I can't pass that chance up;^)
Does anyone have the program schedule yet?? I was wondering who

228.13 | Centrum directions? | AIMHI::TOMAS | Joe | Tue Jan 27 1987 08:15 | 8 |

228.14 | CENTRUM directions | DELNI::DICKEY | | Tue Jan 27 1987 09:09 | 49 |
|
I don't know the exit numbers, and there are actually several
exits you can take, but here is one (straightforward) way.
When you come in on 290, as you come into Worcester, you climb
a long hill then turn ninety degrees to the left. As you make the
turn you can see downtown Worcester. At this point, 290 merges
with 190 and there are 4 or 5 lanes. When the road makes this
left turn, be right, and get over to the right hand lane after
the merge.
Take the first exit you come to after the merge. I think the sign
says 'To Route 9'. When you come to the bottom of the ramp, turn
Right. This road will curve to the Left then straighten out. Keep
on this road through about 5 sets of lights (close together). The
road will end facing the Galleria. The Centrum will be on the Right.
I don't know about other Centrum parking, but you could park in
the Galleria underground lot by taking a left (at the Galleria)
and getting in the Right lane. There is a parking enterance a short
way around.
If you miss this first exit off 290, you can take either of the
next two exits. The Centrum will still be on the right of the highway
and I beleive there are signs.
Have fun!

228.17 | show feedback | AIMHI::TOMAS | Joe | Fri Jan 30 1987 08:26 | 28 |
| The show was good...Doug Hannon was GREAT! This guy is called the
"Bass Professor"...and he's a walking encyclopedia of info! And
he can't be more than 28-30 years old. Amazing!
His seminar was a Q & A format. When he asked for questions from
the audience, I heard this "ooh...ooh...me...me..." from the crowd.
There was this guy, jumping up and down in his seat wanting to ask
the first question, so Doug called on him.
"I keep losing bass after bass when I tie a plastic worm on my line.
What do you suggest?"
To which Doug replied, "Well...you have to keep the hook real SHARP!"
The guy then said...."oh...you need hooks???"
Fellow fisherman, I had the pleasure to meet, the one...the only...
RANGER RON SCHOLZ!
(sorry Ron...I had to make a dig...)
On the serious side....it was a real pleasure to meet Ron, Gary
and Gary and go out for a few beers after the show to talk about
things that are near and dear to our hearts....BASSIN! We gotta
do it again.

228.18 | show review | HPSCAD::WHITMAN | boves::whitman MRO1 297-4898 | Fri Jan 30 1987 08:45 | 26 |
| Got to agree the show was good. I couldn't stay for Hannon's
presentation, but the Fishing with SONAR presentation put on by Doug
Wilbur taught me a lot more about my LCR and my future flasher than I'll
ever use.
I was surprised to see and talk with Danny Corriea in the Lowrance
booth. There didn't seem to be too many people that knew who he was. Seems
like a real nice guy, but what else would you expect from a BASS fisherman?.
I couldn't believe the crowd in there at 4pm. Lot's of good
displays but no bargains to speak of. Also noted a lack of bass boats.
Driscoll had some CAJUN's and Evinrude had a few various boats (there was
one other dealer that I can't remember who brought LASERs).
Last Monday I called Bucko's in Fall River for some reel parts
I needed and they were kind enough to bring them up to the show for me.
If any of you need reel parts, you might do the same. (617-674-7900)
I was a little disappointed in that I was lookin' for some
buzz bait 'blades' and I couldn't find any. Did anybody else happen to
notice them around?
Over all for 5$ ($3 to get in and $2 to park) it was a good show.
I'm going back again tonight with the Mrs.

jacket that Quantum was giving away with their rod and reel combos...
Hannon was great. I also enjoyed the Wilbur's sonar seminar. I
enjoyed the expo. I agree on the no tackle deals though, I didn't
come across any exceptional tackle deals. Although it looks like Bass
Bust'n Fletch got quite a deal on his nifty flyrod.
We didn't get our hands on any bass, but at least we got a few Bass
Ales! Don Mac _yawn_

Look out Lefty Kreh. I'm gonna try it for bass this year...heh heh
Should be some sight. Me up in the bow flailing away...Holeshot

And Ron, you're right. Joe doesn't even have a trolling motor on

I Have to agree that "young Doug" does appear to know everything
there is to know about bass ect. I was very impressed and entertained.
My feeling regarding the show are-- yeh, ok the same displays, same, same
I really saw nothing that "knocked my sox off".
To me the best part was listening to Ranger Ron and Holeshot trying
to out lie each other. Don mack and I just kicked each other under
the table and said Oh shit here comes another one!
Oh, by the way, as far as bargains...and buzz bait blades go--
I bought a $3.00 "grab bag" from this lady who had standing racks
of buzz baits (all sizes). She probably has parts. I can't remember
if it was north or south of the beer stand. Ranger Ron would know.
and the grab bag was a good deal, an assortment of all the things
you can't live without. no kiddin i recomend the $3.00 grab bag.
Hell, you can fish 10 people off Rons Ranger as long as long as
8 of you don't mind stayin in the middle of the boat.

| Well...although I almost bought a rod 'n reel at the show...I finally
did it. Just picked up Qunatum's new Transmitter rod (6.5') and
a Quantum QMG-20 spinning reel. A well balanced outfit...PLUS,
I still get a Quantum jacket out of the deal. SO GUYS...I did it!
(I told the ole lady that I won them at the show so she wouldn't
think I spent more $$$ on tackle.)
BTW...for those of you that saw the new Interphase CRT sonar/depth
finder at the show, Zyla's in Merrimack NH is selling the top end
model # 20/20 for $350! Northern Bass Supply was asking $397.
The resolution of that thing is absolutely amazing. It's now gonna
be a real touch choice between an Eagle Z-6100 for about $275 and
the Interphase. For those of you that are planning to buy an LCR
in that price range, I'd suggest you take a look at the Interphase
first.

228.26 | <<< NOW THIS IS A RIG >>> | GENRAL::KROMER | Jack | Thu Feb 05 1987 09:29 | 24 |
| Denver just had a RV show and introduced the "Boaterhome". Called
the Sport King Boaterhome. It is a "plushy appointed motorhome
and 28' cabin cruiser. It consists of 2 elements or units. One
is a road cab with a Ford chasis and 460 engine with a long, low,
rear extension platform that is the bed on which the living quarters-
cabin cruiser rests. The bow of the cruiser noses up snug inside
the cab. When the vehicle reaches the water it simply backs into
the water and releases the cruiser, powered by a 260 HP
inboard-outboard. There is no trailer or trailer hitch thus no tricky
trailer-backing problems (I think I read about a trailer problem
or two earlier in here :^))) ). Don't laugh too hard the designer
came up with the slide in camper for pickups and the cab-over concept.
***********
The price a pittance--------------- $92000.00* (And i don't know
the options) ***********
They had a picture with the article in the Denver Post.

228.27 | Hummingbird 4 ID ? | ARMORY::CUZZONES | Fresh from your grocers freezer | Thu Feb 05 1987 15:46 | 5 |
| We haven't had our outdoors show out here in WMass yet so I'm curious
if anybody saw the Humminbird LCR that shows fish in red. Is this
a gimmick or is this a useful innovation?

|
228.28 | not impressed with 4 ID | AIMHI::TOMAS | Joe | Thu Feb 05 1987 16:33 | 32 |
| Yeah, we saw it at the Centrum and I wasn't the least bit impressed!
Although it displays red dots on the screen, they are EXTREMELY
difficult to see! And on top of that, Hummingbird, for who knows
what logical reason, elected to polarize they screen such that you
must view the screen from below rather than above to get a clean
view in direct sunlight. OK, I guess, if you want to mount it on
the roof of a cabin. The Lowrance and Eagle LCRs offer superior
screen resolution (more pixels) and functionality for the money.
BTW...if you haven't seen it yet, make sure to take a good look
at the Interphase units. They use a 5" amber CRT with video
monitor-type resolution. Outstanding, in fact! They have two models,
the 200 and the 20/20. The 20/20 (top-o-the-line) will display
up to 1500', displays grey line (or amber), multiple intensities,
has zoom, plus their triducer (not transducer) provides surface
temperature and spped. The CRT digitally displays the depth, surface
temp, boat speed (knots) and nautical miles traveled as well as
LCR style graphics for bottom.
The model 200 has the same basic features except no speed, temp
or distance features. Northern Bass Supply sells the 20/20 for
$397 and the 200 for about $325, however, Zyla's in Merrimack, NH.,
has the 20/20 for $350. Both units include a sun shade as, unlike
the LCRs, might be a little difficult to see in direct sunlight.
On the other hand, for those of us that fish at night, it is highly
visible and requires no backlighting.
They're worth taking a look at...a little pricey perhaps, but if
you're considering dropping $250+ on an LCR, it might be worth going
a little more.

| Wound up going to the outdoor show instead of going fishing.
This is the first one I ever went to in Manchester and I can see
I wasn't missing much. I went to see if I could get a filet knife
at a decent price but as already mentioned, I've seen better prices
and selection at K-mart. I'm suprised Zyla's wasn't there or if
they were, they weren't really advertising it.
I did pick up some plastic worms at a good price. I got 2 packs
of 100 6" flat tail worms. Flat tail worms are harder to come by
these days as everyone seems to be pushing the curly tail worms.
Anyway, they were $3.00 per 100. I also picked up some Fat Gitzits
but at $1.40 a pack, these didn't seem to be any bargain.
I went downstairs for a seminar on jig fishing. Didn't really
learn anything new. He did get me to buy a pack of Gitzits though.
This guy claims he's had good luck with smallmouths on them. He
also said that he spends 70% of his time jig fishing. Maybe this
year I'll give it more of a chance.
I will say one thing about the show, it did get the old bass
fishing fever going again.

I went there last year and I thought the show in Springfield was as

228.42 | One more show til spring | ARMORY::CUZZONES | The jerk on the dry end | Wed Mar 11 1987 09:56 | 15 |
| For those of you who still haven't made it to a fishing/sportsmans
show yet and need a fix that will hold you til ice-out, there is
a fishing boat expo in Hartford at the civic center this week starting
today or tomorrow (3/11 or 3/12) and lasting through sunday, I believe.
The featured guest speaker is Mark Sosin who will appear saturday.
The expo is advertised as a fishing show but since it is sponsored
by the Conn. assoc. of marine dealers, I've gotta believe it will
feature more boats than tackle and looks to be salt water oriented.
Even though it's only been a week since the Springfield show, I'll
be going tomorrow night. The tax refund check came this week and
it looks like enough for a down payment :-).

228.43 | fishing boat show in Boston | HPSCAD::WHITMAN | Acid rain burns my BASS | Mon Oct 12 1987 08:59 | 22 |

I read in the Worcester Evening Gazette on Friday (10-9-87) there
is a Sportfishing Boat Show in Boston from Oct 22nd thru Oct 25th. 250 boats
from 80 manufacturers from 8' inflatables to 42' offshore rigs.
It went on to say that New England is the largest market in the country
for bass boats at the moment and there will be over 20 brands of Bass Boats
being displayed. Displays will also include tackle, electronics, free-bee
seminars and lots of other stuff related to fishing.
The show is open
noon to 10pm Thurs & Fri,
10am - 10pm Saturday,
10am- 6pm on Sunday.
Admission is $5 for adults,
$3 for kids 6-12,
FREE for kids under 6
The piece I cut out doesn't say where in Boston, but I'll find out.

228.50 | | XCUSME::WATERS | The Legend of the Lakes | Wed Jan 30 1991 14:20 | 8 |
| I don't think it's worth the ride north. It's very small and not
many deals to be had. If you've got nothing better to do...go.
It will take all of 15 minutes to view the whole thing. I haven't been
up there in 2 years so they may have expanded.

| Although the NH expo cannot campare to the woosta expo, it's not
a bad way to spend a saturday afternoon. And some deals can be
found. Last year I wound up buying a flippin' stick from zyla's that
had been marked down quite a bit. Zyla's often has some good deals.
I'll probably be spending a 2-3 hours there on Saturday.

228.54 | quit moving the *&^$%@ Notes!! | CGVAX2::VACHON | | Wed Jan 30 1991 16:51 | 19 |
| Let me try this again.. I repsonded once already but by the time I hit
ctrl Z the note was moved!!
I went there about three years ago and ended up buying a 14' Sea-Nyph.
I don't really remember what they had for deals on fishing equipment
but they seem to have a decent selection on different items. But like
the Legend said I wouldn't drive a long way to go there!
Just a side note, While I was there it was during the presidential
campaign. When all of the sudden all these secret service guys with
sun glasses come in and George Bush was behind them. So I yelled
"hey George"!! he came over and shook my hand and we talked about
fishing for a few minutes. Little did I know this guy was going to
be the world leader that he is today!
Just think, Dukakis could be handling this mess now!! (scarey!!)

| Gee, I don't know about the Firehouse. Sure, it DOES have Bass ale,
sure, it's right around the corner, and sure it's the best place in
Worcester to look at "foxes" (plus, if you don't like it, there's a
cheap "bum bar" called Moynagh's right next door). Maybe the Firehouse
makes too much sense...
I vote for the Firehouse. Otherwise, I'll just go to the new (and
GREATLY improved) "Pudgie's" afterwards and watch TND.

| There is also a place on Main St. (it is fairly close to the Centrum)
that serves Bass Ale. I dont remember the name of it but there is a
fluorescent Bass Ale sign that drew me into the place.
Stop there for a few Basses then to Pudgy's to see some ___es! :^)

| re: bar hopping in Worcester
Reminds me of "the walk." A tradition at my fraternity at WPI. Start at the
far end of main street and have a beer at every bar that's either on main street
or can be seen from main street. By the time we hit the firehouse, .... whew!
The funny part was since it was a well established tradition, the bars all knew
we were coming and we were given a cordial reception. ;-)
Drinking and walking is ok. No driving, please.
