505.0. "Ramps by Plum Island?" by WRKSYS::HARACKIEWICZ (Stan Harackiewicz (MLO)) Wed Jun 19 1996 08:55

    I just got a 17ft boat and now am looking forward to getting it
    out by Plum Island. I was up there a couple of weeks ago and
    found the Public ramp on the M.R. I think I remember seeing a
    note there saying something about being charged for using the
    ramp. Does anyone know what the deal is? (this is the ramp in
    Newburyport).

    Are there any other ramps new the lower end of Plum Island that
    might be easier to get out on, without having to us the M.R.

    I assume you mean Cashman's Landing.  It's a $4 launch fee, apparently
    this is payable if and when there is somebody around to collect. If
    there is noone there, you launch for free. Don't ask me what hrs
    they collect, it's a mystery to me......

    There is another ramp at Salibury State Park, but believe it is now
    closed. They are planning to do a $360,000 project to renovate it.
    The bad news is that it will be closed for 3 months (in the peak of
    the season!). Judging from a newpaper article, there has been some
    controversy in the town about no permits filed for that type of work.
    I think they delayed the start, but may be at it by now.

505.2Cashman's Landing location?WRKSYS::HARACKIEWICZStan Harackiewicz (MLO)Thu Jun 27 1996 09:149
    Mark, can you give me directions to Cashman's Landing or the just
    the general area that is in, and I'll try to find it from there.
    I'm not yet familiar with this area (yet)...I hope to be, before the
    summer is out. My plan is to try to get up there the weekend of July
    4th.

    thanks

    I overheard at a party that the salisbury ramp is still open, even
    during the construction. Any info or phone # I can call to confirm??

    re: .-1, try calling Tim's Bait shop in Salisbury. I don't have
    the number handy, but they should be in the book. Their business
    is pretty heavily tied to people driving by on the way to that
    ramp. They told me I could call them to ask about the ramp. Let
    us know what you find out.

    re: .-2 The ramp in on the south side of the river, just up river
    from the rt 1 bridge. The easiest way for me to describe is to
    take 110 to Salisbury and then turn right to head south on rt 1.
    Take your first right after crossing the river. The ramp will
    be on your right and there is a small sign that says state
    boat ramp.

    Mark,

505.5Thanks for the infoWRKSYS::HARACKIEWICZStan Harackiewicz (MLO)Fri Jun 28 1996 08:165
    Mark, thanks for the info. I'm going to try to get up there on the 4th.
    I also heard that the blues are starting to come in.

505.6Shorter and LESS Traffic .......SALEM::PAPPALARDOMon Jul 01 1996 16:3017

    An easier way to get there instead of dealing with beach traffic is to
    take a right at the lights afetr the Rte 95 overpass (Donahue Chrysler
    on corner). Follow down over the Chain Bridge (2 of them, excellent
    area for up river Striper and Blues action). At sort of a 3 way
    intersection take a hard left. You'll pass a ball field on the right
    and drop doen a small hill and one of 2 marina's will be on the left.
    On the left again will be an Ice Cream stand which the second marina is
    located (they also have a big ramp). Continue down and Cashman's Ramp
    will be right near Towle Silver. If you reach Rte. 1 overpass your way
    to far. There is one more ramp after the over pass right across from
    the main portion of Newburyport Center.

                                                         Good Luck,

    Guy, thanks for the directions. If the weather is good, I plan on
    getting out on the 4th.

    Hopefully I'll have something to report in the striper/blue notes.

    Just a f.y.i. that I talked to the folks at salisbury state parm in
    regards to the ramp re-opening and they said they have no idea and they
    dont know anyone who might have a clue. Anyone out there know who might
    have a clue as to when this project will be completed?

505.10WOW - This is a great dealSTAR::JMCLAUGHLINWed Mar 26 1997 10:429

Being right there at the mouth sure make this
nice. Have you heard if they are planning to
extend the hours? I believe in previous years
they wouldn't let you pass the gate after 11 pm.

		Thanks for the update

I've been denied access in past years before 8 AM and after 8 PM.
I don't think there's a problem if you buy a season pass. They dropped
price last years and it's very reasonable... only $15.

I agree that the ramp's proximity to the mouth makes it very convenient.

Anyone know if the state did anything to the second ramp next to the main
ramp? It was only good within an 1-2 hrs either side of high tide. Otherwise,
you got stuck in the mud!

Looking forward to the first run of stripers within a month or so!

    In the past, a seasons pass would get you to the boat ramp any time.
    I've never been denied access, even at 2:00 a.m. Of course, I don't
    know what their policy will be this year.

    Mark,

505.13Will the new improved have a dock?MSBCS::MERCIERFri Mar 28 1997 12:4312
    Could anyone tell me if the new boat ramp will also have some sort of
    docking to tie onto or at least facilitate getting into the boat a
    little easier.

    In my buddies 21 footer I always seem to have the great pleasure of
    holding the boat while everyone else jumps in. Then I get to push
    us off out of harms way (re. concrete) and try to swing into the
    boat. Last time I left a certain part of my anatomy on the rail

    :^o
    It was very painfull

So... did they do anything to the second launch ramp off to the right?

Did they extend the pavement so one could launch at low tide?
