468.1 | I'LL BE OVER TO SEE YA WITH A 2X4!! | VENOM::WATERS | The Legend of the Lakes | Fri Sep 04 1987 12:56 | 27 |
| Well Mr. Beaudreau, I've never fished down there but I do have
some Recommendations for you....
(1) You have to be out of your mind to get married!
DON'T DO IT!
(2) Let me have your future wife's ticket and I'll
go with you. We can learn to fish the Island
together..And GO HUNTING AT NIGHT..IF YOU GET
MY DRIFT.
(3) If you have to get married......You tell HER
Shes got one day to spend with you and then
you'll be fishing the rest of the time.
(4) THIS IS THE MOST INPORTANT....PAY CLOSE ATTENTION!
The morning after you wedding, roll over and
rap her right in the chops....When she asks,
"What was that for?" You reply," Thats just
incase you think of doing something wrong!!"
Repeat this procedure every morning for the
rest of your life!! I KNOW, I'VE BEEN MISERABLY
MMM..AAAAARRRIED FOR ..TTWWWEELLVVE YYYEEAARRS
AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| Well, it's been over a year sonce I've returned from my own
"honeymoon hawg'n" trip, I hope you have as good of a time as we
did...
Personally, I'd toss The Leper's advice down the toilet and stick
with the advice that Ron gave me before my trip...
From note 98.1
>> Keep those priorities straight and you'll have a fishing buddy for
>> life..............Even if she doesn't go with you.
It works for me.

RE: .1
I knew I was setting myself up for a DON'T DO IT reply. Thanks
for the advice. She has accepted the fact that I have a bad
case of fishin' fever, and that I get more thrills out of landing
a big bass than havin sex. She's a good sport though, and she did
come in handy once when I hooked into a 7 lb. Pike while fishin off
my dock and had to yell "Beth, GET THE F*CKIN' NET". She came runnin
out and scrambled to get the net to me in time to land the beast.
She likes the ocean, but I'm like a fish out of water when I'm not
at my lake.
I tried to cancel the honeymoon so I could be at the DEC MA/NH Bass
tourny, but that didn't go over too well. Maybe next year.
Maybe after the wedding, I'll invite you over for some fishin after
work. Pascoag ain't that far out of the way on your way home to
Brockton. And bring that 2x4.

| < What do you recommend? Should I go for a deep sea charter for
< a big one, fish from the beach with light tackle, rent a small
< boat, or .... ?
I can't speak for Bermuda, but last year in the Islamorada (in the
Keys) I rented a small boat for 1/2 day and my wife and I went fishing around
the Mangroves and coral using light tackle. We didn't have to go far to be
more or less by ourselves. I did most of the fishing and she did most of the
relaxing in the sun. In other words if you leave her behind on the beach
she'll sit out in the sun without you, if you take her with you she can sit out
in the sun with you. Who knows, you might require a break from fishing in the
middle of the day and it sure would be a shame to be all by yourself if that
happened.
Congratulations. Don't let her feel neglected because you went fishing.
She can make or break your fishing enjoyment. It's no fun being out there all
day knowing that you're going to hear for the next week how selfish you were.
It's also no fun looking through the Pro Shops catalog if she doesn't understand
why you just can't live without this new crankbait; after all you've already got
16 of them in that smelly old tacklebox.
Good Luck,
Al

| Beth, huh?
Hmmmmm.....I wonder if it's the same girl that I once.....ahhhh....never mind.
...only kidding!
Congratulations and Good Luck with your marriage! I've been married for 18
looooooong years, happily (mostly), I'll add, although my wife still doesn't
understand or appreciate my NEED to go fishing. Yes, she's starting to come
around, v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y, so one of these days I'll be able to say...
"Hey, Honey....do you mind if I get out and do some fishin tonight?"
To which she'll reply, "Sure, I don't mind." And say it without grumbling
or pulling a face!
Oh well....only time will tell!

| Guess I'm the only lucky guy in this file....
I'm not married yet,but when I do it will be to the gal I've been
seeing for the past two years.
She started fishing with me this year...She's always buying the
rubber worms, and lures...Even talked me into getting a canoe to
get out to "those lilly's over there..." She cant get enough of
fishing... This weekend is going to be fishing for 3 days for us...
Maybe not Bermuda....but the local pond will do just fine....
We haven't had great luck this year, but I hope she lands a nice
bass before it's over....
I get a real kick out of it when she tosses in the earth worm for
some massive kiver action....then she goes around telling everyone...
"Jeff got skunked!!!!!,but I caught 22!!!!!!!"
Congrats Gary...

468.7 | Honeymoon Fishing Hawaii | GENRAL::HUNTER | from SUNNY Colorado, Wayne | Fri Sep 04 1987 16:16 | 28 |
| Well, all I can say is WHY??????????????????????????????????????
Anyway, congratulations and GOOD LUCK. You'll need it (for both
activities!). When you're out in the boat and hook into the big
one with 40# test line, casually hand your new wife the rod and
let her go water skiing behind the fish. She can have sun, recreation,
and go fishing all at the same time. Besides, if she finds out
she doesn't like fishing at this early stage, it's cheaper since
you don't have to buy her fishing equipment too.
Really, I'm just kidding. I've been married for over 11 years now.
Most of them have been very happy. Also, if you have a boy, you
will be able to grow your own fishing partner. I fished Hawaii
when we were on our honeymoon. I did both the charter and shore
fishing. Shore fishing was MUCH MORE FUN. Especially on a secluded
beach somewhere. Try this one or rent a small boat and take her
along for the day. Wait a few years for the BIG ONE trip. My wife
REFUSES to go fishing with me, but doesn't scream too loudly about
my going. (Might be because it's one of my cheaper hobbies!) ;-)
Above all, on your honeymoon, HAVE FUN. Just don't make my mistake
and let the wife go shopping when you go fishing. It will be the
most EXPENSIVE fishing trip you will ever take. ;-}
re -1:
See how expensive it is to get your wife (or girl friend) involved
in fishing. They just have to have one of those Purple worms because
it goes so well with the high-heels she's wearing. ;-{)

| I've heard that bermuda has some outstanding bonefishing, and this
can be done with a guide, wading the flats, or from a skiff. I'd
suggest you contact the place you're staying and ask who to contact
to get a reputable guide. for one day, it's probably your best bet.
Bring some sneakers, polaroids, a long billed cap and some sunblock,
as well as a reel with at least 200 yards of 6lb test and a good(!!)
drag. Hope this helps.

468.9 | flashy lures or local bait | CSSE::PETERSEN | | Tue Sep 08 1987 14:03 | 18 |
|
I visited Bermuda in '82 and had a blast. I brought along my
freshwater tackle and hit the rocks. I caught quite a few fish,
but don't ask me what they were!! I used spoons and kastmasters
(blue/silver), anything flashy will do.
I also fished the Bahamas last spring, when I was in town I got
some Conch scraps from the locals who were cutting them up, later
that night I caught a Skate off the hotel beach, one of the best
fights I've ever had!, it broke the line just as I got it to shore.
Bring leaders (for the Barracudas), 10,12,15 LB test line, #8,#6
hooks (for bait, Conch,Hermit crabs etc.) and alot of shiny flashy
spoons/kastmaster type lures.
Good Luck and let us know how you did!!!

Thanks for all the advice from all you "happily married" fisherman.
I've decided it best to sell all my rental property, close my savings
accounts and IRA's, and leave a day early with my fishin' buddy....
and never return.
Only kidding, but the thought did pass through my mind several times.
Beth will go with me when I'm fishing... only problem will be spending
most of the day removing birds nests from her line.
I'll let you all know how the fishin goes. I'll probably go for
baracuda or bone fish (whatever they are) near shore from a small boat.
Thaks again.

468.11 | Charter the boat!! | DZIGN::SCALA | | Wed Sep 09 1987 18:20 | 17 |
| Unless you plan to go to Bermuda once a year, I will cast the odd
vote and advise that you spring for the $$$$ and chareter a boat
and go for the big ones. When we were on our honeymoon we did just
that and it was great. There will always be time for casting from
the shore someplace.
We went with captaion Russell Young on the "Sea Wolf". He was
considered one of the best and is a classic on the island (pushing 70).
If you go now, I believe it will still be Marlin season which is
the main attraction. At the least, you will catch a few Wahoo's
or Yellow fin Tuna (20lbs to 250lbs).
There are services on the Island to set up the trip. Don't miss
it! Feel free to call if want more details.

| re. .10
< ...Beth will go with me when I'm fishing... only problem will be spending

In the interest of her enjoyment of the time as well as yours, you might
consider using spinning reels and leave the baitcasters for the bass. I made
a big mistake with my wife and canoing a long time ago. The first few times
we went out I demanded too much of her, and did not provide a completely
positive outing before I got her involved in the less enjoyable parts. Now she
all but refuses to go out in a canoe. If I only had it to do over.
If Beth pulling out backlashes or you pulling them out for her is going to
lessen the positive experience she has during her introduction to fishing, then
don't worry about spending a few bucks to make it easier on both of you. If
this fishing experience goes badly, it may be a long time before you get her
out there again.

RE: .10
Beth gets birds nests on my shimono spinning reels, I won't let
her touch my Abu 5500GR baitcaster. But I have seen some improvement
lately with her casting and I usually limit her to fishing shiners
only.... kind of makes her sit a wait rather than have to cast too
ofter with rubber worms or lures. Most of the time she is content
just to sit and read a book while I fish off the docks or we take
out my 10' skiff.
RE: .12
Yo Coonass,
Nope, I don't spell it BOUDREAUX. The family is from outside of Saint-
Hyacinthe near Quebec. The original spelling was Beaudreault.
Any Conucs of that variety down there?

I wouldn't go out in a canoe with you again, either.
