142.0. "TOURNAMENT BASS FISHING" by BOVES::BPUISHYS (Bob Puishys) Mon Jun 23 1986 13:42

TOURNAMENT FISHING. The greatest thrill in BASS
fishing. For this note I would like to make a place for
all you seasoned pros to beginers to talk about tournament fishing.

This note can be a place for announcements for tournaments,
results, pats on the back for anyone who has placed, or just
a general information place about TOURNAMENT BASS FISHING.

Well...I guess I can temporarily pat myself on the back. The
bass I entered in the "HAWG" note of 6lbs 3oz put me into the lead
of a tournament I'm involved in right now. Four days earlier someone
had brought one in at 5 lbs 13 oz. The tourny is being run out of
the B&B bait shop in Clinton and prizes go to 1st and 2nd place
for the biggest large mouth and biggest small mouth. B&B may sponsor
another tourny in August and if anyone is interested I'll keep them
    posted.

POST IT! A buddy of mine and I do quite a bit of fishing,
particularily Bass. I have never entered a contest before and I
don't think he has either but I'm game! When ever we go out fishing
which is on the ave. of 2 - 3 times/week, there are always words
of who is the best fisherman. I'll finally put that debate to rest.

Hey Walter, consider this a challenge. May the biggest "HAWG" win.

    Bass Bob-
The tourney you mentioned in .3 sounds like a good one. Please
post more info. Are the teams you mentioned 2 man teams?

I am a very anxious fisherman right now! This Saturday 4 of us
head up to the Sacco River in N.H. for our "3rd Annual Sacco River
Run" for 6 relaxing and fish-filled days. Do you think I'm over
excited if I've had my camping stuff packed for the past 3 day???

I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE ELSE FROM DEC WAS FISHING THE MASS
TOURNAMENTS. I ALSO FISHED CHICOPEE. AS A MATTER OF FACT I WAS
ONE OF THE LAST 10 BOATS YOU MENTIONED. WE FINISHED 8TH. WHAT
KIND OF BOAT YOU GOT, I'LL WATCH FOR YOU AT BARTON'S COVE. WE FISH
OUT OF A HYDRASPORTS 475, TAN AND BROWN. IF YOU SEE ME, GIVE A

I drew number 7 and off to Conn we went. I don't know anyone else
from dec that fishes the trail. Have you fished the other two stops?
Webster lake we drew number 2 and wasted that one with no fish..
At lakeville we were 38th. We should have been in the top five
at Chicopee. Too many mental errors. My partner did not boat a
keeper. I had to do all the work. Good thing he owns the boat!!!!

Nice to here from a dec basser!

Speaking for myself, and perhaps several others I know, I'd certainly
like the opportunity to compete in some friendly tournaments.
Unfortunately, all I have is a 14' canoe which simply doesn't make
    it on the tourney trail.

Although I take my bass fishing serious and have managed to catch
my fair share of good sized fish and stringers, I certainly can't
consider myself a pro, or even semi-pro....but I don't consider
    myself a novice either.

If anyone is considering entering a tournamnet in NH and would like
a partner who's always willing to learn more...give me a call.

RE:.11 Had my first excellent day on the Conn river in weeks
yesterday! The Rain over the weekend really stirred up the old
stew pot and the fish have been scarce in my favorite spots; they're
there of course but not being caught. The mud started to settle
back to the bottom yesterday and the fish are bitin' again! The
key was to provide them with a little scent or sound to follow in
the darker water. In an hour I caught 3 smallmouths in the 2-3lb
class and a whole bunch of smaller fish. The 3 bigger ones were
caught on a vibrating spinner. Fellow next to me was using a
commercial scent product and caught a smallmouth that probably weighed
in over 4lbs. Then he caught a nice white perch, hooked it up to
a bobber, and took off in pursuit of the school! A rather productive
afternoon and welcome after being bass-skunked on Manchaug Sunday.

Hopefully next year Mass Bass format will change and the States
will be a little earlier...September-ish....The T.O.C was held at
a perfect time....The top 10 finishers in that tourney was a result
    of skill,and concentration.......
My prediction on the states will be "in the right place at the right
time"...I'm a firm believer of "No Luck Involved"...but this weekend
just may take a little of that....

    MassMaster here....

I'll be the first to admit that Oct. 7th-8th were both long, cold, and
windy....and nothing over 12" was netted by me,with the exception
of the 4# pike....that swallowed my grub, and didn't cut the line.

Sunday was cold, but I had more action in one 30' drop in the river, than
anywhere else...I would go one to tell you about "the one that got
away..." (really)...but I'd rather put the excuses away with the
    rod's,and tackle for this year.

Well Bassin bob Had the same kind of day as everyone else! ^;(

I stayed in the cove both days. I was fishing less then 5 feet
from the boat that ended 1 and 2nd after it was all over. They
caught limits and I got the big zipppppo.

Sunday I caught a nice 2.73lb but that was it. Just for the record
the top two people in the west caught all their fish on Green Weenies
on Ball jig heads. Fished in about 20 feet of water. The fish
were suspended about 15 feet. They would every now or then take
one as it went by. More then than now. The winning two people
did not run the entire day. They sat on the fish and waited them
    out.

See you all when the Ice comes.

    Hey Bob,
I too was fishing the green weenie on a ball jig, in some cases
right next to the guys who took 1, 2, I couldnt understand on Saturday
it worked fine but sunday it seemed that you had to hit them on the
head. The first day I dont think we burned 1 gallon of gas and
probalbly only less than 2 gallons on the second day. Once we got hits
or fish we waited it out. Worked on sat. but on sun they were all
    11"
