113.0. "FISHING MAPS" by SYSENG::NELSON () Wed May 07 1986 13:16

Your offer of a fishing map of Wachusett Res., Jack, in 71. is
a time saving quide I could certainly use. That gave me the idea
of starting this note for identifying sources of fishing maps of
ponds, lakes, rivers, streams, swamps, or wherever there are fish.
Anyone who has a source of a body of water can place it here. What
we're looking for is a map (can be hand drawn, doesn't matter) that
gives information valuable for fishing. Of course some will be
more detailed then others. Such detail could be roads, access points,
boat ramps, delivery points, bottom depths, hot spots, structure,
size, species known, etc. People can then send mail directly to
person listed for copies. As a fisherman, I'm always looking for
maps that show up that I can use on a body of water that's new to
me and can possibly save me a lot of time in deciding where to fish.
The format can be something like this:

    NAME OF WATER:
    LOCATION:
    SPECIES:
    INFORMATION PROVIDED ON MAP:
    WHERE TO RECEIVE COPIES:

I'll start the first reply, and we can see how it goes. Any
suggestions can be added to the responses.

113.2Maps in Mass.....FELIX::SCHOLZRon....and thanks for all the fishWed May 07 1986 13:4425
For everyones information, the state Division of Wildlife and Fisheries
has maps available on 288 ponds and lakes in the state of Mass.
You can pick these up at any Fisheries location.

These maps vary in their information. Some are very detailed and
others just show the body of water and its locale. I have ~200
of these maps and find that they do help. The main thing lacking
is where to fish them and if you can get to them. The detailed ones
have all this info including ramps if available and even stocking
info for trout etc. They are free if you get five, then they would
like 5 cents a piece over 5. I have collected mine over the years
as I have found some water I would like to fish.

Very early in this notes file there is a note on bass ponds. Those
interested may wish to reference it, before adding or inquiring
    in this note.

To keep this note somewhat sane, if anyone wants info on a pond
or lake, send me a mail message and if I have in my records I will
post it for all. Name of the pond/lake and its location would help.

If and when I finish my "computer" file, I will post all the ones
I have info on so you pick and choose more exactly.

    Tight lines, Ron

If anyone gets into Washington and Oregon, let me know and I can
get maps, places where you can put in and take out (for drift boats)
plus most any other info you might need. Happy to send it.

For anyone in Mass. there is a monthly magazine called Fins
and Feathers that gives a detailed description and a contour map
of a selected pond/lake in Massachusetts. I have been receiving

lakes/ponds which have been covered and anyone who would like
a copy of the contour map and article can send me mail and I'll
    send them out a copy.
