496.0. "The Fair Weather Tourney" by CGVAX2::HAGERTY (Jack Hagerty KI1X) Mon Oct 05 1987 11:50

This is the "Official" note for the DECbass Tourney to be held at
    Massabesic on October 17th.

Unless otherwise changed via this note(s) the rules spelled out
by Joe T. on Note 477.0 will also hold true for this event (!!)
    as well.

    Changes to 477.0
    Where: Massabesic Lake, Auburn, NH.
When: October 17, 1987 Saturday. (weather permitting - I promised)
Time: 7:00 Am to 1:00 PM.

    Rule changes;
    5. Weigh-in will be at 1:00 PM.
    7. Unless we have another donation, skip the door-prize.
    8. Because of the way this launch is set up, we will have a "shotgun"
start at the front of the launching area. (About 50 Yds into deeper
water - NO LEGEND I wont bring a shotgun again..)

Looks like its going to be a real quiet tourney. With the weather
beginning to change into Indian summer, it could be the nicest days
    of fall..

OK who even thinks they can make it that has not already said so..

496.1In search of (good) comments?!?!?!?CGVAX2::HAGERTYJack Hagerty KI1XMon Oct 05 1987 12:0811
Need your inputs on the two questions put forth in earlier notes.
    (In 477.XX)
    1. How does some side competition sound? Taking the losers lures
may not interest the winners!!! But then I do like the idea. Maybe
Ill stash all the good ones on an island before I come in... Draw
1 boat against another??? (More than one contest going on. Ill get
Coots my tourney "partner" to handle this if wanted..)
    2. Does a one man boat go head to head against two in a boat or
do we adjust the formula for them. (We may have two GOOD 1 man boats
    out there...)

496.2FEISTY::TOMASJoeWed Oct 07 1987 09:2514
So who's gonna fish this event??

R/O and I are planning to clean some clocks! Is everyone afraid of getting
a little cold?? What a bunch of WIMPS!!

With winter just around the corner (aaarrrrgghh!!), this could very well be
your LAST CHANCE to enjoy some fall bassin! The Farmer's Almanac is
predicting a looooong, cooooold winter, so let's get out there for one more
friendly competition.

I'm also up for some sideline bets like winners picking out tackle from the
losers tackle box. I need to restock my boxes!

Clean our clocks?? Well well. Just because you threw your old partner
overboard and picked up one of the winners from the last tourney.
Your also beginning to sound like the "legend". Remember, and Ive
said this many times, the number of fish you catch are in direct
proportion to the number of notes you write.

Who I got so far - dont know if correct please let me know if I missed
    you..

    Jack,
    Count me in!!!
After my disaster last weekend at Squam, I went and purchased a
new boat. This event seems like a good place to try it out. I will
    bring my partner (non-dec).
Where is the boat ramp at Masabesic?

    Bob (always dreading ice-in)

Hey, Jack, I just realized something. You've got this note titled
"The Fair Weather Tourney." Does that mean you're going to "WIMP OUT"
if it's raining (or snowing, ugh!). Where's your spirit?? Or did it
get washed away at Monomonac?

R/O and I'll be there come rain, sleet, snow or whatever! Right Rick?

Rick?? Ahhh....Rickie....say somethin'!

Well.... I'LL BE THERE ANYWAY!

Ive got call waiting - so to be brief

Re: 4. Great Bob - Glad to hear your good news. Will make sure
you keep the dings out for the first outing. Wasnt sunday of this
week the pits. The ramp is; south off 101 on Rt 28 to the rotary.
    This is about 300 yards. Go all away around and take this rout{
    - is it 123??? - east for about 2 - 3 miles. Think its shorter
anyway when you come to a parking lot between the road and lake
your there. Its real easy to find. I even did it once. Ill get more

specific on monday when Im back in by office and call waiting wont
make me drop the line. Ive lost it once already..
Coots and I are going as long as it does not have small craft warnings
out. But I did promise we would call off if the weather was too
bad. Did you fish today Joe??

Looks like we will have more than enough to make the morning
interesting. ANYONE see the worm lesson on Channel 11 this AM. Ill
let you borrow the tape after the tourney, and my partner has
    seen...

    RE:6 That's RT 121A not "123???". I thought I'd straighten that
out, I wouldn't want anyone to get lost and not get there. I need
all the winning money I can get!!! YUK, YUK. The weather is looks
good so far, hoping for a good turn-out.

Hey Everybody, I still have some questions and some suggestions...

    1.	How's about if the weather is good we go to 3pm?
    2. What's the decision on the entry fee for one man in a boat?
    3. How many entrees so far?
    4. What's the pay-off percentages? (I want to start looking in
Bass Pro's catalog to see what I can spend my winnin's on)

    					Jim

496.11Are you ready yet???CGVAX2::HAGERTYJack Hagerty KI1XWed Oct 14 1987 16:3053
Boy its quiet... I cant understand it. The weather man has been
promising better weather the closer it gets to saturday.

Jim M. re .10 We have to keep it to the 1PM stop time. Id still
like to fish if the weather is nice, but ..... we promised and alot
of people signed up with that in mind. Will keep it to the original
time. If you dont have to leave, yo can always go back out if
    the weather is that nice.

Now lets see. The "legend" is hunting in Colorado. Bet he wont
be able to go back. He is hunting Coots. 15 points for a Coot.
Who the hell sold him a gun????? Hey partner are they your relatives??
Legend in the words of the old "Skoal Bandit" fisherman (a Mr Varley)
    the difference between hunting and fishing;

"When you throw them back they just dont act the same."

Entrees. we have about 6-7 boats. Just have not had the time to
count and send a message. I will, I will.

Tom my partner, the new R/O Coots for this tourney anyway, the one
who said, "Yea we'll do the next one." Will be charged with the
job of "local CPA" and on the spot, new and different contests.
We still need to work "Choice the best lure out of the box" contest.

Jim, to answer your other question - since the "pot" is got to be
split by "the boat" the past rules apply - you pay $20 bucks a boat.
Otherwise a different method of dividing the lot is needed.
Im gonna get up too, too, early for that kind of stuff.

You know, if some of you guys want to fish single, borrow Joes,
is it Joes, "love" doll and dress her up for the front seat. That
way you could probably sneak two lines in anyway. Might even let
her catch some fish. what do you say Joe??

    I also promised better directions. maybe not better, but longer;
Take Route 93 (either from the north or south) and take 101 east
to Route 28. (Thats the first exit - less than 5 minutes from 93
to be able to see the lake..) Follow 28 south about 300 yards to
the rotary. Take route 121 east for about 3 miles to the parking
lot between the lake/ramp. Thats all the way around to the left.
Look for a bunch of guys running and jumping around..

BRING BOOTS SO YOU DONT HAVE TO GET INTO THE WATER. Its against
the law to place any part of your body in it. Any part. You can
put your boat, oar, wash all your lures, your Seagulls from the
dump can come on down - but not one part of your body. Be careful
they watch.. On the other hand if you want a place to fish w/o a
lot of skiers trying to see how close they can come to your boat
    - this is the place.

Legend; no shotguns.... no live bait....

496.12FEISTY::TOMASJoeThu Oct 15 1987 17:159
Hey, Jim....getting kinda cocky, ain'tcha?? So you're gonna fish alone and
take on 2-man teams, huh? BOY...are you in for a lickin!!

Hey, Jack...have you decided what the split is, or is it WINNER TAKE ALL??

BTW...do you need me to bring my scale?

-HSJoe-

496.13C'mon sun....CGVAX2::HAGERTYJack Hagerty KI1XThu Oct 15 1987 17:5933
Yup that would be great. I said the rules would be the same at as
stated by you in the last one. Saves me time and having to rethink.
No need to do that. Those worked great. Im just worried that we
wont have to split it with anybody since I wrote my note even my
partner has asked for relief from the thing. He has car trouble
and visiters from the south. (Massholes coming.)

** Again if you want complete copy of RULES read JOES note 477.0..**

Will use your payoffs. (Hope we have 3 boats with fish.)
Im still going even w/o Coots. I just need to see who wants to win
this thing. Coots will go if I fail at that.

DONmac - you still cant go?? Too bad we need your cash.

you have been quiet. You sick?

One other thing on this lake. We will start, all at once, from in
front of the ramp. About 50 yards out. No need to draw starting
positions. everyone OK with that?? Anyone not??

I promised you good weather. Im not sure if I even remember how
to fish in good weather anymore.

We made a pact not to tell. You should have been there.
This had to be the best day of the year. Even tho I got skunked,
we had perfect weather - about 65 degrees, sun came out about 10:00
AM and we had no, repeat no wind until about 12:30. And then it
just made a ripple onthe water. The biggest fish was 3 1/2, Ill
    tell you that much.
You will have to find out who went and ask them.
    Sorry, but pacts is pacts.

    				Jim
496.28The RESULTS are inHELIX::COTHRANWed Oct 21 1987 13:3544
	Okay, I got the story.

Jack admits to being skunked. One 3 1/2 pounder was caught,
by, YOU GUESSED IT Holeshot. But, this fish caught Holeshot
by surprise, and before he knew it the fish had taken 3/4 of
the line off his reel. The fish tangled with R/O/s line and
subsequently snagged itself on his crankbait. The two of them
started to fight over this fish, and before either of them
knew it, both where in the drink and their rods gonso.

Here comes Jim and Jack now, their trolling, in more ways than
one. Jim latches on to a monsta fish, only to find his worm
(which one), hooked onto R/O's reel. By this time Holeshot and R/O
where back in their boat and beside Jim and Jack in theirs,
(Jack's still trolling, but the boat ain't movin). R/O grabs his rod
and begins to help Jim reel in. Holeshots rod comes out the water and
he too begins to assist with the retrieve.

	The results are in:

Holeshot, Jim, and R/O share the prize money for biggest fish
and most weight at the end of the day.

Now you know why no one wants to talk about it.

The other reason is that rumor has it that the Legend and Don
Mac in fact teamed up the afternoon and evening previous (oct 16) in
an effort to get to know each others better fishing qualities.
This way when they team up in competition, they'll complement each
other to the hilt. Anyway, they convinced Bassin Bob to join them
which he did, and he got in some good basic practicing prior
to taken all the fish he caught out of Massabesic down to the TOC the
next day. Bassin Bob however made only one error, he neglected to
take with him the 6 3/4 pounder the legend nailed that night on a
rebel. Bassin Bob also miss calculated his catch on the Cape which
resulted in is adequit but respectable showin at the TOC. This also
explains why there was only ONE FISH CAUGHT in Massabesic on the 17th,
The legend, Don Mac, and Bassin Bob did a number on them the afternoon
	and night previous.

Bryan (who doesn't make it up to MK often, but when he does
	       it pays off)
