| Don,
I never fished it mysel but last year at the North East bass
master classic, 3-day tourniment, Mass team was the winners. What
they were using was a 1/2 oz to 1oz orange brown Fleck spinner baits.
They used them on very long rods (like flipping sticks). This gave
a very long cast and long retrieves. The fish were very spooked
and the boats could not get up close. The fished most rock and sand
bars in about 10' to 15 feet water. Thoses spinner baits were the
hoot plug.
I belive the winner caught 39lbs in 3 days. (don't quote the
weight).
well good luck and good basin.
bassin bob
the baits also had orange blades.

Just my opinion Don, but this time of the year and with the forecast
in the thirties, I would think of vertical jigging, looking for
humps off the bottom in 20-25 feet of water. With the front just
having gone through I would expect the bass to be suspended and
facing inward to the sides of these. You may have to hit them on
the head :^).
good luck and Tight lines, Ron

| Your right Ron....
We didn't go yesterday (today's Sunday), too cold and TOO windy...
(did fish the banks of the Merrimack yesterday, but not for too
long - the wind was ridiculous...nothing)
However, we're supposed to give a shot today, it's supposed to hit
60, less wind (I can see that already), and sunny - so it may not
be too bad... -but the temps around 35 right now... May 4th?????
Oh well, we'll be sure to bring plenty of homebrews!

| Hey Don,
Did you get out?? I don't know what is was like by you, but we had
snow on the ground Sun. Just a light dusting, but it was white. Needless
to say I didn't go anywhere, but how about you? Sorry to hear that
you didn't make it Sat. (not surprised, just sorry:^)
I'd like to get up to Wini this summer, but I still haven't heard
that N.H. recognizes Mass boat registrations. Do you happen to know
anything about that? I'm taking delivery of my new boat this weekend
so, I'll be out nomatter what the weather is like.

| We got out, but not to Winnxxx, just the Merrimack.
By the time we were ready to go, the wind picked up enough to make
Winxxx out of the question. But, we did go out on the Merrimack
for awhile... wanted to try out the new Z6000 - speaking of which,
has anyone ever tried the thru-hull method - this is the way that
my cousin installed it, more or less temporarily - but it seemed
to work ok, except the top of the readout seemed to have abit of
garbage... I'm pretty sure he's going to move the transducer...
And we didn't catch anything either... so far I'm only good for one
SMALL large mouth this year... this weather has been the pits...
however, maybe this cold got rid of the mayflies?????!!!!
what happened to temps in the 70's????

| Hey Don,
You brew your own too aye, it's to bad that you live so far away I
am sure you and I could have a real good time drinking Homebrew and
getting in a few good casts. I have a question for you though, how
do you transport the home brew without stirring up the sediment(sp?)
on the bottom? I have tried just about everything and can't solve
this problem and boy that yeast sure makes you fart 8^). Well have
a good one and I really am interested on how you transport you beer.

RE; Don Mac .5................The "bit of garbage at the top" of the screen
was probably a result of wave turbulence....I got the same on my
Z6000 when fishing from my canoe....the transducer was well down
in the water and there was still some fuzz at the top....however
its no consequence unless your looking for logs floating on top...
in which case the "eye's have it"...this "top fuzz" can be reduced somewhat
by playing with the sensitivity and discrimination level
controls.....the Z6000 is a GREAT fishing tool.....I can now determine
not only the bottom contour but also the consistency of the
bottom...ie: rock, gravel, boulders, weedbeds, etc...schools of smelt
and other baitfish show up REAL well in deeper water as well
as the occassional "tuna" just off the bottom...it is sensitive
enought to show the swirles of water from my canoe paddles dispersing
into the deeps.........

Yea Don, I sure am. Ranger Classic Star (375v) w/merc XR2 150 and
enough electronics to launch a cruise missle. Deep red over silver,
with a deep red interior. (sort of burgundy I guess) Must be that

As for the out-of-state boat in N.H. can anyone else help me on
this question.

It is a pain, but at $10, it's not too expensive.

Hello there Jack,
Ya know, after I wrote that, I asked my self the same question...
I'm a novice at homebrew'n, I'm just enjoying my first batch now.
I wasn't sure how they'd take the travel - but Sunday afternoon
I poured one that was shaken up abit, and boy, once that sidiment
gets stirred around, the taste DOES go downhill...
So, I guess homebrews are exactly that HOMEbrews... Good stuff
though, alot of fun to make, and even MORE fun to drink! I'm starting
my second batch this week! PS: are you aware of the HOMEBREW note???

| Ron,
As stated in a couple of notes back, NH does require a NH reg.
I made a quick phone call; they asked, and I guessed -
Inboard or out? out
hp? 150
steering wheel? yes
cabin? no
length? 17?
year? 86???
for the above it's $31 if an 85 - $25.70
if it's a 86 18ft - 38.50
if it's a 85 18ft - 30.50
oh yea, there is also special NH bilaw that only goes for experienced
basser's with rangers - you must be accompanied by a new hampshire
resident/novice basser/dec employee/who's initials are dm!!!!8^)

Hi Don,
Yes I am aware of the homebrew note and have gotten quite a bit
out of it. There are alot of good hints and deals on equipment in
there also, hey maybe we should put a note in there concerning the
transportation of homebrew, we may get a good suggestion.

fishing deep water for lakers and salmon, the "Winni Derby" was
going on, the largest on the board when we went by there was a 8.75

| I was up last weekend. Did a little perch and pickeral ice fishing
with my 5 yr old daughter. Had a great time.
There was ice all over the lake, so doubt there is enough open yet
for a boat. The ice must be extremely dangerous by now. I saw
very few people out on most of the lake. If you go, I would stick to
be back part of very protected bays.
btw, we were fishing a Lee Mills in the very back of Moultonboro
bay. The ice there we 16" - 18", but there was a patch of open
water not too far away. As I said, be extremely careful.
Good luck and safe fishing,
Mark

| The NH Fish and Game has issued a warning for would be ice fishermen and
snowmobilers that the ice is becoming unsafe all over the state. I don't think
there's enough open water to warrant a boat, but I also don't think there's
enough ice to be safe unless you are very selective and carefull. Maybe this
would be a good weekend to clean up the equipment and prepare it for that
first really nice day when you wish you'd already respooled and cleaned out the
tackle box...

Any Lake Winni experts out there?
I'll be staying in Wolfeboro all next week and I plan on taking my boat.
I usually don't fish for salmon, so I plan to do some small mouth assaulting.
Where/what is the best place on Winni for small mouth bass (i.e. structure,
rocks)?
If anyone can give some hints for this time of year, or their secret lure/spots
(I won't tell), send me mail at MILKWY::MLOEWE.
