| I don't have any suggestions yet, but a little more info may
be of help in replying. First is that "Brook Trout" fishing
or Brook "trout fishing"? I took it to mean the first. Is there
a specific area in Mass. that you are considering fishing?
What time of the year are we talking about? I expect a lot
of the "give and take" type stocked streams will be delayed
in stocking due to the high water. There are also the ponds
that contain Brookies as well. This info should help for some
people to reply. I know it does me....

I'm not sure where is Mass. you plan on fishing... I know several
small trout streams in the Hudson area, and I would suggest
checking out the Squannocok (sp?) River in Townsend, or the
northern branch of the Swift River (Don't know what town it's
in, west of Gardner - but it's a great trout stream!).
Let me know where in Mass. you plan on fishing and maybe I can
help.
Robert (who may wet a line this season!).

TROUT FISHING
You could try the deerfield river....it's catch-n-release from
the dam to the Hoosack tunnel.....from the hoosack on down it's
catch-n-keep....don't know how it is now after all the rain.....
The Swift river is good also......

| I am sorry for not giving you all the proper information. This is
the first time that I have used the notes file and I was concentrating
on doing the entry rather than a properly worded request. what
we would like to do is try for some good "Brook Trout" fishing in
in pond and lakes here in Mass. We are located in Leominster and
are willing to travel a bit but of course the closer to home the
better.
Thank you all very much for your replies and i look forward to reading
more of the fishing file. Good fishing to everyone.

I live in Hudson, can you tell me where the small streams are, and
directions to them?? Is the streams large enough to flyfish in??
Thanks for your help,

314.9 | Wachusett has good memories for me! | SPMFG1::PARKERJ | | Thu Apr 16 1987 13:45 | 12 |
| Re .7
I've watched them stock the Wachusett at the southwest side. I think
it's rt. 140 that runs alongside the spot. Walk around to the other
side away from the road. The large trout (fish with shiners) are
generally taken on the boylston side (about 1 mile from Tahanto
High School coming from Worcester). There is a small road on the
left you can drive down and park. Then walk about 4-5 blocks to
the cove. The trout spend a lot of time there due to the small
stream the smelt spawn in that runs into the reservoir in the cove.
Good fishing!

314.10 | Danforths and Assabet brooks... | ESPN::NICOLAZZO | Xipe Lives! | Fri Apr 17 1987 13:00 | 29 |
| re: .8
OK - here's 2 :
Danforths Brook - head up Rt. 85 towards Bolton, about 2-3 miles
from Hudson Main St. you'll see a sign on the left (says something
like Danforth Lot - it's town owned land) pull into the dirt
road and the brook is right there. Danforths brook is not very
good for flyrodding (too much brush along the shore).
Assabet brook - head up Rt. 62 towards Stow, about 1 mile from
Rt. 117, you will cross over a bridge. Take a right directly
after crossing the bridge. Follow this road to the end (only
about 1/4 mile) take a right and you are there! (the brook
runs under a bridge right there). This is a VERY nice brook
for fly fishing, there is a field which borders one side of
the brook (really helps with those backcasts!) - brook also
has some nice riffles and pools. I'm a little fond of Assabet
brook, I got my first trout on a dry fly there about 10 years
ago!!
Hope these directions make sense!!
Good luck and good fishing,
Robert.
P.S. - Wear your waders if your going to Assabet brook, the field
is usually flooded!!

314.11 | must be a CARP | JAWS::WIERSUM | | Fri Apr 17 1987 14:45 | 17 |

I did buy that 1/2 dozen shiners and headed for Wachusett.
I set up in what looked like THE Place. After having lost two shiners
to a much too aggresive casting technique, I finally got one place
in just the right local to sit back and drink a beer and WAIT For
the fifteen pound laker. After about 30 min, some guy about forty
feet away hooked on to a biggy. I walked on down (only to stretch
my legs) and watched him pull a really nice fish out of the water.
BTW he was using a surf casting rod with 20#test line.
He says "this aint no laker, I think it's a CARP"!
I almost lost my mind-------this guy hooked into a 3 1/2 to 4#
SMall Mouth. He didn't even know what he had.
That's all folks

Watch out with the frosty ones on wachusett. I got nailed last year
for D.W.F. (drinking wile fishing). I had to go to court and every
thing. You know when they catch you drinking and driving you have
to go to driving school, I was hoping they would send me to fishing
school.

up to the Quinapoxet River every Sunday with some (but not much) luck.
Can we revive this as a "trout fishing" status topic?
