| I vaguely remember someone telling me that they thought you
had to mail in the entry form to enter this tourny. Just so that
everybody knows, not only can you enter the morning of the tourny,
there is also no difference in price.
Last year it snowed the day of the tourny and this person had
already mailed out the entry with the money. He then said if he knew
you could enter the morning of the tourny, he wouldn't have sent in
the form and probably wouldn't have fished that day because the
weather was so bad.
I always plan on fishing at least this tourny every year. It's
probably one of the best family type tourny's you'll ever see. Kids
can enter free and can catch bass, pickeral, and I believe perch
to weigh in. They have all kinds of prizes for the kids. If its
a nice day, the wives can come up around noon and make use of the
barbeque pits for lunch. All in all, it makes for a good day out.

| Judging by the weather forecast (not that it matters much) I
will definitely be going. It's supposed to be sunny and 60+ degrees
on Sunday. This will be my fourth year in this tourney.
The snow may have actually done some good. The black flies were
just starting to come out and with continued good weather, probably
would have been out in force by Sunday. Now they have to start all
over again.
I went to Pawtuckaway last weekend and had decent luck. I managed
to boat 3 and lost 1. The biggest was about 2 lbs.. My friend caught
8. All bass were males and most were about the same size. As usual,
it will probably be quite a bit harder to catch bass on the day
of the tourney. Last year there were over 300 entrants which means
there were 150+ boats.
To any that haven't yet fished this tourney, it is a well run
and organized event. If you manage to be in the top 15 in either
pro, or amateur, you get more than your moneys worth in tackle.
There are good prizes for the kids placing in the top 20 in the
kids division. I believe the top 10 kids get trophies as well all
kinds of tackle.
Last year top prize for pro and amateur was a foot operated
electric trolling motor. They also have door prizes which includes
an LCD usually (among other things).

| Congrat's to Rick Palmer! While the rest of us (don't worry Joe,
Ray, I won't mention any names) got the big goose egg, Rick "read
only" Palmer turned in his limit and won! The only bites I got
were from the black flies, meanwhile Palmer's culling fish....
Look for him at the DEC Tourny, he'll be the one trying to sell
the little Johnson outboard that he won! Since he won a nifty Ranger
jacket too, maybe he'll be selling a whole bass boat!!8^)

| It was soooooo much fun and the fish didn't even bother me all
day. So much for the snow affecting the black flies. They were out
in full force. Luckily, my fishing partner had some Avon skin-so-soft
which does a good job of keeping them from biting. At least it didn't
snow this year. The weather was actually pretty good for a change.
The water however was very cold. To bad, it was just starting to
warm up last weekend.
Using the same method as last weekend (spinner baits in the
brush piles) did nothing. There were quite a few people, including
myself, doing just that. Maybe they fished the previous weekend too.
Talking to Rick, he finally devulged how he did it. I've never
tried fishing like that for largemouths but I will from now on after
a cold front. I'll let him give the details if he wants to.

| Rayj, I was up there Saturday, the day before, and caught fish
on spinnerbaits. I fished a good part of the lake for 4-5 hours
and finally found fish in Fundy. One fish was around 4lbs, the
other ~2lbs... However, these fish were obviously not the norm,
they must have been the aggressive exception to the rule, becuase
I spent most of the day yesterday banging on the same area, with
the same baits, and ZILCH.

| CONGRATULATIONS, RICK! Give the man one big ATTABOY!
Rick not only won the amateur division, but his total weight even
topped the Pro division winner by an ounce! But...if you saw Rick
AFTER the tourney, it looked like he went thru HELL for those bass.
First, he was sporting a black eye and a cut near his eye that he
got struggling with his boat seat the night before. Then, he FORGOT
to bring bug dope so the black flies did a real number on him.
He was covered with bloody bug bites all over his face, ears and
hands. I think he's gonna need a blood transfusion...
So...Rick's the man to beat on the 17th at Monomonac...

| I don't know the exact number but there was around 150-170 fish
caught. Not that many when you consider there was 330 people fishing.
The lunker largemouth was 5 lbs. 11 oz. and the lunker pool
was $396.
Winner in amateur won a small Johnson outboard (2 hp I think)
and the winner in pro got a foot operated electric (don't know the
make). The winner in the youth division weighed in 6 fish at 6 lbs.
13 oz., amateur was 6 fish at 6 lbs. and 14 oz. and pro was 2 fish
at 6 lbs. 6 oz..
The person with the lunker must of had trouble with the livewell
because the lunker appeared to be dead when it was weighed in. They
managed to revive it somewhat but it looked like hell and I don't
think it was going to make it. I don't remember the name of the
person that caught it but he was in the same club (Northern Bass
club or something like that) as the guy who caught last years lunker.
