495.0. "Boat Rentals on Winni" by DSSDEV::WEBB () Mon Oct 05 1987 11:13

    A buddy and I wanted to do some fishing this next weekend, but we're
    both new here (from Florida). We were looking for somewhere to
    rent a boat or canoe (cheap), get out where the big ones are, and
    bend a few rods. I was thinking about Lake Winnepasakee (I'm in
    Southern New Hampshire).

    Can anyone suggest a good fish camp with rentals?

    I know something about bass and I've got the tackle for 'em, but
    I'd really like a shot at some trout. Suggestions?

    Thanks.

    From what i here ,lake winni is under harvested for both small mouth
    and large mouth bass. most people fish for salmon and lakers, so
    i would put my time in for the bass before it gets to cold up there.

    can't help you on where to go ,your best bet would be to ask the
    local tackle shop on where you can rent and where the best bass
    fishing is because this is a big lake and could take you all year
    to find the bass.

    let us know how it goes.

495.2VIKING::MACINTYREIn search of the Largemouth Bass...Tue Oct 06 1987 13:0519
    Unless your already familiar with Winnepsaukee (which you already
    said you were not), I'd pass on the idea of renting a canoe up
    there... A canoe might be ok in a cove on a quiet day, but that's
    about it (in my book anyway)... I have a small 14ft aluminum V
    and I get bounced around like crazy up there, and get pretty wet
    while I'm crossing big water (I don't have much freeboard).

    This time of year I think I'd want at least a big (wide and deep)
    14ft V up there...

    Also, to nit pic abit, I wouldn't say that Winni is "under harvested"
    (just hate the sound of that, it might encourage "harvesting")...

    I *would* say that the bass fishing is good. Due to the fact that
    (as .-1 just said) most of the fishermen up there are fishing for
    trout and salmon - and therefore there is not *too* much pressure
    on the bass...

    Your sad story sounds much like mine. I am a transplant from NJ
    and sold my boat before the relo. This is no place to try and rent
    as the one place I did find was way out of line. If yu have interest
    in sharing the cost of a boat for next season, I am interested.
    I worked a deal like this with two others in NJ and it worked out
    fine. You not only have a ready fishin buddy but the costs of wonership
    and maint. are put into proper perspective. Then there is lots left
    over for new tackle and a few six packs. Let me know if you are
    interested. I also live in Merrimack and know something about Bass.

495.4Conclusion to the TaleDSSDEV::WEBBMon Oct 12 1987 16:429
    re: 495.3 Sounds interesting I'll get in touch.

    re: 495.0 The conclusion to the tale: My "buddy" whimped out on
    me, but I went fishing anyway. Not to Minni. but to a closer lake
    -- Pawtucknee (sp?). I fished from shore and did OK using black
    worms with twister tails either trailing them across the tops of
    weed beds or letting them sink just off the edge of the beds. I
    caught several pickeral and largemouths (all around a pound). Not
    a great fish tale, but I had some fun.

       INFORMATION PLEASE...

              I am heading up to Winni for a week in July and would
    like to rent a boat for a day or two. I am staying on Long Island
    I understand that there is a marina right at the bridge to L.I.
    does anyone know the name of this marina? Would appreciate the
    info if you have it.

    Thanks in advance

495.8Winnepesaukee -> boat rentals?VENOM::DLUGOSZThe past is but the beginning of a beginningSun Jul 09 1989 22:2814
    Hi,

    I'm new to the NH area and would like to try fishing up in
    Winnepesaukee. Does anybody know of anyplace that rents boats
    rigged for fishing (trolling moters, etc) in that area? I don't
    own my own yet (my '85 Dodge gocart would probably die trying to
    pull one anyway!).

    Also whats hot up there this time of the year? I'm trying to get
    back into fishing after a ten year lapse so any helpful advice
    would be greatly appreciated.

    Ron, I can't help ya on the rentals, try the placed mentioned earlier
    in this topic. Also, check out the other winni notes (555.999 will get
    them for ya). The smallmouth fishing should still be pretty good up
    there. Try around the islands. don mac
495.10Bass fishing has slowed at WinniTWIRL::EPRESTONThu Jul 13 1989 12:4315
    Call Paugus Bay Sporting Goods in Laconia. If they can't help you,
    I don't know who can.

    I was up there over the week of July 4, and caught a few decent
    smallies, but they're not exactly jumping at the lures. I got a
    lot of attention with a natural colored rubber worm off a dock during
    a very windy and rough part of the day last Sunday, but they didn't
    bite (I could see 'em).

    I had most of my success with a rebel wee crawfish and a Bomber
    Long A, gold color (hear that, John?!)

    Good luck,

495.11Jon Boat on WinniPACKER::BACZKOGone Fishin'Wed Jul 19 1989 16:5413
    Well I headed up to Winni this weekend for a week of fishing and
    beer. I am going to stay up by the islands and try my had at some
    of those 4 lb smallies I keep hearing about. I cant find anyone
    who rents fishing boats so I am going to bring my Jon boat with
    small motor on it, Do you think I am crazy?? Since it is far from
    the Wiers area do you think the traffic will be minimum and semi
    safe for this kind of boat. I would appriciate some inputs here.

    Hey Don Mac or HSJ lets go fishing next week bring your boat, Steak
    and beer is on me.

495.12go for it!!BAUCIS::VACHONWed Jul 19 1989 17:557
     I've seen canoes in the lake!! I would imagine if you stay close
    to the shore you wont have any problems but if you decide to try
    to go a great distance I wouldn't recomend it. But if you are up
    there for the entire week then just avoid the weekends!

     Les, I saw a fishing show on Winni filmed in august, and all they
    were doing was fishin' Zara Spooks and Crazy crawlers around the
    boat markers (rock piles are underneath the markers). They KILLED
    'em!
