| I was fishing out of York, Me. this past weekend and we hit blues
in the 10-15lb range. LOTS of baitfish around to bring them up.
We fished the ledge around Boone Island. We kept four and let the
rest go.

| Having gone out of Barnstable on Charters quite a few times, the
price has been $300 dollars for a party of 6. I have seen prices
for other boats as high as $400. This usually equates to about 6
hours of fishing, as they usually spend 2 hours running to the spots
and back. The half day trips are cheaper, but hardly worth the effort.

| There is an intereting article in todays Boston Globe 7/15 by Tony
Chamberlin "Deceiving the bluefish" which speaks to getting away
from the "not so fun" heavy tackle and wire line to get at the blues.
Good reading.....

407.6 | Any Tips on Surf Fishing | GRUNT::FOOTE | | Thu Aug 13 1987 16:54 | 12 |
| -< Surf fishing >-
I tried some surf fishing at Nausset Beach Cape Cod. We used cut
up mackerel. Caught a couple 3-4 lb Blues, but there were three
poles in the water for a solid 3 hours.
It sounds like you really need a boat to catch Blue fish...
Any tips on fishing from the surf?
Thanks

| I have a favorite lure that I like to use when surf casting
for blues. It's called a Tony Accetta Pet Spoon. They come in various
sizes but this was probably the biggest (about 6" long). I bought
one as a kid for $.25 and the reason I bought it was that the hook
on this thing was large enough to use the lure as a small gaff.
We spent hours throwing $6-$10 rebel type plugs with no luck. I
decided to try this thing as a joke. I got a fish on my first cast.
I got 3 strikes on my second cast and another fish on the 3rd cast.
Because I was fishing with what was supposed to be our gaff, we
didn't have one. On the 2nd fish I brought in, a friend grabbed the
steel leader to bring the fish in and the steel leader unravelled
letting the fish get away with the lure. Everyone else was throwing
plugs before, during, and after this happened with no luck at all.
We even tried weighting the plugs so they'd run deeper and still
nothing.
If they were taking the cut bait, this lure may have been
just the thing to use to speed up the action. If you find and use
one, let me know how you made out.

| Well If you are going to go all the way to Nausset Beach keep
going to RACE Point. The blues at nausset come in and out.
The point seems to always have fish. Last time I was there a guy
came up to me to ask how things were going. No one had a fish for
a week on the point and at nausset were he had just come from.
We were just starting but had 4 already on sand eels. You can guy
frozen eels at Goose Humock at the Orleans rotary.
We also got fish on cast master draging along the bottom with a
plastic eel teaser in front. There was an equal split between the
teaser and the castMaster on number of fish.
