABRIEL | | Wed Mar 28 1990 21:28 | 20 |
| I thought I would let you in on some info in an article from a
newspaper.
Typically March is the best month for Texas fish over 13 pounds and
there have been several already from Fork this year. A man from Plano
has caught the largest this year at 16 lb 12 ounces. Thats good enough
to rank number 6 in the record books.
Another interesting note on how healthy the bass are in Lake Fork.
Lake Fork has a slot limit, 15 to 21 inches. Several fishermen have
reported to have had to release fish under the 21 inch limit that
weighed over 9 pounds. Most people were skeptical until a 21&1/8-inch
fish weighed in at a hefty 10-2. This must have looked like a
basketball.
I'll tell what happens after I get back from my trip in May.
See ya,
Tex

| S-O-M-E-O-N-E down there in Dallas has a B-I-G M-O-U-T-H!
Yeah, I fished Lake Ray Roberts on Saturday (3-4 bass, none over 2 lbs) and
Lake Fork on Sunday. Weather was miserably H-O-T ... in the mid-90's and
humid. From what we could tell, no one was cathcing much of anything. The
game wardens checked us out on Saturday on Ray Roberts and said that very
few bass were being caught.
I don't suppose that B-I-G M-O-U-T-H from Dallas bothered to tell you about
the 12-15 lb. fish I DID catch, huh? We were out on Lake Lewisville on
Wednesday night and planning to do a little crappie fishing and then some
nighttime sailing. No crappies, but while vertical jigging in about 20-25'
of water, I hooked into something ... BIG! The drag started screaming as I
prayed the 8# test line would hold up. Finally...after about 5-7 minutes of
battling the brute in the dark, I managed to get it to the surface. It was
the biggest CATFISH I ever saw. Coonass tried to grab it with pliers (oops...
now you know who the Dallas B-I-G M-O-U-T-H is!) but the line then parted.
Length was about 30-32", so we guessed it to be about 12-15#.
Hey...TBDW...how come the only time you enter a note is to give someone a
bad time?? I'll remember that next February after the Centrum!!

631.23 | Lake Fork | BEVO::STIPPICK | Postcards from the edge | Mon Mar 18 1991 12:45 | 24 |
| Just got back from 2 days at Lake Fork. Skunked, skunked, skunked!
Actually, one of us caught 3, with one being a keeper at 6+ lbs. This
is a very big lake, and I suppose we just weren't in the right place at
the right time, we even had a guide on Sunday, still for naught. Water
was up to 60 degrees in the coves and small inlets, 55 or so in the
larger areas. The weather was cold, rainy, and windy Saturday, warm,
sunny, and windy Sunday. We saw a few bass nesting in the coves, but
they were disinterested. I suspect that the changing weather had them a
little spooked, and maybe they had moved back out to the points and
deeper water. Unfortunately, the guy driving the boat didn't think so
and we never tried anywhere but the coves. We fished Little Caney
Creek, and White Oak Branch North (6 pounder from White Oak, this is
the White Oak Branch just North of the 515 bridge since there are 2
White Oak Branches on the map. 2 of the 3 fish were caught on silver
broken-backed long A's, one on white and orange spinner bait. This was
my first trip to Fork and I will testify that it is really something
else, stickups everywher you turn and the fish were truly beautiful and
healthy looking. I live in Central Texas, Georgetown to be exact, just
outside of Austin. I fish Georgetown, Travis, and Fayette County fairly
regularly. I don't know if anyone else in here is from this part of the
country or fishes this part of the country, but if you are there let me
know.

I live in Houston and joined DEC August of last year. I do most of
my fishing in Conroe and Livingston, but I just bought a 350 Ranger in
Novemeber so I am looking forward to trying Fayette County, Gibbons
Creek, and all the other reputed "hot bass lakes" I can get to.
Have you fished Fayette County much this year? I've heard a few people
say that it's "pretty much died off....nothin' like it used to be".
