| Ron,
I just spoke w/Bob about our NH tourney. I like your ground rules
and I see no reason why we can't use them as well.
Couple of questions....
Bob indicated that payoffs were as a team (2 per boat)...what about
the lone participant??
What did you envision as a payoff structure...for total weight and
largest bass? I thought about a a 70/30 split where 70% of the
pot went to the single person with the heaviest stringer (limited
to 5 fish) and 30% to the person with the largest bass...one person
able to win both. Bob mentioned something about payoffs for the
top 5 boats...I don't think the "pot" will really be big enough
to support that.

| I'm sure that now that the lake is selected most if not all, of
you are going to get there to "practice" a bit, if you haven't already
done it (I was there Sat. and noticed some "others" :^)
I have a suggestion, and if you agree, to make this more fun. It
would be very easy for some (of us) to go over to the lake on Sat.
before the tournament and get in some practice hoping the conditions
won't change by Sun (not that they won't in this area). This would
be a little unfair to the rest who can't do this. So, here is the
suggestion. Put the lake off-limits for two days (Fri & Sat) before
the tournament. That way no one should have an avantage, and the
out of state/area guys would have just the same problem as the
locals in finding the pattterns. Sound good???? (the pros do it)

This is the list as of today folks. We still have 3 non-boaters
without partners. So if you people know of anyone who has a boat
and wants to fish or even if they don't want to fish lets get them
involved. We don't want to leave anyone on shore!!! so lets get
going.
As for the RULES: lets make it official. The lake is
OFF LIMITS TO ALL ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY before
the great event.
Also It will remain a team open. Since each man can keep 5
fish, so with as limit of ten fish perboat CULLING (SP?) should
not be a problem.
- It is required that some for of live well be used. Ie a coller
in the smaller boats with the water changed often will be ok. This
is a catch and release tournament.
We will not penalize for dead fish, unless Its a live fish being
brought home. You have to release all live fish.

| We will use standard mass rules.
1) For the size requirement it is 12in closed mouth to closed tail.
Meaning you can pinch the tail closed and get about a 10th of an
inch more.
2) large or small mouth. Manchuag has some very good smallies
in it is you want to spend the time to find them. A friend took
one 5lbs even this year.

| The results of the First Annual N.H. Bass Bustin' Bash are posted
in note 147.60.
Just to summarize the event, it was a rather cool and drizzly day
with only 9 hearty souls showing up. The winner was Mike Haywood,
a non-DEC partner of Keith Dilsworthy. Mike nailed a 20", 4.25
lber plus 1.5 lber to make it a clean sweep for both the largest
bass and the total weight caught.
A total of 8 legal bass (12"+) were registered, totaling 13.75
pounds. At least 8-10 under 12" bass were thrown back.

| Yeah, Ron...I guess I could go for a tourney in May as long as it
doesn't conflict with the BassMaster's event at Pawtuckaway. Anyone
know the dates for that one yet?
I had planned on staging a NH event in May and then one in the late
summer with the idea of having a MA/NH fish-off in the early fall.
But if everyone is up for an early MA/NH tourney in May, I'm up
for it.
One thing to keep in mind, though, is that NH has a 2 bass limit
during the spawning season. I'm not certain as to what the dates
are, but I think it runs thru till the end of May. What restrictions
and rules govern waters that bound two states?
If the 2 bass rule is in effect, we'll only be able to keep two
at a time and cull from those two until a noon-time (or so) weigh-in.
Then, release those and go for two more.

| Ron,
According to the "New Hampshire Fishing Maps" book, Lake Monomonac
is governed by Mass regulations. But anyway, the NH 2 fish limit is
in effect from May 1 - June 30.
For those unfamiliar with Monomonac (myself included) it's a 425
acre lake with a max depth of 23' on the Rindge, NH and Windchendon
Mass border. Average ice-out is in late April.

154.25 | Anyone else for Lunkers | HPSCAD::WHITMAN | boves::whitman MRO1 297-4898 | Wed Mar 11 1987 08:51 | 21 |
| Maybe I'm all wet, but due to the SPAWN kill possibilities, OUR
dedication to CATCH & RELEASE, and general conservation of the fish, how does a
LUNKER tournament sound. What I mean is, as a team, you only keep one fish in
your livewell and the lunkers of the day take it all. My concern comes from
pulling a sow off her nest and then releasing her in a different part of the
lake where she does not have a safe nest already set up. I'm told pulling the
males who guard the nest off is just as bad.
This will release any fish smaller than what you already have in the
same spot you caught it. It also carries the spirit of the 2 fish limit a
little farther (sets an example???) in that instead of a boat bringing 4 fish
to weigh-in it will just bring in 1. One tends to brag more on the lunkers
than the number of fish anyway.

| So what's the concensus??
As I see it, here's our current options:
1. Hold a joint NH/MA tourney in May and:
A. 2-fish limit with noontime weigh-in, release, and then go
for 2 more, making it a 4-fish tourney.
B. As Al suggested in .25, go for a single "HAWG" to minimize
spawn kill.
2. Let each state have their own tourney(s) [spring & summer] and
hold the joint tourney in the early fall.
3. Wait until early June for the joint NH/MA tourney when we have
a full 5-bass limit.
Any other options? Who wants what?

Bass'n Bob mentioned that idea about the single fish weigh in on

Last year's MMA tourney was a team event and the NH was a individual

The Pepsi Cola Classic at Milton Three Ponds may be the weekend
following the Pawtuckaway tournament. Last year they had them both
on the same day and I like the Pawtuckaway one much better.
I would prefer to have the DEC tournament after the Pawtuckaway
one. The weather that time of year is usually a little better. It's
not that I'm a fair weather fisherman but that I'll probably be
doing some salmon/trout fishing in April.
To nail it down to a date, how about the last weekend in May,
preferably the 30th which is a Saturday ?
As far as team fishing, it doesn't matter to me but I'd say
go for at least a two fish per boat minimum, not one.

154.35 | Settle the NH vs MA issue | AIMHI::TOMAS | Joe | Thu Mar 12 1987 08:21 | 17 |
| How does this idea sound.
Each state holds two tourneys, one in the spring or early summer
and one in the late summer. Then, we hold the combined NH/MA tourney
in the early fall on Mononamac open to all. But, on the side,
the 6 "best" fisherman from each state form a 6-man team and compete
against each other in the combined tourney. No additional fees
would be required from the 6-man teams (unless, of course, they'd
like to make it more interesting). The winning team would then
be "crowned" the reigning champs for the year. We could even go
a step further and require the losing team treats the winners to,
say, free drinks at the local pub.
BTW...this wasn't my idea. Rick Palmer suggested it yesterday but
was afraid to put his 2 cents worth in here. I like it.

| WHERE IS THIS PLACE? Rindge NH, Winchendon Mass border
HOW BIG IS THE LAKE? 425 acres
WOULD A ELECTRIC MOTOR BE ANY GOOD THERE? I've never fished it
but I'm sure if stick to the edges and coves you'd be fine.
IS ANYONE GOING IN CANOES OR IS IT A BIG BOAT SPECIAL? Judging
from last years tournaments, they'll be everything from canoes to
rangers to center consoles
WILL A SMALL BOAT BE SWAMPED BY WATER SKIERS? I wouldn't worry
about the waterskiers on May 17th, but have you ever seen the aftermath
of a 150hp Ranger's holeshot? But don't worry, we'll have seperate
starts for the smaller boats. A canoe will be fine.

Lake Monomonac is off Rt 202 in Winchendon, Ma/Ringe, NH. The ramp is just on
the NH side of the state line,Valley Marine. The lake is 529 acres. The max
depth in 19' with the majority of the lake being 5-15 ft. It appears from the
Mass Fish & Wildlife map that the lake is about 2 1/2 miles long and roughly a
1/2 mile wide. Last year's tournament had everything from Ron's Ranger to
Don's STUMP JUMPA to canoes. The ramp is at the shallow end of the lake, so
the nesting bass may very well be in that shallow/warm water this early in the
season. There are a couple islands near the ramp which might hold fish this
early. As I recall the talley at the end of the day was about even across the
board when it comes to which boats caught fish. I suspect that one of the
advantages to having the tourney so early in the year is a minimal number of
skiers (water too cold and few boats in the water). Besides if they come in so
close as to cause a canoe problems all you need do is nail the B_____D in the
head with a 1/2 oz spinner bait the next time he comes around.
ought to be fun...

Having just parted with my recently received tax refund, I can now
commit to attending the 2nd annual. Yesterday, I put a down payment
on a new Lund Tyee 4.9 with a 70 horse Evinrude. I take delivery
April 17 and hope to have at least 60 hours experience (every weekend
in between) by tourney time. I'll be there with bells on.
