Carp used (might still be) considered a delicacy in China. They
breed 'em on purpose over there.
The reason the carp has a bad rep in the US is because it can survive
in low oxygen atrophied bodies of water which tend to be the most
polluted.

We've got lotsa carp here in the Kennebec R. in Augusta...I don't
think anyone fishes for 'em though...not on purpose...I read that
they were brought over from Europe in the 1800's and stocked in
15 of the 16 counties in Maine...they only caught on good in the
Kennebec...must have been a food fish in the old country ? They
