586.1Some Wallum FactsMOSAIC::BEAUDREAUMon Jan 25 1988 09:4334

Here's a little info on Wallum.

Public access is through Douglas State Park. Take RT 16 from Webster
then take a right onto RT 100 S. This intersection should be well
marked for the state park and Zamborano Hosp. The entrance to the
park is just up the road on the right. Use this access if your
going to fish the north end of the lake.

I use the south access, which is just a small dead end "state" road
leading to the water next to the hospital grounds. To get to the
hospital, go past the state park entrance and follow RT 100 for
about 3-4 miles. Parking is very limited at this access.

As for bait... Wallum is primmarily a trout lake with some large
4-10 lb landlocked salmon stocked last Nov. so use small to medium
size shiners and jigg with a swedish pimple or something with orange
color on it. The East side of the lake should provide the best
    results.

Depth ... Wallum is 30 ft deep on the average with the deepest hole
between 65 to 80 ft deep. This hole is located on the north end
of the lake about 1/4 mile south west from the Douglas Park boat
    launch.

Favorite spots...? Haven't done any ice fishing at Wallum in some
time. take your pick around from where the guy with the water plane
lives south to the Hospital off the east bank.

    Good luck!

I removed the original note, since it requested inputs for a trip
I've already completed. I don't believe in leaving 'dated' notes
in an active state. If more people followed this policy, the notes
files would be MUCH easier to view, (being less cluttered).

Other than the fact use guy's are slipping a bit...

Wallum is a fine lake in the summer for BASS fishing. My wife likes
this lake espicially because the bass like grubs. It's one of the
cleanest lakes around. The water is exceptionally clear!!. And the
BASS are the prettiest ones in the area. They are almost silver
white in color.(lg mouths that is).
I always noticed people with down riggers trolling away there.
In the summer, however, they don't let pleasure boats in till 9:00ish
You must be in line at 7:30 as there's a 30 boat limit. If you just
plan on fishing you can enter any time in the AM bust must be off
the lake by 10:00 to make room for the folks(like me) waiting in
    line.

    Hey guys,

The time limits for fishing/pleasure boating generally apply to
summer months when all the maniac with power boats are ripping
up the lake. Wallum Lake is well managed for them to post the
launch area off limits to power-boaters till 9AM. At least it
gives the fishermen three hours of peace and quiet.

But this time of year the only people on the lake are fisherman
    enjoying this great RI resource.

Was a pretty nice day at Wallum. We didn't end up with any Salmon
but the Harbormaster and I did pickup 6 tastey trout. 5 Browns
(2 tagged) and a nice ~14" Rainbow. Phil Wells and partner picked up
a Rainbow larger than mine. Bassmaster Dave Sullivan and partner said
they picked up one small one that they released. Turned out that TBDW
talked Ranger Ron (and someone else?) into showing up also, but last

Oh well, I finished the season up here just like I started it.....
    cold and fishless.

Now I have to go down to Fla. and do some fishing on the Big O.
That is the way to really end a fishing season...;^) I leave on
friday and will be down there for seven glorious days.......sorry
about that fellows....:^) I'll be storing the boat down there at
my house and going back this coming spring to pick it and start
the season right. This year our annual spring trip will be to Fla
and parts. We may even stop somewhere on the way back. At least
my boat will be warm this year, even if I won't be......

Remember, come spring anyone that wants to join us on this outing,
around the end of March, is welcome to come. We tryed last year
but ended up going to the Texican's home and freezing there, so
this year I have them talked into Fla. At least it will be warm..
