Conference wahoo::fishing

 You're going a bit late for trout, but several years ago I always went
    down in the spring to fish Peter's pond near Mashpee. there is a
    boat launch and we had success with light outfits and 4lb. line
    using a gold/fluorescent orange 1/8 oz. fjord spoon (no other size
    or color fjord seemed to work). There are always some big breeder
    rainbows put in there and the two best spots seemed to be a steep
    sand bank all the way across the pond from the boat launch and the
    wooded shoreline all the way at the end of the pond to your right
    (as you face toward the sandbank). Corn reputedly works well too,
    but you'll kill fish with it as they swallow the hook and also can't
    digest corn if they strip you.

    Not to be argumentative, but I find it hard to believe that corn
    cannot be digested when steel fish hooks left in the gut of a fish
    will dissolve in 2-3 days.  I know that when I eat corn, it goes
    in and then it comes out, but I haven't got the stomach of a fish!
    (and no...I won't see what happens if I swallow a hook!)

    	Trout CAN NOT digest corn!  It is true.  Haven't you ever seen
    one swimming on itside because it ate so much of some ones chum

    ANYWAY, FROM PETERS POND, GO BACK THE WAY YOU CAME AND TAKE
    A LEFT AT THE INTERSECTION OF QUAKER MEETINGHOUSE RD. AND 
    FOLLOW TO YOU HIT RT. 130 AND FOLLOW INTO THE CENTER OF TOWN!
    GO AROUND THE ROTARY AND STAY TO THE RIGHT..(GOLF COURSE ON LEFT)
    FOLLOW RIGHT TO THE BEACH! EXCELLENT BLUES AND BASS FISHING WITH
    A SOUTH WIND!! THEY'RE RUNNING EARLY THIS YEAR AND WITH SOME SIZE!!
    SOME REPORTS OF FISH TAKEN ALREADY!! GONNA BE A GOOD YEAR!!!

    I am planning a trip to the cape (MA) in the next few weeks.
    
    Are the Blues and even better Stripers hitting at all?
    We will be fishing most likly Race Point, from the surf.
    Bait or plugs and if so what kind.  
    
    Any info would be greatly appricated.

    I haven't fished race point in (5) years, but here goes for what
    it's worth. 
    You'll need a surf rod that will get you out about a 100 yards to fish 
    for blues and stripers. Large tackle is required, I have taken blues
    in 20lb range from the beach, and saw a 29lber taken. I have also
    taken FLUKE from the beach on fresh-water tackle. They run small
    a 2 lber would be large.
    
    A beach buggy is a big asset to fishing the Race. To get an 
    oversand vechiclke permit you'll need a four-whell drive, 15ft tour
    chain, air-pressuer gage that goes down to 5lbs, a shovel, bumper
    jack, a board large enough to support the jack in sand, and a fire
    extinquisher.
    
    The best fishing spots are the Telophone pole rip, locate about
    a mile from the race pt parking lot, Race pt, about 2-3 miles, and
    Hatches harbor. 
    
    Herring Cove beach and Land's end are also good spots.
    
    I use swimmers (blue atom), darter's (Stan Gibbs White), and poppers.
    If squid are in then the reverse atom can be productive on Stripers.
    
    Bait fishing use sandeels on the bottom or live eels. 
    
    Just before dark is the best time for blues. My best luck for Stripers
    is on the on-going tide at night. 
    
    The weekend of the full-moon in August should be peak. Look for
    sandeels on the sand-bars around Race pt and hatches harbor after
    mid-night if the tide is out. If the sand-eels are in you can get
    buckets of them here.
    
    New-Seabury and Popanauset beaches are produing lots ot blues in
    the 5lb range.

    Hey,folks I was looking around the notes to see if I should bother
    taking my rod with me to the Cape the weekend of Oct 25. I've been
    invited to an action packed "men's weekend " on Nauset right across
    from Orleans/Chatham. The "plan" is fishing,but we're all novices
    at surf casting so maybe we just 'fess up and take the Jack Daniels.
    I did some surf casting (my first real attempt) in July down there
    and had a great time with fluke and Stripers (all less the 30"-now
    I know why the 30" min. 8-( but it sure was fun). I keep reading
    about the fish migrating in the fall and thought I'd check when
    I got down there at one of the shops but if any of you have advice
    I'd really appreciate it. Any fishing at all? If so,what gear? 
    
    Don't worry, we'll take the Jack Daniels anyway.

    I know this is an old note, but I hope someone who knows some spots
    around Mid-Cape for surf fishing.

    I dont really know what you mean by mid cape and I'm more familliar
    with the Orleans, Chattham, Wellfleet area but, here's some
    suggestions.  My suggestion would be to find out which way the wind
    has been blowing and pick a beach with on shore winds.
    
    Cape cod bay
    
    	sandy neck in barnstable 	better if you have a 4 wheel drive
    
    Nantuckett sound
    
    	almost any of the Dennis beachs - the one with the jettys are good
    	- you'll have to go early or late in the day to avoid swimmers at
    	  some of the spots
    
    	the entrance of wichmere and saquatuckett harbors can be good
    	(the spelling isnt even close to accurate)  Again, try the jettys.
    
    Closer to Falmouth:
    
    	Craigville beach has a good reputation (early and late in the day)
    
    I'd call one of the shops the day before for the latest news -
    Cape Cod rod and reel		hyannis 508-775-7543, or 
    the Goose Hummock in Orleans	 - dont know the number -
