24.0. "Attn: Flyfisherpersons" by KATADN::BLUM () Fri Aug 30 1985 12:54

Hi: I just discovered this notes file today, I like it altho it seems to

be rather oriented toward Busters (of bass) and Gobbers (of worms) as we

sometimes call them here......anyhow...any serious flyfisherpersons out

there? There's a little known notes file for YOU, its a long way away

(Clonmel Ire) but just a few hops and a connect away from your local

VAXen.... try EKLV00::sys$notes:flyfish ...its been up for some time but

just hasn't seemed to takeoff yet...and would provide a forum for any of

you who flyfish, tie flies or wish you did.....

Ps: I have been known to bust a bass or two myself...5 lb 6 Oz largemouth

is my best this year..taken after dark, in the rain, on a pearl/red spotted

flyrod popper...we do have some good bass'in here in Maine..but have yet

to find the proper fly to imitate a worm.

Hi Ed;

	nice to here from a fling person. I mydelf do most of my basssin
with a fly rod. The notes file on fly fishing seems to trout, salomn
Not too many bass over there. We could have a not in this file on fly fishing
for bass since this seems to be a bass note.

try a 4" worm on you fly rod or even (I have one) 1 1/2 with a small spinner
In the spring its the hottes lure around for flyfishing bass. poppers are
great in the summer and fall but just don't make it in the spring.

also a bigg goddly looking fly with hackels 2" over the hood. sort jerks
makes it act like a hert minnor. Gould for bass.

well nice hering from you and good bassin
bob

Do you think they'd consider combining their file with this one. I spent last
night reading the Flyfishing file (took about 1 hr, actually) and my
conclusion is that we really have a lot in common; flyfishers & bassbusters.

What's a popper?

Bob, steve......I think you may have a good idea in combining the two notes

as flyfishing is definitely a subset of "fishing"...I think the maintainer

of "flyfish" on EKLV00 is WARNER (EKLV00::WARNER).....I am MAINE-ly a

flyfisherman but am also interested in all forms of piscatorial pursuit..

Steve..."whats a popper" a popper is a lure. usually made out of carved

cork or cast plastic, sometimes deerhair..etc...which when cast upon the

water and retreived with short jerks goes POPPOPPOP...or in some designs

GLUGGLUG POPPOP.. if flysishing applications these POPPERS typically are

crafted to weigh in at well below the 1/8 OZ of your typical "small"

spinfishing lure....too heavy makes for rough flycasting.......the POPPERS

are typically painted in "froggy and buggy" type schemes, such as Yellow/

green and brown/green/yellow...etc....also typical is a long tail made of

dyed feathers (Saddle hackle) and a collar at the rear also made of hackle.

For the past two years the fastest "popper" type flyrod lure for bass which

I have been using with great success is a pearl body with red spots, a black

collar at the rear and bright yellow feathers for the log tail... I like the

overall size of the POPPER to run about 2 1/2 to 3 inches overall with the tail

making up about 1/2 the length... fished on the surface at dusk and early

in the morning this can be a dynamite method for your large bass..so dynamite

in fact that flyrods are typically BANNED from BASSMASTER events due to

their unfair advantage... a typical POPPER equivalent for use with spin/cast

equipment would be the jitterbug..which is basically the same concept but much

heavier for use with spin/cast gear........

24.4****** Free Turkey Feathers ******WAHOO::LEVESQUETBDTue May 23 1989 13:347
    Due to the outstanding generosity of a lucky Deccie who got himself a
    pair of turkeys this spring, I am able to offer you fly-tyers some free
    turkey feathers. I have both wing feathers and tail feathers, and they
    are in really good shape. I also have about 20 times what I can use.
    Contact me if you'd like to share in the bounty.
