386.1 | Q-D swivel seats = the best | CSSE::PETERSEN | | Wed Jun 24 1987 15:49 | 14 |

Boy do I know where you're coming from!!!
I just bought 2 seats from US marine in Waltham, they are plastic
quick disconnect mount type. You mount a small pad 8 X 8" and 1.5
high to the canoe seat, ( i put a piece of wood under the seat and
bolted it to the wood also for more support cause the seats are
kinda thin) and then you can slide the seats on and off in seconds,
and besides being comfortable they swivel 360 degrees, you can also
buy custom cushions for them, but i settled for the "one size fits
all for" $14.00 The seats were about $40.00 each but I would have paid
at least $50.00 for them. I know these seats will last me forever,
or at least until I buy my next bigger boat!

386.2 | Can you still sit without seat? | TRACTR::DOWNS | | Thu Jun 25 1987 08:43 | 5 |

If you decide that you don't want to use this seat, can you
still sit on your original canoe seat or does it have a bolt and
piece of wood in the center of it?

| I have one of those Coleman plastic clip-on seats, and I think they
work kind of well. When my back starts to get stiff, I just lean
back and "snap, crackle, pop" I relieve all that tension in my back
over the top of the seat.
I also would be careful about how high you raise the seat in the
canoe with foam or whatever. You want to maintain your lowest center
of gravity as possible. I sat on my floatation cushion once and
it made the canoe fell very tipsy. My canoe is 36 inches wide
at the beam, so it's quite stable. Last weekend when the water
was calm, I was even standing up in it casting and using the electric
trolling motor. I was surprised that it wasn't too difficult to
maintain my balance. I would never try this, however, in deep water
or when it's choppy.
Good luck in deciding what you want.

386.4 | why remove the pad?? | CSSE::PETERSEN | | Sat Jun 27 1987 15:45 | 11 |
| RE: .2
No, once you mount the pad (4 bolts) it's there until you want to
take 1/2 an hour to remove 2 of them. I don't think I'll take off
the pads, unless I buy a new boat, they really are comfortable.
If you want to see these seats, I work in stow and sometimes have
the canoe with me just send me a note.

Yea, I suppose they would, but you'd have to tighten them up before
every trip out, the nuts I put on are already loosening up, there
is alot of tension on the pads when you start swiveling around.
BTW, finally caught a hawg, 5 lber when I went out in the rain Sat!
See, these seats really do work!
Erik.
