--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am currently in the process of looking for a boat and am in need
of some information on the BASSTRACKER line of aluminum boats.

Just yesterday, I received the latest BassPro catalog and was suprised
to find that a 16 ft. boat with Hummingbird 2000, tiller mounted
trolling motor, 20 HP tiller steer motor, trailer, etc..... was
only around $4000. This seems like quite a deal from what I have
been seeing in the local MA. boat stores.

Can anyone provide me with information about the quality of these
    boats?

    Thanks........... Bob

    RE:0
I would take a trip down to Green's Marine on Rt. 28 in Hookset
first. One thing BassPro doesn't stress to much is the cost of
transporting the rig. From what I understand, this can run into
    some considerable $.
If you have the full or sale catalog it will list the specs on the
size, weight, metal type, and metal thickness. You can use these specs
to compare against the Sea Nymph line carried by Green's Marine.
Green's Marine also sells complete rigs like BassPro at comparable prices.
    They are also alot closer.
Another supposed good place to check out boats is Doug Russels
(sp?) on Rt. 20 in Worcester. He is supposed to be a very high volume
outfit and can probably meet or beat any price you give him.

be very carfull about putting any money down on a boat at Doug
Russels.. My brother in law did this to hold a deal for over night
thinking and when he decieded not to by, they would not refund his
money!!!! He lost 100 bucks to these people. When he put the money
down,it was dicussed what he was to do to get the money back if
he did not go with deal. He was told "no problem, just send a registered
letter and your money will be returned to you". What a bunch of
cr*p. He went to the owners and was told "no way are you getting
    that money back.

The place has just changed hands, but the same salsmen are still
    there.... Be carefull!

For exactly THAT reason, I always use either a check or credit card
for down payments. You can easily stop payment on the check within
a couple of days, and if you write to Visa or MasterCard and explain
the situation and tell them you refuse to pay the bill, the retailer
    will be charged back.

    Re:2
This is a very old ploy used by any and all salesmen. I learned
of this at an early age and as Joe said, use a check or credit card.
If they insist on cash, I would tell them to stuff it sideways and
    walk out.
I had an instance where I even had it in writting on a sales
agreement that the deposit would be %100 refunded if I changed my
mind for any reason. When I changed my mind, they would not honor
    their own agreement.

297.6Bass Tracker dealGENRAL::INDERMUEHLEThu Mar 26 1987 13:5925
To get back to the original topic, Bass Tracker

I also just received the new catalog and it realy sparked my interest.
I called my nearest Bass Tracker dealer, which is in Pueblo, Co.
to find out how Bass Pro would work the arrangements. I wanted to
know if I placed an order to Bass Pro, if they would in turn send
me to my local dealer. Yes this is what would happen. In talking
with the Pueblo dealer, Outboard Marine, in my case and they asked
me why I wanted to order from Bass Pro, when the could give me the
same price and deal as from Bass Pro. Here are the figures:

    Pro-16	$4990.00
    Shipping 350.00 to Colorado
    Prep 145.00
    Registration 10.00 1st year

Doesn't look bad for something that I can drive away from the dealer,
    gas-up and start fishing in.

Now all I got to do in convince the Little Lady, that I.....er,
    WE.... can't live without it.

Of course you could do what I did...

If you just happen to have $5K+ stashed awy that she doesn't know
about, go ahead and buy it...then tell her you WON it in a contest!

Granted, I only bought ANOTHER rod 'n reel outfit for about $70...but
if the Ole Lady found out I SPENT the $$$...she'd go APE-SH*T!

I guess tha's what happens when you don't have a wife that understands

297.10Basstracker's my choice!TIGGER::NOYESTue Mar 31 1987 14:5014
Since the subject of Basstrackers is here I can tell you this. I
purchased the Tournament V17 a year ago from Bass Pro shops and
it's been great. This was about two months before they started the
local dealer network. The cost to ship it directly to me in marlboro
was $750.00 and the prep charge was $45.00. By the time it was all
done I still saved myself roughly $1,500.00 over anything I could
buy from a local marina in this area. I've taken this boat out on
many different lakes including lake Ontario and all I can say is,
they are very reliable, well built, stable, and I would buy a
    Basstracker again.

By the way, Doug Russell's is the area dealer..

297.12Marine U.S.A......nowTORA::SCHOLZRon....and thanks for all the fishWed Apr 01 1987 11:2917
Doug Russels is now Marine U.S.A., or USA Marine....I cant' keep
it straight. Whatever, it is now under new owership and there are
some new people there, but most of the old ones, that gave the place
its bad rep are still there. There has been some house cleaning,
but most of it in the parts and yard personnel.

The place no longer handles Ranger Boats, and now only sells Bass
Tracker. You can get a good deal if you are willing to work for
it and there is a complete selection of all the boats on the lot.
If anyone is interested, I can supply you a name so you won't get
scr**ed to bad....:^) Russel was the kind of guy you had a love
hate relation with......the new company, I dont' know. They still
have top prices on all their parts, but they will deal on props
or other large ticket items (I was quoted 10-20% off).

Good luck and tight lines, Ranger Ron

I have got an offer of $400.00 for boat and trailer only! If your
friend would like the entire package about $600 would be nice.
tell him to make me an offer fast. I was about to let it go to
    the other guy.

I ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH DOUG RUSSELLS. I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW OUTDRIVE
FOR MY BOAT. IT CAME WITH A ONE YEAR GAURANTEE THROUGH DOUG RUSSELLS.
ONE YEAR AND ONE WEEK LATER IT BROKE DOWN. I TRIED TO GET DOUG RUSSELLS
TO BACK IT UP. BUT THE GAURANTEE HAD ENDED ONE WEEK EARLIER AND
THEY WOULD NOT HELP ME. JUST BEWARE!

One of the guys at Marine USA is a member of our club (Wayside Bass).
His name is Alan Helfgott. He is really up the entire Tracker/Nitro
line, and he's always taken good care of anyone I've sent up there...

So far the Legend of the lakes and I working with USA
Marine about purchasing a couple of Bass Tracker boats. If anyone
else has been thinking about this, then we can all get together to
bargain. According to the Legend, "The bigger the buying group, the
better our bargaining power." So go ahead and take a look and ask
some questions, but don't mention anything about group buying. We'll
get together and pull a whamy on them. And we'll all make out swell!
