Room for us poor ranger types to launch, etc???

| Yeap Ron, Rangers are common at Hopkington. However, you probably
won't be able to open that big Merc up, unless of course you'd like
to have your Ranger referred to as the New Stump Jumpa - literally...

| Hopkinton Lake + Ranger + Wide Open = STUMPA + JUMPA + PUMPA!
Hopkinton Lake is a *V*E*R*Y interesting lake...lots of structure...
weeds, pads, logs, underwater roadbeds, dropoffs (like 5' to 20'
just like that!), channels, rocks, bridge abutments, and...oh
yeah...stumps...stumps...and more stumps! A proverbial bass paradise!
The launch ramp is concrete and in pretty good shape...no problems
launching a metal-flake monster. It's also an ideal place for canoes!
-Hj-
PS - Gee, I wonder if "R/O" will reply to this note...I mean, he
only asked me yesterday if we were gonna do another NH event.
HEY RICK...in case you've forgotton (I mean, it's been sooo long),
at the notes prompt, type "REP" and press <RETURN>.

Of course, if you feel confident enough to be a "one-man team" and
want to compete against two-man (er...people) teams, then be my

369.14 | Newcomers Welcome? | FXADM::SORRENTINO | | Fri Jun 12 1987 15:58 | 13 |
|
I would like to take part in this contest. But I must first
ask if newcomers are welcome, and if non-semi-pros are welcome,
and if some one is looking for a partner, who, as you can see from
the above statements, would not mind being with an amature.
If fishing with the group of people who participate in this
conference is as entertaining as the conference, I think I will
have a great time.

|
369.15 | ALL ARE WELCOME! | AIMHI::TOMAS | Joe | Fri Jun 12 1987 16:41 | 26 |
| Sure, Peter, plan to join us. The more the merrier. And don't
worry about the rest of us...just because Ron has a Ranger doesn't
make him any better a fisherman. And DonMac fishes like a newcomer
all the time, so you shouldn't feel out of place. And so I don't
leave myself open, I have been known to forget to put the plug in
my boat before I launched ( of course, I just wanted to rinse out
the bilge!) - just like a newcomer.
If anyone out there is planning to join in the fun & games and doesn't
have a partner - Peter is ready, willing and...well...let's leave
it at that.
re: the "mud" hole and Bass'n Bob...
Bbo, Hopkintno Lak is bout 45 minutse north of Merrimck. You go
north up Rt 93 to rt 89 north, take exit 5 off 89 for about 1 mile.
Right afta yu cross the brigde over the mud hole, you tak a right.
At the end of the road, go left to the lunch rump. Ya got dat?
As far as a NH licensse goes, I've neber seen a warden out there,
but tthats' up to you to decide...
C'mon up...if you wants to see a REAL bass lake...not like that
dumpy place called Monomonomonomonac.

BTW...I hope you need bug spray this weekend 'cause I'm gonna put

|
369.20 | LET'S SEE MORE ENTRIES!!! | AIMHI::TOMAS | Joe | Thu Jun 18 1987 18:07 | 37 |
| Although there seems to be a little slow getting people to register
for this event, the list is still growing. I'll update it in a
couple of days.
Rules will be about the same as they have in the past...simple.
* 10 bass/boat limit
* 10" min. size
* "Catch 'n Release"
* Entry fees: $10 per boat - Total Weight Pool
$ 5 per boat - Hawg Pool
Because I don't expect a HUGE turnout, the pot won't be real large,
therefore, I propose that WINNING TEAM TAKES ALL for the total weight
category rather than dividing it up into 2nd and 3rd places. The
HAWG POOL goes to the boat with the largest fish. It's up to the
partners to decide to split that pool or whether the person catching
the hawg walks away with it.
Now, for the directions...
Assuming you live south of Concord, NH, travel north up Rt 93 towards
Concord. Take the Rt 89 north exit off Rt 93. Take exit #5 of Rt 89
(actually, the highway forks at this point and exit 5 is to the left).
About 1 mile after exiting off 89, you'll cross a bridge that goes over
Hopkinton Lake (often referred to as Stumpfield Lake/Pond). Slow down
when you hit the bridge and take the first right after the bridge. Go
down that road to the end (just a short, bumpy road) and take a LEFT.
That takes you to the launch ramp...you can't miss it.

369.21 | FLASH: Hopkinton Lake UPDATE | AIMHI::TOMAS | Joe | Mon Jun 22 1987 13:50 | 16 |
| Well, Chris and I spent about 18 hours (yeah...that's right...from
4:30 AM to after dark) on Hopkinton Lake this past Saturday. Total
take was about 14-15 bass (we lost count). The largest bass boated
was only 3.5lbs while the majority were 1-2 pounders. I did manage
to lose one that was in the 5-6 lb. category...but that was my fault.
I was only using 6lb test line in the stumps (what a dummy!!).
After that, I immediately switched over to my new LamiGlas 6' HEAVY
duty rod with 12 lb. test line. Boy, what a difference in hook
setting power with that rod!
Soooo....for you people that haven't registered yet...don't miss
out on this action-packed "mud hole" as Bassin Boob (oops) calls it.
Although unconfirmed, I was told a 9lber was hauled out of there
last month (teaser...)

riding shot gun for the LEGEND and he gave me the big nod!! I, The Legend
of the Lakes will be there with my faithful and talented partner...the one
and only MR. BASS. I would appreciate not spreading the word around....for
fear that every fishing and outdoor magazine writer will be there trying to
get an interview with the LEGEND...The Legend doesn't do interviews!!
I am 2-0 on the tourney scene this year....So bring your wallets and your GUNS
we're taking the money no matter what happens!!
See you there boys!! I may have a few more Dec people that are interested!

I will not be able to make this one... Can't blame him though,
big names do draw crowds... Well, Mr. Legend, looks like you'll
have all the sports writers to yourself, seeing as though I probably

| This could be very interesting. The Legend of the Swamps and
Captain Hook in the same boat. Possibly a canoe no less. :-)
I'll never forget the time Chris, and Buzz and I went night bass
fishing at Pawtuckaway. When we went to top water, Chris tied on
an imatation field mouse. So I guess it was only appropriate that
his first cast was into the midlle of a field. Adds to the realistic
effect I guess. :-)
I'll have to see about putting this one down on the calendar
after checking to see if my fishing buddy Ken can make it. It should
be a lot of fun (and laughs).

P.S. The title is something that I'm sure Buzz understands.

say FEW!) good bassers, but we also have some good BRAGGARDS! (I
won't give names, but just read back a few replies....it'll be obvious"
To date, here's the tentative list of participants:
Joe "HoleShot" Tomas Rick "Read/Only" Palmer

It appears that Don "CAN'T bother the bass" Mac is WIMPING out on
this event. Obviously, he's succumbed to the tremendous pressure
and realizes that the competition is going to be fierce and probably
doesn't need the additional embarassment of checking in with a dry
live well. That's ok Don, "R/O" and I would feel real guilty taking
your money.

It appears there's some confusion as to who "Mr Bass" really is.
Following is some mail I received regarding impersonations...
From: QUALTY::LAMARCHE "George Lamarche" 26-JUN-1987 09:07
To: AIMHI::TOMAS
cc: WORDS::RYAN,VENOM::WATERS
Subj: HOPKINTON LAKE BASS TOURNAMENT
JOE, THE REAL MR. BASS HAS BEEN INPERSONATED FOR THE LAST TIME. CHRIS
RYAN HAS USED THE NAME FOR THE LAST TIME. I AM THE REAL MR. BASS AND I WILL
LAY CLAIM TO THAT TITLE AT 10:01 P.M. ON THE 18TH ON NEXT MONTH. THERFORE
MYSELF GEORGE "THE REAL MR. BASS" LAMARCHE AND KEVIN "THE HAWG HAULER"
MCCARTHY WILL GLADLY ENTER THE HOPKINTON LAKE BASS TOURNAMENT. BUT I WOULD
LIKE TO MAKE ONE THING CLEAR WITH MR. RYAN ON THE RULES. TAMPONS DO NOT COUNT
AND CANNOT BE WEIGHED IN. OH! BY THE WAY CHRIS, MY WIFE WILL NOT LET YOU USE
HER ROD AND REEL!!!! SO YOUR GOING TO HAVE TO BREAKDOWN AND BY ONE OF THOSE
MORON RIGS THAT DON'T BACKLASH. I SAY NO MORE, THE CHALLANGE HAS BEEN ISSUED
WINNER TAKE ALL. SEE YOU ON THE 18TH.
...to which I received the following reply only moments later...(joe)
From: VENOM::WATERS "John J. Waters (The Legend) MKO1-2/F35 264-8978" 26-JUN-1987 09:21
To: AIMHI::TOMAS,WORDS::RYAN,QUALTY::LAMARCHE,WATERS
Subj: WE EXCEPT!!
George, We except your challenge and look forward to taking your money
and the name MR. BASS and giving the name back to the rightful owner!
Chris Ryan is a fisherman of great depth and skill in the sport of HAWG
HUNTING. I have a problem with the name..the Hawg Hauler ....What in the
hell does that mean?!! I am preparing for the fight of the century on the
18th....You will hang your head low when the Lengend and the REAL Mr. Bass
come in for the way in. The Legend of the Lakes will be respected after
the 18th...FOREVER. This tourney is brewing into a personal challenge
for the LEGEND and MR. BASS.
WE'LL BE THERE
John (THE LEGEND) Waters
So folks, it appears that there's more than just $$$ at stake here.
Someone will walk away with the title of "Mr. Bass"!
Also, it appears that Bassin Boob (oops again) has been humbled
into making an appearance, however, it's not clear that he has a
confirmed partner. Is Bob planning to go it alone? Does Bob really
think he can compete against the likes of teams of ME and "R/O", or
RR and TBDW. Hummm...don't ya just love his confidence!?!
ONLY TIME WILL TELL...like George said...at 10:01PM on the 18th!
-Hj-
BTW...I was out on the lake Wed. nite and picked up a couple more
2+lbers...BUT...I know the location of where an 8 lber is lurking...

| So....Bassin Bob finally comes up with an excuse for backing out!
I knew he couldn't take the pressure...OR competition.
Just for curiosity's sake...how does everyone feel about moving
the time up...say we start at 1:00 PM and end at 7 or 8:00 PM??
If replies to this change show more dropouts than having it from
5-10 PM, then we'll leave it. But, if moving it up allows more
people to attend, then that's what we'll do. So let me know what
ya'll think. (Now BB has no excuse for a late nighter)

| The tourey sounds interesting. A recent relo to Merrimack from New
Jersey, I finally have time to think about things like bassin again.
I'll also need a partner and a floating one at that (I sold my Chris
when I left N.J.). It is probably unfair of me to enter. In NJ we
have this one lake called Hopatcong which I use to live on. It is
360 acres or so and has this one bass that all the fishermen in
NJ have to share. We take turns catchin and releasin the thing.
You gotta figure this is one hell of a smart fish by now. So if
I can catch fish in NJ, I can certainly beat the hell out of you
NH sissies that actually need lakes full of fish in order to reach
a limit.
Hope to link up with someone to show me the NH ropes.

369.53 | Look Out, Don Mac is BACK! | ABACUS::MACINTYRE | In search of the Largemouth Bass... | Sat Jul 04 1987 21:26 | 15 |
| The wife's b'day plans have been bumped up a week, so it looks like
Bri and I will be able to make it to this one after all!!!
Been on vaca for a week, but due to moving I haven't had much time to
fish (1.5hrs, 4 bass in a new honeyhole!)... however, the unpacking is
now just about done and this week the wife goes back to work AND I have
one whole blissful week of BASS'N!!!
Haven't got around to setting up the system at home yet so I had to
stop into work today to log in and find out where next week's ABC
tourny was going to be - geez looks like I have to fish "The Bog"
after all... oh well... at least I have a week to get up there and
practice...

guess that means "R/O" and I get to split some extra $$$ after we
show you guys how to fish! Maybe we'll make it interesting and
take the "Mr. BASS" title away as well! Then there'll be no further

| OK, folks...things are getting H*O*T! DonMac has apparently decided
that he's getting used to having his "clocks cleaned" so one more
time won't hurt. I just feel bad about taking his partner's $$!
And...it looks like The Legend has managed to sucker a couple of
others into this fiasco. Hey, "R/O"...we could use the money, huh?
So...here's the list of confirmed teams:
Joe "HoleShot" Tomas Rick "Read/Only" Palmer
Ray "One-Man-Band" Desrosiers Buzz "Bait" Shepard
"Ranger" Ron Scholz Gary "Back_Deck" Wiersum
Kyle Wooldridge John Goodhart
Jack "Lavender" Haggerty partner TBD ?
George "The REAL Mr Bass" LaMarche Kevin "Hawg Hauler" McCarthy
"The Legend" Waters "Mr Bass" Ryan
Don "E-Z Pickins'" MacIntyre "Along fer da Ride" Brian
Martial Vachon partner TBD ?
I still haven't received a confirmation from either Perry Faucher
or Peter Sorrentino, so I've moved them off the registration list
until I hear from them. Don't miss out on this guys ('n gals),
it's gonna be a FUN night!

hung up on stumps. The Legend WILL need a bull-horn...to call for
HELP! Plus, a couple of newcomers, Dave 'n Ed, are struttin their
stuff and claiming they've never lost a tourney. Just wait till
they get caught out in the stumps....it'll take Search & Rescue
hours to drag em out! I'd suggest you guys use float tubes...that
way you can walk out of there!
Then there's another new team of Tom and Sal (sounds like a name
for a mule!). It appears Tom has fished with the Legend before
and got totally turned off on fishin...I'll leave the reason for
that up to your imagination, but, after listing to the Legend poppin
off in this notesfile, one can only imagine what Tom had to put
up with in the boat!
Haven't heard from RR or TBDW lately...they're probably getting
a little concerned about the competition. Don't worry guys...the
only competition you need to worry about is R/O & ME!
And nothing at all from "Lavender" Haggerty...of course, with a
boat THAT color, I wouldn't want it to get around either.

4- ect

A reliable source just informed me that Bob's AFRAID OF THE DARK!
I'm beginning to think that maybe it's true!!
Plus, Bob says he's got another tourney to fish the next day...BIG
DEAL! RR and TBDW are fishin the same event and wouldn't miss out
on THE 2nd GREAT NEW HAMPSHIRE BASS BUSTIN BASH!
Sooo...if you're afraid of scratching your new bass barge...don't
want to drive up to "Gods' Country" to enjoy some of the BEST DAMN
bassin you'll ever find in the Northeast, and are afraid of GETTING
YOUR CLOCKS CLEANED!!!....then, that's OK, Bob...we'll understand!
And while on the subject of WIMPING OUT...I've also heard that our
friend from Uxbridge who would travel hundreds of miles just to
fish is having second thoughts! If it's because your partner is
backing out, then why not team up with Bassin Bob! Bob was saying
he'd take us on all by himself...but I'm sure he'd enjoy some company.
Of course, the two of you could just team up and WIMP OUT TOGETHER!
A DOUBLE WIMP WHAMY!!
As for the rest of us...we'll all be at the ramp for a night of

a canoe with an electric motor may be an advantage rather than a

At any rate we'll leave at least a couple fish for the tourney.
We have a tried and true method for catching fish in any lake. We're

| Hey Joe, R/O and I just got back from Hopkington. As you know,
we're both on vaca this week - well yesterday we did some local
water and got to talking about Hopkington, so we decided to do it
today... On the way there this morning I found out that R/O didn't
know that I had changed my entry status - he thought I wasn't going
to be fishing the tourny - you should have seen his face, I thought
he was going to pull over and drop me off on rt 89! He didn't
realizing that he'd be practicing tourny water along with the

369.76 | | AIMHI::TOMAS | Joe | Fri Jul 10 1987 10:31 | 38 |
| re: .74
You're probably right, Ray, in that a canoe may be an advantage,
especially down in the stumps. Chris, Don and I have all fished
it last year in a canoe and there's no question that we were able
to move around a lot better. However, the water level is about
12-18" higher that normal so moving around in a larger boat isn't
too difficult. The only problem a canoe will have for the tourney
is that the stumps are at the other end of the lake and will require
about 15 or so minutes to get there, so plan accordingly.
BTW...did I detect that you're planning on joining us?? If so,
WELCOME to the great mud-slinging contest...it seems that catching
fish will be secondary for this event. And forget about using Coonass
Bob's tried & true technique of "blast & release". The hawgs at
Hopkinton will throw it right back at you!
RE: .75
Don, R/O's expression was because he felt bad about us taking your
money...that's all.
TBDW has convinced me to provide maps of the lake at the launch
site. SO, in the spirit of fairness and sportsmanship, I will bring
them. I will have them marked with ONLY A FEW details...like locations
of a couple of underwater roadbeds and where the stumps are. Sorry
guys, depth readings are still proprietary info so bring along your
LCRs.
ALso, given the ENOURMOUS effort on my part in organizing and
coordinating this effort, I think it's only fair that I be compensated.
I think that 50% of the pool should go towards paying "administrative"
expenses. But don't worry too much about it because R/O and I will
only win the OTHER 50% anyways!!
Have a COOL weekend!

| The Legend of the Lakes has a request! I think that we should
use both ramps. I am taking the Legend Mobile (canoe) and I want
to launch at the ramp closest to the bridge. For the guys bringing
there bigger boats they'll have to use the concrete ramp...SOOOOO..
Why don't we all meet at the concrete ramp...then the people with
canoes can head for the other ramp. This will break up a lot of
commotion at the ramp. Then we can pull the boats and meet down
at the concrete ramp at 10:30pm theis will allow a half hour for
everyone to pull there equipment out of the water and then relax
with a cold one while the Legend tells that story!!!!
What do you think?....Joe.
I went up there yesterday...no one was catching anything. I caught
one bass, one pickerel. Had a lot of takes on worms but I think
they were pickerel....Lost a lot of firetails!!
I think it may be a good idea to but the official rules and regulations
in this file if you haven't already....I'd hate to see this time
be soured by a misunderstanding!
We should have a great time....a lot of laughs!
Oh and one more thing! I hate to be like this but because of past
experiences I would appreciate very much if you autograph seekers
could first let me get my canoe in the water....then I'll be happy
to give you my autograph! If I get enough requests I'll have some

not pulling a trailer can park up the road a bit. Besides, I wouldn't
want anyone accusing the Legend that he put some lead weight into
any of his fish going from one ramp to another.
Following are the directions and "official" rules governing this
event...
DIRECTIONS TO HOPKINTON LAKE:
The "OFFICIAL" RULES:
* Entry fees: $10 per boat - Total Weight Pool
$ 5 per boat - Hawg Pool
Although the turnout looks pretty good, I still propose that the
WINNING TEAM TAKES ALL for the total weight category rather than
dividing it up into 2nd and 3rd places. The HAWG POOL goes to
the boat with the largest fish. It's up to the partners to decide
to split that pool or whether the person catching the hawg walks
away with the pot.
Rules will be about the same as they have in the past...simple.
* 10 bass/boat limit (5 each)
* 12" min. size (previously stated at 10"...sorry, Don)
* "Catch 'n Release" - no penalty for dead fish but try to keep
them alive.
* 50 Yard proximity rule - i.e. remain at least 50 yards away from
other boats in an area
* NO live bait - artificial lures ONLY
* NO trolling
* NO more than ONE line/person in the water
That should be about it for rules...
Now...for the latest list of teams...

I put in a few lines. Yes, it is the dynamic duo, Mr. Bass, and
the LEGEND who will prevail, I have been imitated and verbally abused
for too long, this tourny will by all means, weed out the wimps
as big joe say's. In fact Joe you have done alot of B.S.ing , I
hope your Rod isn't as big as your mouth, you'll have to use the
other RAMP to launch your rod! And as far as the rest of you hackers

loosly)... I will be there with a partner...
Although I don't know most of you... most of you will know me by
the end of the night... I will be the guy collecting the prize money
(this oughtta be a blast).. I have been keeping a "low-profile"

BE NOTICED saturday night.
My partner will be my brother-in-law, who has learned all his BASSIN'
tecniques from myself... so, I am pretty sure that winning this
thing oughtta be a cinch (sigh, hope it won't be too easy, good
competition is soooo hard to find).

But don't expect any paybacks....R/O and I have this place down
to a science and there's NO WAY you or any of the other braggards
stand a chance!
BTW...I forgot to mention in .85 that launch time is 5PM sharp!
I was going to suggest that canoes launch first...but that would be
cruel because the REAL bass boats would only swamp y'all with our
holeshots and wakes...whether by accident or, more likely,
intentionally. SO, canoes and other smaller crafts (like the Legend's
infamous Bath_Tub_Mobile, float tubes, etc) will launch immediately
after the REAL bass boats have launched. If you have a problem
with this...tough!

369.91 | the Hopkinton LEGEND! | AIMHI::TOMAS | Joe | Mon Jul 13 1987 15:31 | 17 |
| Speaking of Legends....in all fairness to those of you planning
on using canoes, I feel it's only proper that I give you fair warning.
Hopkinton Lake has its own "LEGEND"...the 10' SNAPPER. Although
it is rarely seen, it has been known to totally devour canoes and
their occupants in a single gulp! Biologists theorize that the
canoes must appear to the SNAPPER as giant pickeral of which there
is an abundance. One fortunate survivor claimed that he made a
cast towards what appeared to be a bed of moss and weeds, only to
have the weeds suddenly disappear, leaving behind a trail of bubbles.
Then, without warning, this HUGE snout emerged at the stern canoe and
started to inhale the entire canoe. The only reason he survived
was because the SNAPPER has a little problem getting past the trolling
motor which gave him time to jump out, swim to an old tree and climb
it. He was rescued the next day by a passing fisherman.

| I have been enjoying the current tourney discussion tremendously over the
last couple weeks and what is apparent to some observers, if not the
participants themselves, is that only one team is gonna win. And being the
good accountant that I am, I have been pondering how to turn this obscure
bit of knowledge into cash money. Now, I considered bookmaking, but I gave up
after trying to compute the odds of DonMac winning..... (-;
So, after checking all the angles (pun intended), I decided to copyright the
excuses that most of you will need immediately afterwards. I contacted the
patent office and was surprised that no one had beat me to it.
So, as of this morning, there is a fee of $1.50 plus Mass 5% sales tax for the
use of the following:
1. A cold front came through this morning.
2. There's a hole in my live-well (or landing net).
3. I caught fish. It was my partner who got skunked.
4. The bass all wanted < insert color here > spinnerbaits. I had every color
but.
5. The place was fished out.
6. I prefished the lake/pond last weekend and hauled out some monsters.
Guess I shoulda released a couple.
7. So what! < insert another fishermans name here > didn't win either!
8. I was disqualified. I can't help it if the ones I caught had been feeding
on discarded sinkers.
9. < insert winners names here > cheated!
10.It's just one tournament. I'm still better than those <expletive deleted>.

BTW...again, in the fairness of competition (gee...I'm such a nice

DonMac and I have fished Hopkinton Lake quite extensively in the
last couple of years and have found that the BEST worm to use to
consistantly catch large bass is the black or purple curly FIRETAIL!
But don't give up on it...and bring plenty along...you'll need them
for all the hits they get!

P.S. With all the verbal abuse you guys give me, I really don't

| I have a question about the directions. At the end of the short
bumpy road mentioned in .85 I took a right instead of a left. Is this
the other ramp John talked about earlier ? If yes, I intend to launch
from there as it is closer to where I want to fish.
re: fire-tail worms
I've used these in the past and had a lot of action with them.
Unfortunatly all the action was from pickeral, not bass. I'm taking
Friday off and going up there in the morning. I'll give you the
benifit of the doubt and give it a shot. During the tourney though
I don't much care if the worms work or not as last time up I managed
to get 3 fish in a hour on top water. If I have a repeat performance
of this, I will have no problem catching my limit. As for my partner
Ken, he caught 4 before I ever got my first one. I would say that it's
definitely going to take 10 fish to win this tourney.
If anyone winds up without a partner, they will not stand a
chance in this tourney the way the rules are. The most they can weigh
in will be 5 fish maximum vs. a 10 fish maximum.

launch from the same place.
BUT...ONCE AGAIN, to show you just what a swell guy I am (and seeing
as I'm the tourney "coordinator"), I say that all canoes (yeah,
that also means the Bath_Tub_Mobile) can have an EXTRA 15 minutes
to get back to the launch ramp. Fair enough??

Let me get this straight. A guy took one of your meadow mouses
and shoved it up your anal opening and it died of aids ? Also, you
really think you could take my 15' laker up there too ? I guess I'd
give up my $10 to see that, so long as you cleaned off my canoe
when you were done with it :-) Now I know why you *really* had to have
those operations a while back. To perform a meadow mousectomy no doubt :-)
That poor meadow mouse never did anything to you. For that matter,
it never did anything for you either.
As far as Provincetown goes, I've never been there. I didn't
even know they had a tourney there. Mind telling us how you knew
about a Provincetown tourney ?

P.S. All bull aside, I'm looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday

BTW...for those of you "non-WIMPS" planning on being there, be sure

everyone should have some type of light on as the channel back to the

Ryan just stopped by my office to try harassing me. What a couple
of loud-mouth goons...I've been calling Bassin Bob a wimp for not
planning to show up...but I'll tell you, these two guys are SUPER
WIMPS from the word GO!!! I'd seriously suggest that you all wear
your hipboots and make sure you DON'T walk where they've been...it
could spell disaster!
I won't go on telling you about these perch-jerkin' bozos, you'll
all get a chance to meet them tomorrow...and wishin' you hadn't!!

369.127 | My space has been violated | TOPCAT::MACINTYRE | In search of the Largemouth Bass... | Fri Jul 17 1987 10:41 | 15 |
| I knew something was fishy when I turned into my aisle and saw various
birds of pray circling above my cubicle. As I got closer a foul stench
became evident, sort of smelled like dead kibbies. When I reached the
entrance, it was obvious by the slimey piles of dying aquatic vegetation
that my office had recently been host to the lowest form of fisher-type-
person, as we know it, the worm-dunk'n-kibby-catchers. Then, to my horror,
I noticed that a photograph of myself and one of my 7lb range fish, had
been moved. It was on my desk, instead of on my file cabinet, and there
was a note. I couldn't exactly make out what it said, something about
oferring me large sums of money not to fish this up and coming event.
But I was out able to make out the signature, it was signed, "The Legend".
Now to the matter at hand, does anyone know the phone number of the MK01
clean-up crew, this place reaks...

that foul stench clears. When the clean-up crew is done at your
place, send them over to R/O's and my office...they've polluted
the air here too!
I'd also suggest that everyone stay UPWIND of the Bath-Tub-Mobile
unless you want your monofil to rot before your very eyes! It's
absolutely amazing how, every time they open their mouths to speak,
the air becomes polluted...and you thought the stench of low tide
was bad??

369.157 | THE RESULTS ARE IN!! | AIMHI::TOMAS | Joe | Mon Jul 20 1987 11:00 | 167 |
| Well, folks...the results are in. Needless to say, we all had a super time
(didn't we??) Congratulations to Keith Dilsworthy and Mike Hayward for an
OUSTANDING performance...by far, they walked away from the rest of us. It's
obvious Keith has been doing a lot of practicing down in the stumps!
I guess we all have to watch out for the "quiet" ones that say little and
then show us all up! I have to agree, though, that Keith's 4.25 lb hawg
did look as though it had been mounted before as it was stiff as a board when
he weighed it in. Did anyone happen to catch the taxidermists initials on
the side he didn't show us??
And now...here's the "REST OF THE STORY"...
The Legend and Mr Bass showed up early and started B-B-Qing a couple slabs
of meat in front of the rest of us. It's now obvious from his spectacular
performance (ha, ha) that he decided to EAT HIS CROW early! I thought that
stuff looked and smelled funny! Apparently he and Mr Bass realized that
there was NO WAY they could compete with the rest of us REAL fisherman.
And judging from that cesspool they were fishing from, it's no wonder...
They also chose not to heed my warnings about the 10' snapper as it
obviously decided to chew up their electric and destroyed their motor mount
while in the stumps. Be thankful, guys, that you got out of there alive!
The snapper obviously wasn't very hungry. And do you belive the garbage that
spewed forth from their mouths???
FLASH: The Legend and Mr Bass LOSE!
FLASH: The Legend and Mr Bass are LOSERS!
For any of you that put bets on them...well P.T. Barnum said "there's
one born every minute!" The Legend will gladly accept phone calls to
extend apologies and to give refunds to those fools that bought T-shirts!
As I expected, Bassin' Bob showed up with his partner, Shawn Scott. I guess
Bob realized that he HAD to show up if he didn't want to be branded a WIMP
forever. I caught Bob sneaking around my boat checking out to see what R/O
and I were fishing. Of course we both had purple firetail worms rigged...
and of course they came OFF as soon as we left! Hey Bob, want my firetails?
Those kibbie-catchers are taking up too much room in my worm box! But, still,
good ole Bob had a respectful showing and was in contention for a while!
Ray Dodier apparently wasn't too successful as they were no tommy cod around
to be caught. Ray...say thank you to Ken for bailing out your team and
taking third place. Nice going, guys!
And DonMac and Brian...(sigh)...this is getting a little boring. I'm also
beginning to wonder about him and his claims of hawgs during the week! Don's
good for some laughs though, as was shown when he pulled up with his brand
new Toyota 4x4 (dented already) towing his barge and trailer that sported
a couple of those driveway reflectors. What's the matter Don, afraid a
snow plow will get ya?? When you're done with the reflectors, Don, please
put them back in my driveway ... OK?
As for Ranger Ron...well, he showed up with Gary Watt and NOT Gary "Back-
Deck-Wizard" Wiersum. RR said TBDW was sick...but I think he was just
plain afraid of having his clocks cleaned! And speaking of cleaning some
clocks...Ron and Gary's Timex squeeks it's so clean. Give them a great
big GOOSE-EGG!
"Lavender" Jack's appearance with "Juicy" Brucey Sheridan certainly added
some color to this fun event. Jack's brandy-new bass rig borders on being
a "shocking-pink"...my eyes still haven't adjusted and I may be color-blind
for the rest of my life! I can't understand why they didn't just tie a hook
to the end of the boat...a lure that color is bound to catch SOMETHING!
Maybe that's exactly what they did to take 4th place. Nice going!
Tom Donovan and Sal Marciano were there bright and early in a real nice
bass rig! See folks....even if you lay out $15K for a rig you can still
get SKUNKED...as was shown by both Tom/Sal and Ron/Gary! Nice boats...
NO FISH!!
Perry Fishless" Faucher and his partner, Steve Smith, managed to boat one
fish keep out of the ranks of the GOOSE-EGGERS! Gee, maybe DonMAc otta
take some lessons from these guys on how to catch a keeper. Are your rates
reasonable, Perry? Give Don a call.
As for R/O and myself, well....we may not have won, or even come close to
winning, but we certainly didn't have to EAT CROW! (whew!) Even the best
laid plans sometimes backfire...
As for the GOOSE-EGGERS, all I can say is that at least you guys showed up
to enjoy the fun! For you NO-SHOW-WIMPS....all I can say is that you missed
a super time. What I want to know is...did George "Mr Bass" LaMarche decide
against competing with Chris "Mr Bass" Ryan?? C'mon George...you certainly
couldn't have faired WORSE than a GOOSE-EGG!! But, as far as I'm concerned,
Chris can keep the name of "Mr Bass"...but it doesn't mean anything as he
certainly didn't prove that he deserves it!
All-in-all...we had a great time. I'm looking forward to the next one!
Now....here's the final standings.

| Yes Folks the LEGEND and Mr. Bass did eat crow! But we were not
the Only morons to get skunked. I Mr. Bass did recieve one good
aspect of the whole disaster, the FAKE Mr. Bass did not even show
and as far as I am concerned, he will no longer have any influence
on my title! It was jealousy and eventual disaster all night long,
it was as if GOD, wanted the LEGEND and Mr. Bass to be humiliated,
they tried swamping the Legendmobile, while we were eating our 10.00$
steaks, that didn't work so they tried swamping us on the way to
the stumps, we got verbally abused all night. The LEGEND total his
transom, and the STRINGER FELL OFF, with our fish! The meadow mouse
got stuck on two enormos tree's and we were out of beer at 7:00
at night.
The sign was the only thing that stayed in one piece. We
were fighting fate as well as getting hammered! Let it be known
that although the LEGEND and Mr. Bass had an ocassional desention
problem, we had some of the best laughs of our lives, in fact the
LEGEND was laughing so hard he didn't realize he was going backwards
at warp factor five when we hit the stump and totaled the transom!
It was nice to see those nice boats, and the turn out, but don't
forget the LEGEND and Mr. BAss are still a team and A FORCE TO BE
RECKONED WITH! I think we will have some shrimp and maybe lobster
on the side next time! Just keep those junk boats out of our
dinning area!
hurt but still here!

| Seems the Legend hit a major nerve,....ha Joe!
You name the time and the place...I'll be there!
I would also like to mention to thoughs who weren't there that Joe
did a nice custom job on his boat. Its all done in blue!!
Now that I think of it...all that was missing was the TIDY BOWL
CLEANER!!
Y O U R B O A T S A T O I L E T !
And you must be the TIDY BOWL MAN!
WE MAY EAT CROW...BUT YOU CAN EAT MY SHORTS!
your just pissed off I didn't offer you a piece of steak!

| HEY, LEGEND...you're only jealous of my custom bass rig! Thanks
for the compliment...but I know that you can't say a good word about
anyone or anything without meaning something else so I'll just ignore
it.
Why...you were even jealous of DonMac's little boat. And it's no
wonder after everyone saw that cesspool you were in. I think we'll
have to give you and Chris new names....ROTO-ROOTER and MR DRAINO!
(I LOVE IT!!)
I'm glad you enjoyed your meal....and thanks for not offering any
to me 'cause I would have refused. What you DIDN'T see was how
much Fish Formula Bassin' Bob DID get on them HA...HA!
Hey...did you ever find out who set your garbage-scow adrift
(heh...heh)? I'm only sorry that you didn't get swamped...someone
would have done a great service to the rest of us!

Legend, I agree with you totally, the only way Joe shoot his
hole, got his boat noticed was to put it in the middle of the ramp!
Even then no one noticed except for a small flock of robins. They
mistook the boat for a giant robin's egg, flew down, landed , smelled
Joe's rotten tuna sandwich his wife made trying to kill him, took
a dump and left. Joe looked over at The LEGEND and Mr. Bass
enjoying there steak and he started eating the bird dung off the
side of the floating egg! Another thing, everytime joe bent over
his stomach hit the scale! I am calling this tourny on a stomach
violation! Either that or Joe needs to lose weight! And bassin Bob
can take his swamp water canoe boat and stuff it! No one attempts
to swamp the Legend and Mr. Bass and gets away with it. Remember
guy's Payback is a mother!

| Isn't is funny what sore losers these guys are!?! It was bad enough
that we had to put up with them and their mouths before the tourney,
now....after a miserable display of a so-called attempt at proving
what great bassers they were, we have to put up with more of their
foul-mouthed crappola in an attempt to try and salvage themselves.
And speaking of salvage...when are you taking your canoe to the
junk yard where it belongs??
Robin's eggs, huh? You're really reaching! What other garbage can
you come up with? Just humor them, folks. I'm sure the people
in white coats will be here any day now to haul them away and put
them where they won't hurt themselves.

I've been reading this dialogue between the "legend of the sawmp"
and the rest of the fishing world and must say that I'll have to
agree with the rest. I couldn't attend this memorable occasion because
I was in the Poconos with the little woman doing a different kind
of fishing. (by the way I didn't get skunked either!!)
I have some first hand experience 'fishing' with the swamp king
and can honestly say you guys have nothing to worry about. Why he
even calls my youngest son for advice. (by the way john, mark told
me to tell you that the end with the hooks goes in the water and
you hold on to the end with the reel. He's sorry he wasn't home
to answer your calls last saturday.) The last time I went with river
rat I had the most enjoyable boat ride I ever had. I think he was
afraid to let me fish for fear of outdoing him.
As far as the 'mount' he has on his wall, Rich's has that box in
the fishing dept with his 'mounts' in there. All you have to do
is sand of 'Fishing in New Hampshire' and you too can have a 'mount'
to hang on your wall.
enuff for now. I'm sure the "Legend of the Swamp" is waiting to
reply.

| Well I knew it was just a matter of time before the MORON of MORONS
got his two cents in! I know what your saying about not striking
out at the Poconos...I didn't either, when I took your wife there!
As for the tourney...at least I showed up! I wish you would stop
showing your jealousy over the fish I have mounted! As for me calling
your son for advise.....give me a break! I talked with him before.
He's wrapped about as tight as you are. The Legend may have a chance
to prove himself again. Joe just left my office. He may put something
together in Sept. Hold on to your ars...here come somemore TIPS!
Joe just stopped by to ask me to stop hammering him...said something
about not having enough witt to counter my attacks on his toilet
boat. I'll lay off him for awhile.
The Legend
Tony..I'll let you know when the next tourney will be so you can
come up with another good excuse!
Why not try this one! " I won't be able to make the tourney because
I'm going to the doctors, to see if
he can remove my head from my ass so I
don't have such a shitty outlook on life"

| Hey, Legend...it doesn't take much witt to contend with a DIMWITT
like you! I only stopped by to offer my condolances and say "better
luck next time"...but I was amazed at what I saw and heard!
Even before I got to his office I heard this sorrowful moaning ...
"Oh...woe is me...(sob...sniff) The Legend blew it again (snort)."
There was kleenex all over the place!! It's a pitiful site to see a
grown man cry...and he hasn't stopped since 10:01 Saturday nite!
I guess I have to have a little pity for the poor fool...
ok...that's enough pity. All I can say to ROTO-ROOTER and MR DRAINO
is...YOU DESERVED IT! Now get your act together and stop wimpering
like babies!

I would just like to send my congradulations to the winners.
Shawn and I made a quick escape to the road so we could get some
sleep. Nice job!!!
As for the big 'L' and mr %ss... next time fish on the other
side of the lake!! every time I saw a bass and moved in for the
kill, this loud stomach turning laugh came from that barge you call
a bass boat!! All I got to say is, if you have to shoot your mouth
off back it up and fish. Don't drink so much beer then blame a
GOOSE_EGG on the fact that you had to much to drink.....
or ran out of drink... and the stringer story is too much...
and trolling is against the rules.
And speeking of beer, the guy that wanted to throw a bottle at me
what happened to him????? Wasn't he the guy calling us crazy for
putting those big boats in that lake. Granted I went by him too
slow and made a big wave but hay I appologized.. No harm done..
Did he catch any fish? did he even return to the weight-in?????
Hay Joe! you sould have tried your fire-tails!!!! The old color-c
called for that color red! Shawn caught one keeper on them and
3 shorts.. He lost one other on a black-firetail that was a big
hog.. You folks don't lie about big fish in that lake.
I caught the bigger ones on black and chartuse! as well as many
pickeral and a cat fish.. would have like to land the bass I snapped
off in the stumps.. It have been a closer race.. Next time I will
use my flipping stick and 20lb mono...
Hay RO I though you said you don't fish at the other end! When
I saw all you folks go that way I thought I made a wrong turn.
Ranger RON! whats new no fish life suchs don't it!
Oh and for don big fish mac!!! thanks for the worm advice.
For any one else I left out because I don't know them... Nice
night of fishing but just too far to drive.
Bassin Bob who was no whimp and came in second to the Best!!!
hay Mr. Bass you know you have to give the winners you title until
next year! They are the REAL MR. BASS
And I guess I was right , "Legend refer to fictitious stories"
acording to the dictionary!

369.172 | IT LOOKS LIKE I HAVE TO SET AN EXAMPLE WITH BOB! | VENOM::WATERS | The Legend of the Lakes | Tue Jul 21 1987 12:00 | 37 |
| Hey...SCUM bag!! I noticed where you parked your barge...right
along side of the Legend! I was also using black with red fire
tail worms. I only had 4 and lost them all to fish and snags!
I was some what unprepared! I hope you can make the next one so
I can kick your ass for spraying my steak with fish formula...
What kind was it..the steak was great!! You also tried to swamp
the Legend in his Legend mobile but failed...just like you failed
to win the tourney!!! And I noticed you didn't mention the tourney
you fished Sunday....you must have been sucking hin-tit on that
one too!! The Legend is down but not out!
And one last question...where in the HELL did you get those SHORTS!
I have a fishing license for Mass. The Legend will come down anytime
you want. We'll go out on that toilet boat of your and I'll show
you how to catch BASS!
I think that everyone one would have caught there limit if you didn't
take a swim...the sludge that came off that grubby body of yours
killed half the population! They are putting up polluted water
signs today up at stump field! Next time you come up North try
taking a bath....We like our clean lakes!!
All in all I had a great time and hope top do ity again. I hope
all of you will take this above infor and know that the Legend is
not one to mess with on the key board. I can cut you down so low
if a ant comes along he'd piss on you! The Legend mobile is going
to be in good working shape again...its just a matter of time.
Hey Bass'in BOB....keep an eye out for ANTS.
Let me know when you want the Legend
to head south.,...BUDDY!

| On the serious side for a moment, putting aside all the funnin', name calling
and mudslinging...I just want to say that it was a real pleasure getting
together and meeting ya'll last Saturday. It has to be one of the most
enjoyable and hilarious evenings I've had in a long time! It's kinda fun
to act like little kids now and then and not feel too foolish doing it!
I know that there might have been a couple of tense moments between a few of
us...but just remember...it was all in fun and in the spirit of pursuing
that elusive hawg!
Although I started this note, I won't make it NOWRITE, but I propose we
close it off (it's really getting big!) and start planning the next one in
note 418.
Thanks to everyone who participated in the tourney and replied to this note
to make this event so successful (and note fun to read!!).

| re:171
The guy that was going to throw a bottle at you was my partner
who managed to land all three of the fish we weighed in (everyone
has an off day once in while).
I wasn't going to say anything but since you already did regarding
the big wakes, let's tell the whole story. The first one (as you
came out) we overlooked. The second one, (when you did the 180) that
hit us immediately after the first, irritated us a little. The third
one which was about 2' high and hit us completely broadside as you
passed within 10' of us was just to much. If it weren't for the
fact that we knew you were in the tourney, there would have been more
done than said. I know that you apologized and that there was no harm
done *this* time, but should it ever happen again, the title of
this note applies.

| Now that all has been said and done I think it's appropriate
that the real winners from this tourney be identified. After fishing
most of this tourney within earshot of John and Chris, aka the Legand
and Mr. Bass, I can safely say that they appeared to have *more* fun
than anyone else. After all, that is supposed to be one of the main
objectives of this sport.
RAYJ
P.S. Catching fish once in a while helps too :-)
