483.0. "Looking for a trailer" by SOFBAS::PALUSES () Fri Sep 25 1987 11:04

Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can get a good deal
on a 14 foot galvanized trailer ? (Central Mass. area) For a decent
price I'd even be willing to drive some.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I'd like to ask for help also.

I'm looking for a very lightweight trailer for the CRAWDAD.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

They have those little jobs that are not galvinized. There called
a utility trailers, but they have a option you can buy to adapt
the trailer to be used for boats. I think places like The Fair,
K mart carry them. I forget the price but it should be < $200.
The other way is to get your yellow pages out and start calling.

I just bought a 14' package. In calling different dealers trying
to wheel and deal I do remember some of the trailer prices. A
Calkin trailer was $ 368 and I believe so was the Cox, the
Shorelander was $ 343. The main difference in the first 2 compared
to the third was they had a heavier axle and were more stable.

                                                   Hope this helped,

TBDW, Calkins offers a small trailer that may consider. It's the Z trailer
and it's made for small boats (14ft max). It's $299 and you have to put it
together yourself (couple of hours). I bought one for Ol' Stump Jumpa after
it started taking me a half hour to set it up with all of the accesories that
I had piled in there. Ol' Stump Jumpa is just a memory now, but I'm still
using that trailer to haul my 14ft V - my only complaint is that I wish it
was a little longer, so I could slide the boat back more and be able to drop
my tailgate on the truck... Don Mac

I mailed that to tbdw earlier, I forgot to mention that it's full
    galvenized, wheels and all

Thanks for the info.... So far in my search I've found out that
Sears sells a galvenized trailer/kit with some assembly required,
that will hold boats up to 14 ft, for $399.99. (it's thru their
catalog so you hafta pay another $60.00 or so shipping).

Also Doug Russel in Shrewsbury will sell an already assembled
    galvanized trailer for $499.00.

Where did you price that Z trailer ? it sounds pretty good.

I got my Calkins Z trailer at Green's Marine in Hooksett NH, but
I'd imagine that any Calkins dealer could get you one - for a similar
    price... Don Mac

There is a trailer dealer about 2 miles south of Oxford center
on route 12 that has just about anything to do with boat tralers.
From what I've seen, they could assemble about any concoction
    you can dream up

Maybe I'll give the guy in Oxford a try, I'm only 5 miles from
Oxford center so he's worth a shot.

                                   Thanks
