429.0. "YES, BASS IN RI!!!!!" by MOSAIC::BEAUDREAU () Tue Jul 28 1987 11:44

I'm new to this notes file and have found it most informative and
    sometimes even amusing...

Anyway, you guys should give RI a little more respect for its bass
fishing. I've been fishing in north west RI for over 25 years now
and did you know that a new state record for largemouth bass was
set earlier this year at 11 lbs+ from Wardons Pond in South County.

My personal best this season was a 4 1/2 lbs.... on an ultalight
shimono TX110 will 4 lb test stren..... caught right off my dock
on Pascoag Reservoir. What a fight! Several lurkers 6 to 7 lbs.
have been caught during the last two weeks alone... during the
    slow season.

This past heat wave has created some of my favorite conditions.
    That's jitter bugin' between 9:30 and 11 PM. I got a small 2 lb.+
largemouth last night to avoid a shutout just after my friend called
it quits. It took in the whole lure (never seen that before) just
seconds after castin under an overhanging branch, jumped twice,
then sounded deep into the weeds before finally landing it.
Had quite a job CAREFULLY removing the lure. Like most of you guys,
I too relase all catches not worth mounting. I rarely get shut
out and have caught at least one 2 lb+ bass a week this month.

Other good lakes around here are Wallum Lake and Wilson's Reservior
in Burrillville; Bowdish Lake (w/ floating islands) and Waterman's
Reservoir in Glocester; and Slatersville Reservoir in North Smithfield.

Oh yeah, there are Northern Pike in Pascoag Res. also. The record
is 17 1/2 lbs. My best was a nice 7 lb.+ caught last July.

Any of you guys want explore new fishin' waters ?

Sounds great..How much do you pay for a licenses? How much is
it for an out of state? I fish both Mass and N.H. And for the
amount of time I get to go fishing I rarely get to fish some of
the spots in my own state that I've had my eye on or heard good
    things about.

RE: 429.3 Steve from E. Putnum

    Steve,

I'm about 2 mi. in on Reservoir Rd (its a left, well marked on 44)
opposite pole 36 (mail box #109). I got a choice from my friends boats
parked at my docks (that why they call me the Harbor Master, some
days it looks like a marina). I mostly use my 12 ft. fiberglass skiff
equipped with a real old 5 1/2 HP Johnson. Its pretty stable for standup
    castin'.

However, 90% of the bass I've caught this season have been right
off the docks. I know I caught the same 2# at least 5 times this
season. For a challenge I use my ultralight with 4lb. test line.
It's more fun that way. But when I'm out in y boat doin serious
fishin', I go to my medium tackle with 8 or 10 lb test; and put
on steel leader if I'm going for Northern Pike.

As for a license, I don't know what they charge for an out-of-state
person for the season. I will post that info here as soon as I
can. But don't worry, You don't need one to fish off my dock,
and I haven't seen a game wardon yet out on the lake during a week
    night.

Pick a day (preferrable early in the week) and drive up, its only
about 12 - 15 minutes from out your way.

Contact me via VAXmail on node RAINBO::BEAUDREAU if you want to
    try your luck.

429.6Looking for new spotsFXADM::TUTTYFri Jun 09 1989 16:5820
    RE. 429.0

    Hello,

I live on Slatersville Res, near the old railroad trestle. The bass
fishing was good when I moved in back in 1985, however this relatively
small res. is overfished, with a bass tourney group here every 3-4wks.
Looking for other fishing spots, such as your body of water and
small ponds that are not well known. Care to share any low traffic
spots that you can use a canoe or shore fish?

Tried trout fishing at Round Top and have caught stocked rainbows.
Nice place, but on the small side.

How about Wallum lake? Would like to put my canoe in and try for
bass or trout (if still stocking). Can I shore fish from the R.I.
side or do I have to go to Mass end of Rt. 100?

    Enjoying little Rhody fishing,
    Charlie
