428.0. "Lake Champlain topo map?" by HPSCAD::WFIELD () Mon Jul 27 1987 13:02

I am going on vacation in VT at the end of this week, and will be in the Button
Bay area. Can anyone tell me where I might be able to get a topographical map
of lake champlain?

Most of the Marinas and tackle shops in the area carry
a laminated navigational chart of the lake with markers
and depths. It's in four sections-2 different charts.
I use it frequently and have found it to be pretty acurate
    with the fish finder.
Will you be fishing in that area ?

    Good luck,
    Marty

For what ever it's worth, Forest Orchard's on Rt 20 in Northboro, Ma
claims to have at least one copy of every topo map in New England.
The one's I've seen cast about $2.75.

Thanks for the replys, Guess what I really want is a chart, not
a topo map. Yes I'll be doing some fishing on the lake if anybody would
care to suggest a good spot for some bass.

Thanks

    Wayne,
I haven't been fishing much for bass on Champlain as
I've been concentrating on the summer pike tournament
that runs until the end of August or so. Earlier in the
year we were catching lots of Salmon and Browns just
north of Button Bay near the green marker can, but over the
deeper water (240ft seemed to be the spot). We used number 44
sutton spoons. In closer to shore in that area are some shallow
rocky spots would seem like good smallmouth area.

    Good luck,
    marty

I was up there several weeks ago for vacation. We rented a boat
out of North Hero and fished of of the Islands rigt out of the bay.

We were using most of the popular lures but the winning combo was
jigs with Mr Twister soft snad. They were the gray and metal flake
with the square tail. I was hitting small mouth bass and walleyes
quite reguraly(bad spelling). I lost alot fish because I was using
6# test line and the fish were cutting the line! Cought alot of
good size yellow perch.. It was a good time.
