514.0. "Good Salt Water in R.I. ??" by LANDO::MOTT (Peter Mott, LANDO::MOTT, BXB2-2/G06) Tue Oct 20 1987 14:05

    I am going fishing in Rhode Island this weekend with my father, who is
    an old salt when it comes to salt water fishing from the beach or small
    boats. Neither of us knows the Rhode Island fishing scene much at all,
    although we are familiar with the geography. Can anyone suggest a good
    shore location and describe how to get there. We will be starting in
    the vicinity of Providence.

    Peter,

    Read note 16.0 - .8 in UCOUNT::RHODE_ISLAND notes file. It gives
    a few good spots to target, but when you get there ask the locals
    at the bait shops for advice. One goodthing about RI, its so small
    that you can cover a lot of different fishing spots in a day till
    you find where there hitting. Also look back in some of the earlier
    topics of this file, I seem to recall something was mentioned before...
    sorry I can't offer more

    Have fun in RI

514.2Misquamicut Beach areaHEFTY::CUZZONESI can turn this thing on a diiiiiiiiiiiiiiTue Oct 20 1987 16:3413

    I can suggest one spot....Misquamicut state beach off rte 1 in
    Westerly. There is a tidal river just up the road where snapper
    blues are caught on the incoming tide (an hour before high tide
    to an hour after). At the mouth of the river is a jetty you can
    walk out. I have seen flounder caught in the surf off the jetty.
    To the east are both East beach and West beach. At West beach you
    can launch a boat (not sure how big if there's a limit), at East
    beach you can surfcast.

    Good Luck,

    Steve - Springfield in Western Mass.
514.3Some help....TOOK::SWEETMon Oct 26 1987 09:129
    I have not fished the RI coast much but I have heard the area around
    the point judith light is supposed to be hot with blues and stripers
    this time of year. You should try to contact a local bait shop in
    that area, there are several around the salt pond which is the innlet
    at point judith. I have talked with some one at kenport marina and
    he was helpful about the offshore fishing, it might be a place to
    start.

514.4Pt. Judith Launching Ramp?CTOAVX::EGANTue Jun 28 1988 16:125
Does anyone know of any good launching ramps in the Pt. Judith area?
    I plan on fishing the sharks ledge area and would rather trailer
    part way. Thanx.

    Rick,

      I know there is one at the end of the salt pond just off rt 1
    but can't give specific directions. Also Kenport Marina has a ramp
    but they charge a healthy fee and give preference to there own
    customers. I plan to trailer down that way in august for yellowfin
    so any info you come up with please pass along to me.
