Last fall a friend took me Blue fishing for the first time,I caught
a ten pounder,what a fight!I have been turned into a fanatic about
the sport, and I am looking for some places in the New England area
to fish for the mighty Blues. I live in RI. and will travel most
any place to get the fight that I had with my first Blue.

Point Judith R.I. is one of the best blue areas in New England
check the paper or phone book for charters. Thre are bluefish
charters in the summer all up and down the coast. For surf fishing,
check the Friday Globe or Herald in the summer.

Not to be redundant, but .1 is right on the money. I fish
out of Pt. Judith all summer. I have a boat and fish the Block
Island waters. Fishing blues from shore is a "being in the right
place at the right time" situation as they are fast movers chasing
bait fish. The Squirrel and I believe Blue Herron II (new) do night
fishing for blues starting around mid-July. It's about $29. They
leave about 6PM and get back around 1 or 2AM. I have also seen
other head boats out at the grounds during the day. Hellcat II,
a head boat out of New London, also a catamaran design, is out there
very often during August and September. I believe the Pt. Judith
head boats use bait, but jigs are very effective later in the summer.
They probably use bait because it is at night. I don't know if
jigs are too visible 50' down at night. Anyway if you want to fish
from shore, the rocks off of Hazzard Ave. in Narragansett is a good
place as well as the East and West wall of the Pt. Judith breakwater,
and a place called Deep Hole fishing area just west of the Jerusalem
area is also good. If you want to give me a call, my number is
in the DEC phone book. I would be glad to give you all the information
that I know about the area.
