172.1 | Ranger V and Megabucks! | TURBO::MIKRUT | | Fri Aug 22 1986 17:25 | 9 |
| If it were me, and I won megabucks, I'd go with the Ranger V.
It'll get you from here to there in no time at all, comfortable
as all hell and very dependable. I'm sure that all those other
boats you listed are superior, also. But since I don't have a
Ranger V cause I didn't win megabucks yet, I'm totally satisfied
with my little 13' Jon boat.

172.2 | Ranger = Quality and then some... | TORA::SCHOLZ | Ron....and thanks for all the fish | Tue Aug 26 1986 15:51 | 40 |

There's no comparsion when it comes to QUALITY between a Ranger
and most other boats. You pay for, that's for sure, but you can
get the smaller Rangers like the 320 (16') for a reasonable amount.
A lot of buying a boat is the decision about how long you are going
to keep one. If its' for a few years and then a trade up or down,
stay away from the Rangers and like boats. If you are going to make
an investment that is going to last you the normal course of your
fishing life, then I would really recommend this type of boat. The
Ranger isn't the only type of bass/ski boat around that costs $12k
plus, but it does have the "rep" for being the first among equals.
Since I went out and bought one, after having owned a smaller one,
I will admit to being a little one-sided when it comes to comparsions.
However, it is easier to justify the expense when you think in terms
of years. I looked at the Stratos and others, but kept coming back
to the Ranger. I can't help but think of it as the Rolls Royce of
boats. You can buy a Cadi or BMW (name your comparison) and be very
happy, or go with the Pro Bass 1710 and also enjoy it. A lot of
this is going to depend on how much you are going to use it and
how dependable you want your boat to be "over the years".
The other thing is, you can always buy a used Ranger and still get
the quality, but not spend more than you would for a new less quality
boat. Have your cake and eat it too ;^)
There is one thing that my Ranger gives me that I really don't need
in New England, and that is the speed. There just aren't that many
lakes around here that call for all the speed she has. Getting across
a lake in 2 minutes or 5 really is out of place around here, but
when I go to the south with it, it does matter. The HUGE lakes there
are what this boat is made for (plus tournaments). Same for other
boats that have big engines on them and can do 60+ mph. In New England
you can very easily get by with a 50-75 hp engine and smaller boat.
Owning a Ranger here, is much more a ego trip than one of practicality.
(until they open the Quabbin;^)

172.3 | LOA plus trailer, plus O/B or out-drive. | EUREKA::REG_B | Bicycle break-dancer | Thu Aug 28 1986 14:01 | 10 |

Remember too that a 16 - 17ft boat can become 20 - 21ft with
its trailer tongue and outboard, something to think about if you
have limited garage space. I/Os are a little worse than O/Bs in
this respect, unless you remove the final drive for storage.

172.5 | BASSTRACKER TOURNAMENT V17 | ANT::NOYES | | Tue Sep 02 1986 15:32 | 16 |
| AL,
I JUST BOUGHT A BASSTRACKER TOURNAMENT V17 THIS YEAR AND IN
ALL HONESTY, I THINK IT WAS MONEY WELL SPENT. I SHOPPED AROUND AT
THREE OF THE AREA BOAT SHOWS AND I COULDN'T FIND AS MUCH BOAT FOR
THE SAME PRICE ANYWHERE. WHEN I CALLED THE ORDER IN TO THE FOLKS
AT BASS PRO SHOPS I WAS REALLY SURPRISED AT JUST HOW HELPFULL THEY
ALL WERE. WITH ALL THE FISHING I'VE DONE SO FAR THIS YEAR, THIS
BOAT HASN'T LET DOWN. IN FACT, JUST THIS LAST WEEKEND I HAD IT IN
LAKE ONTARIO TROLLING FOR KING SALMON, AND I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT
I WAS SURPRISED HOW WELL SHE HANDLED IN THAT BODY OF WATER.
I GUESS WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY IS, RANGERS ARE NICE BUT I'D RATHER
HAVE A BASSTRACKER... SORRY RON.\

172.6 | <Bass Boats on Display> | HPSCAD::WHITMAN | boves::whitman MRO1 297-4898 | Thu Jan 08 1987 08:25 | 14 |
| For those in the Worcester, Ma. area looking for a BASS boat, the
Worcester Boat show at the Centrum has more bass boats on display than you
can shake your rod at. There are displays of Ranger, Bass Tracker, MonArk,
Starcraft, Blue Fin, and about 20 other manufacturers there. Unlike last year
when there were just a handful of bass boats, this year they are all over the
place. Not much in the way of accessories for boats, skis, fishing gear, or
electronics, but there were lots of engines, and fishing boats on display.
The show runs thru Sunday, Jan 11 and the admission is $5 for adults
& $2 for kids.
Looking at all those boats this time of year got me so excited I
couldn't get to sleep last night thinking about ICE OUT !!!!! It was great.
