My vote is the San Carlos Resv. It's on the San Carlos indian Resv.
You are required to purchase a license from the tribe. It's not
very much $ Maybe 8 bucks or so. The ramps aren't maintained all
that well so be prepared. And when I say not maintained I aint
kiddin. Think about us tryin to launch a big Skeeter with a half
ton pickup. Don't forget the cab/over camper. The ramp is more
like a 45 degree incline covered in very loose rocks the size of
footballs. You pray alot....
That part of the country is some of the most spectacular scenery
you will ever see... Being from colorado you may want to argue that.
There are many very large lakes on the Salt River project that offer
good fishing. Lot's of skiers and high powered go fast types to
contend with, but as you pick water that is farther from phoenix,
the traffic seems to thin. Oh BTW the San Carlos isn't part of
the Salt riverr project.
I fished the San Carlos last year and between the two of us we caught
Probably 50 BASS from 1 1/2 # to 6 # in about 10 hours of fishin.
It was in the middle of the summer. Temp in Phoenix was about 105
degrees and up on the reservation it was perhaps 5 to 10 degrees
cooler. We started fishing around 6pm and fished till around two
am. (full moon, VERY BRIGHT) and quit around 2am. Slept in the camper
(generator with air conditioning) and fished for an hour or so the
next am. It got up around the 100 degree mark and we headed for
home
Those kind of impoundments make the 150 horse engines worth havin.
Let us know how it goes. I am planning a trip out there in Sept
to do it again.

| I'm not from phoenix but I lived there for a while . I did get a
chance to do some fishing when I was. The closest lake to phoenix
is lake pleasant . There is some decent bass fishing there but you
really need a boat from my experince . It is a large lake compared
to the lakes in Mass. There is some good crappie and white bass
from what Ive heard . There is also lake sauaro ?SP about an hour
or more east of phoenix that is supposed tobe good bassin water
but i never got a chance to fish it. I believe there is a few other
lakes with in an hour or more but there isnt a hell of a lot that
is less than an hour away . Also I might mention the canal systems
that run right though phoenix , I never fished these ethier but
I think there is supposed to be good catfishin in them.
Ill check some reading material i have from there and see if I
can come up with anything else .
When exactly are you going out there ? Im going out the 1st week
in May to vist my folks .
Hope I helped you a litle anyway .

| Well, today is the day. Leave after work for PNO. Start fishing
tomorrow. Contacts obtained from suggestions of people who read this
file have said that the Bass there are just starting to spawn. So,
sounds like fishing will be terrible!!! :-^)
Will post results here when I get back.
BTW: I hope the storm that left here yesterday misses you. I doubt
it, though. Anyway, it's a real DOOZY.
GONE FISHING!!!!!!!

| The fishing report is not fantastic but OK. The cold front
that went through before I got to Phoenix lowered the water temps.
about 3 degrees. This was enough to shut off the spawning run.
Still caught a few fish.
Most of the time was spent sightseeing around the Phoenix area
with my nephew. Thanks for all of the tips on fishing waters and
contacts.
Water temps. ranged between 62 to 64 degrees. They were up
to about 66 the week before. We went to Horseshoe reservoir on
Saturday evening. Got to the lake about 4 PM. By the time we had
unpacked and sorted out the equipment we wanted to use, it was about
5:30. Launched up the bank from the boat launch (IT WAS PACKED
WITH PEOPLE TRYING TO GET THEIR BOATS OUT!!!) Fished a small bay
for about 30 minutes. My son caught a Bass about 8" long and I
caught one about 6". Then we just toured around the rest of the
larger bay for about an hour. Should have stayed where we were.
Oh well, that's fishing.
Stayed at a cabin up in the hills with my nephew and a few friends.
Got started about 10:00 the next morning. Went to Bartlett Reservoir.
Missed one little bass. Quit fishing at noon so that we could go
to a Steak Cookout that evening.
Went to Lake Pleasant on Monday. Got there about 11:00. Fished
(or some form of resemblance thereof) until 3:00. Actually fell
asleep in the belly-boat for about half an hour. Fished some good
reed beds in one of the upper bays. My son caught one about 14"
on a crappie jig tube lure. Oh well, no-one ever said fish would
bite what they were supposed to. ;-) I hooked and landed one 6"
bass in one move. Figured fishing heavy cover with 6# line I had
better get them out quick. Fish ended up in my sons lap in his
belly-boat. Talk about waking someone up! He was almost asleep
at the time.
Lack of fish didn't ruin the trip. Just enjoyed being away
from work for a while. Now, I feel I can work on the yard and do
the necessary house work this weekend without as many complaints.
Make some peace around home before the fishing season really starts
here. I really hated the 50 degree nights and 90 degree days while
I was down there! :-^)
