163.0. "Westboro Speedway Pond (Whats the story?)" by GRAMPS::LASKY () Tue Aug 05 1986 13:25

My name is Bart Lasky and I read this note file ofen but rarely
write. I fish as ofen as possible with my flyrod and have gone
to some of the ponds mentioned here to flyfish for Bass.

I'm writing because of some of the things that have been mentioned
about the pond behind the Westboro speedway, what I call "stump
pond". First someone mentioned that the fishing there was good.
I went there and could not agree more, now I read that I catch
so many fish there because they all GLOW with pollution!!! Can
someone out there give me the real story once and for all.

    				Thanks,

    				Bart Lasky

I'll try and give this a shot as I see it.

There are "two" ponds being talked about here. One is the A1A Site,
which is the one with all the dead trees in it on the south/southwest
side. It has a small dam located at the northern end. This pond
is fine and not a problem. Yes it's behind the speedway, but way
behind it. It's closer to hwy 30 than hwy 9 (where the speedway
is) and "on/off" Mill Road, or Old Mill Road or still Mill Pond
Road. I have heard it called all of these. The street sign reads
Mill Road as you turn off hwy 30 in Westboro.

The other pond mentioned is H********** and is both smaller and
not on Mill Road for one thing. Since I never fish it, I don't
    worry about it.

So Bart, if the one you are fishing is loaded with 300 arces of dead
trees, you are okay. The "good" pond is 325 acres in size with a
dirt ramp for cartops on the east side on Mill Road.

Hope this helps. Tight lines, Ron

    Bart,

The pond which SHOULD NOT BE FISHED is called Huccumka (sp).
It is the first pond on the right after Astra plant an Ottis Rd.
This pond is marked very well with big signs stating its polluted
    state.

The pond you fish is on Mill Road its offical state name is
the A1A site. The locals call it MIll road pond. I started the
note on it a long time ago. There is nothing wrong with the fish
and the water. The dark water is from the dead trees.

May people who have SOME knowledge of the area right away think
this pond is Hucomauck when you tellthem it is behind westboro Speed
way. But rest asurred its ok to fish.

If it is polluted tell that to the hundreds of poeple who ice fish
    it weekly during the winter.

    Good luck
    Bassin' Bob
