485.0. "Conn Lakes Trip Report" by MOSAIC::MACINTYRE (In search of the Largemouth Bass...) Mon Sep 28 1987 14:08

We had a really great time on our Conn lakes trip. The score was pretty
even on Thursday. On Friday my partner Mike and I did much better than
Keith and his partner, Dave. However on Saturday, Keith and Dave came
back and cleaned our clocks. We didn't do much at all on Sunday, getting
ready to leave and all... I think what helped Mike and I out on Friday
was those two 24 hands I got. And Keith and Dave pegged like crazy on
Saturday. Yeap, cribbage is a heck of alot of fun.

Oh, I almost forgot, we did some fishing too - despite the weather. Keith
had told me that the weather was pretty wild up there. When he told me
to bring all the winter clothes that I had, I though he was exaggerating.
He wasn't.

Snow, sleet, rain, wind, lightning, sun - you name it, we had it. I think
the sleet and wind were most common. Each morning there was 1/4 inch of ice
on our boats. Keith actually had to use hot water to thaw his rods out of
his frozen rod locker one morning. The sun was out once or twice...

Out of the four of us, Keith was the only one to come home with fish, he
caught 2 keeper salmon - one the morning before Mike and I got there, and
then one Saturday afternoon I think. The rest of us caught all shorts, (just
one short for me). I also picked up one brookie on a spinner in a
remote little pond - just before we were informed that it was a fly fishing
only. We had left out flyrods back at the cabin, cuz it was so windy - but
that was just as well, as soon as the canoe touched shore, the blizzard
started.

Anyway, we managed to have a real good time nonetheless. Personally, I kinda
liked the drinking and playing cards better than the trolling for salmon.
Sitting in a little boat in sleet/rain/wind/snow for 4 hours isn't EXACTLY
on the top of my "favorite things to do" list.

Keith and Dave can add some more details...

Oh yea, we saw a bunch of moose - one good sized bull with a rack and a
half... what a sight...
