442.1 | THERE MY MOT HAVE BEEN A LEGEND! | VENOM::WATERS | The Legend of the Lakes | Tue Aug 11 1987 11:37 | 14 |
| Ha....Boy did I ever! A long time ago when I was just an average
fisherman like yourself...(not a Legend)!
I stepped the wrong way and nearly drowned!! You never seen anyone
get out of chest-waders that fast, I'll tell ya!
They were great to have while that lasted....I had tem hanging in
the cellar by the window, a skunk got locked in the cellar one night
(don't ask how) and tried to use my waders for a ladder to get to
the window....Now I use the Legend Mobile whenever I get out to
do some Hawg Hunting!!

| Don,
If I'd bought my hip boots before my boat I probably never would
have bought the boat. The boots stay in the back of my wagon for
stops on the way home or spur-of-the-moment fishing.
Reasons I'm having fun:
- Abundance of bass in the local rivers.
_ Most are smallmouth; lots of fight, leaping, spit in yer eye.
- Rivers are easier to read without electronics.
- Haven't fallen down yet. This won't last.
The river was swollen with yesterdays rain last night and I had
no luck at all. Sunday morning my 6 year old and I were killing
'em. Saw a huge fish (5+ #) cruising the shallows as we were leaving.
I'm going back every night til I get him.

442.3 | belly boat special | GENRAL::HUNTER | from SUNNY Colorado, Wayne | Tue Aug 11 1987 11:43 | 11 |
| Don,
If you really want to continue the fun, buy yourself a belly
boat. You can go out a little farther and still be belly deep in
the water. It is even more fun landing about a 30" pike in an
inflatable boat when you're chest deep. It is also fun trying to
figure out where you will end up on the lake when you hook a good
fish. I finally broke down today and ordered two of the Bass Tracker
Belly Boats (the $39.96 ones). Maybe now I won't be afraid of missing
a fish and jamming a 2/0 hook into a vinyl tube (shades of the old
cartoons jetting across the water). But, I have to agree, when
you are down at water level, fishing is a lot more fun.

| Hmmmmm, a belly boat... That would be fun, I could even strap a
little tackle box to the tube... And I could probably slap my LCR
on there too! Although I guess I'd have to attach the transducer
to my foot... And I guess the trolling motor wouldn't be too bad,
although the battery may weigh me down a bit... wouldn't need a
livewell, could use a `good' stringer, and just tie it to the other
foot... and for nighttime bass'n I guess I could get one of those
coal miner hats.... yea... that's the ticket...
On the serious side, now that I've tried wading, a belly boat does
sound like it'd be fun! Don Mac

| OK now that you have got down to the fun fishing stage. You must
buy two (2) more items.
1) a wide belt. Most GOOD waders have loops for a belt near
the top. If they don't buy one anyway. Where the belt on the outside
of your waders. You say why? Ask the legend about his step the
wrong way. If you have a belt on not much water gets in. Some
does and you shirt and pants get wet but you will not have to dump
out the boats. This will save your life someday. Try swimming
in a river with your waders full in a strong current, with the belt
you float!
2) buy a hook type hammer holder not the loop they hook. Put
this on the sepender strap. makes tring notes much easier when
you don't have to hold onto the rod.
Good luck

| Kieth, believe me, the thought crossed my mind...................
Amd Coonass, from what Joe had to say about the places you fish,
I wouldn't even dream of wading in those places... I don't think
wading and critters the likes of Phideaux go together!!!!!!!!!

442.11 | $400.00 float tube | GENRAL::HUNTER | from SUNNY Colorado, Wayne | Thu Aug 13 1987 11:08 | 12 |
| Don,
You might have been kidding about the LCR finder and trolling
motor, but one of my friends did this to his belly boat. $60.00
for the boat and $400.00 for the equipment.
The real nice thing about the belly boat is that you don't have
to worry about stepping in a hole at night. If you do, you just
float on over it. I wouldn't suggest yo use a flot tube in our
rivers out here though. Unless you like white water tubing. Real
exciting when the waves are breaking over your head. Also, use
the belt on the waders in a float tube. Otherwise you end up skipping
water over the top of the waders. If the water is 40 degrees, it
will wake you up REAL FAST.

442.12 | wading = fun | LUDWIG::BING | | Tue May 29 1990 08:01 | 22 |

Well I tried wading and fishing for the first time the other day
and had a great time. I got lots of sun, saw some very nice ladies
on the beach and caught more fish than I could count.
I lost track after 12 and fished for a couple more hours after that.
I did'nt fall into any holes but did find some rather deep mud....
One thing to be careful of is structure in the water. I walked into
a fallen limb and got stuck with a branch where I would rather not
get stuck!
I fished with a flyrod and had a great time. I am planning on doing
it again this weekend. and in case you're wondering where I caught
all them fish, it was.......in the lip. Actually it was Big Chauncy
in westboro. They were all kivers but still fun on the flyrod. We
caught about 6 that were big enough to eat, although they went back
in. The kivers are sitting on nests now.
Anyone know some good, safe (no broken glass etc), water in the
worc. area to wade?

| I got several fish wading this weekend. All largemouth, 6" to 3.5lbs. All on
smoke/metal flake gitzits (one on a Spinnerbait). Didn't see any on beds,
but I suspect the spinnerbait fish was on one. She weighed about 3.5lbs.
With the clear water I was fishing, I saw her hit and watched her fight the
whole way.

442.14 | I was out too! | DELNI::OTA | | Mon Jun 04 1990 10:08 | 9 |
| I was out wading this weekend too and as I mushed through the heavy
weeds I must have been stirring up a lot of feed because this monster
of a large mouth leaped less than a foot from my left hip, scared the
living sh*t out of me. I tried to bring my rod around to tempt him but
a 6'6" rod will in no way shape or form allow you to drop a line a foot
to your side with any grace form or skill. What a frustrating
experience.
