| WE HAVE GONE TO LAKE POWELL MANY TIMES OVER THE PAST TEN YEARS IN
JUNE, JULY AND AUGUST AND SEPT. THE FISHING DEPENDS ON WHICH PART
OF THE LAKE YOU ARE GOING TO. (THERE IS OVER 2,000 MILES OF SHORE
LINE). WHICH MARINA ARE YOU PICKING YOUR BOAT UP FROM? IN APRIL
THE FISHING FOR STRIPERS WOULD BE BETTER UP NORTH. THERE IS ALSO
LOTS OF CATFISH (GO DEEP CAUSE THE WATER IS REAL COLD). ALSO AVAILABLE
ARE WALLEYE, (OFF ROCKY POINTS), LARGE MOUTH BASS (END OF CANYONS,
WEST CANYON IS GOOD BUT IS DOWN SOUTH), TROUT ARE REAL DEEP AND
BY THE DAM AND THEY HAVE QUIT STOCKING THEM, ANYWAY THERE ARE LOTS
OF DIFFERENT KINDS OF FISH TO CATCH THERE. HEAVY TACKLE, USE 15
POUND TEST AND UP. FOR STRIPERS USE WATER DOG BOMBERS, ANCHOVIES
CUT IN THIRDS, FISH ALONG ROCK WALLS OR SHEAR DROP OFFS ABOUT 40
FEET DOWN. CAN'T THINK OF MUCH MORE TO TELL YOU PLEASE REPLY WITH
QUESTIONS. WHERE ARE YOU FROM? LAKE POWELL IS ONE OF THE MOST
BEAUTIFUL PLACES IN THE WORLD, GREAT WEATHER, BEAUTIFUL WATER, (IT
WILL BE COLD IN APRIL) AND GREAT FISHING. WE ARE GOING THE END
OF JUNE THIS YEAR, OTHER THAN FIRST OF SEPT. END OF JUNE HAS TURNED
OUT TO BE THE BEST, ESPECIALLY FOR THE FISHING.

| We will be at Lake Powell 4/23 thru 4/30, flying from New Hampshire
to Las Vegas and driving to Page. From what I've read the daytime
temps should be in the 70's so after a New Hampshire winter that
doesn't seem cold. I've heard that winds can be pretty heavy that
time of year, any truth ? Our hope is that the lake will be pretty
empty of tourists at this time of year, is this a reasonable hope?

I agree that Lake Powell is one of the most beautifull places on
the face of the earth.
A quik story:
In 1972 I worked on a constuction crew that built the school in
Page. Each day after work several of us would buy a six pack,
cross the bridge and fish for BIG lake trout off the bank.
One Thursday afternoon one of the electricians came back to the
motel where we were staying with a HUGE brown trout. I don't
remember the weight I do remember that the fish was B I G ..
Anyway this guy says "It's a trophy!" Nobody could argue this
possibility. He then begins construction on the "cooler" that he's
gonnna keep this fish in until he can get it back to Phoenix Friday
after work. He buys five foam coolers and cuts them apart and
reasembles the pieces with duct tape to fashion a "cooler" of the
size and shape to keep and transport this fish. btw, this becomes
a project that everyone wants to get involved with. It turns out
that after several hours and several sixers, the "COOLER" is done.
Ole Larry Mckee packs this masterpiece into the back of his pickup
(the proudest guy you have ever seen)
Everonne agrees that this is a fine "COOLER" (and a great fish).
It's late now and we all retire to our respective motel rooms.
At 3:30am I am shaken out of my bed by the booming sound of large
caliber gun shots! ! ! ! ! ! I'm talkin BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM.....
My first thought was.........hit the dam deck.
After the initial shock I went outside to see Larry and several
of the others looking at a pile of foam beads, about three inches
of trout tail, one very large DEAD cat and several bullit holes in
two pickup trucks and one motor home.
Rumor has it that larry had the cat mounted with the trout tail
hangin out of his mouth.

| I fished the lake in a MAY '83. I averaged about 8 keepers each
day "bass". The largest was 9+ lbs. All were taken casting at the
shoreline, in about 4 to 10 feet deep water. Blue JELLY WORMS because
thats all that I had. Twitch-Crawl-------Stop------then repeat.
I seem to remember pulling alot of grass off of my worms. So it
might be worth looking for long slops in grassy shallows.
I caught a few very nice Catfish on frozen shrimp all after dark.
Due to lack of funds I was not able to fish for trout although alot
were taken trolling in deep water.
P.S. I do remember the locals saying "You should have been here
a few weeks ago"
The best of luck

| IF YOU ARE LEAVING FROM PAGE YOU WILL BE AT WAHEEP MARINA AND AT
THE SOUTHERN AND PRETIEST PART OF THE LAKE. THE AIR TEMP SHOULD
BE PLEASANT BUT THE WATER IS GOING TO BE COLD. WE HAVE NEVER GONE
IN APRIL BUT IN JUNE ONE YEAR THE WINDS WERE PRETTY STRONG, ESPECIALLY
AS THEY COME DOWN THRU ALL THE CANYONS. WE LITERALLY ALMOST KILLED
A MEMBER OF OUR GROUP TRYING TO PARASAIL. AND ON A DIFFERENT YEAR
IN THE LATE AFTERNOON OUR HOUSEBOATS WERE ANCHORED TO SHORE AND
A WIND STORM CAME DOWN THE CANYON AND MOVED BOTH HOUSEBOATS TO THE
END OF THE CANYON, UPROOTED THE ANCHORS AND SENT US TO THE END,
WHICH WAS QUIT A LONG WAY, WE DIDN'T HAVE MUCH TIME TO EVEN GET
CONTROL OF THE BOATS. ANYWAY, YOU SHOULD TRY TO GET YOUR HANDS
ON ONE OF THE LAKE MAPS, IT SHOWS ALL THE CANYONS, GOOD FISHING,
CAMPING ETC. LAST YEAR IN JUNE WE CAUGHT ABOUT 20 LARGE BASS IN
"WEST CANYON" WHICH IS DOWN SOUTH. ALSO CHECK OUT ANTELOPE ISLAND.
HAVE FUN, YOU'RE GOING TO LOVE IT.
