| Fresh or salt? Cheap or topline? Do you have a particular
blank in mind, or do you want to play with some first?

487.2 | A couple of sources | NEMAIL::GREENBERG | | Tue Mar 19 1996 08:44 | 19 |
| There are a bunch of mail order sources. One I like is Angler's
Workshop in Washington State. I'll post the 800 number (don't have it
with me now). They sell both fresh- and salt-water blanks. Their
operation is right next door to the Lamiglass factory so they can get
pretty much anything fairly quickly if they don't have in stock. They
also run a great sale every now and then on blemished blanks that they
get from Lamiglass and sell them for very good prices.
The other source that I just discovered last year is Surfland on Plum
Island. They have a pretty good inventory of salt water blanks and
wrapping supplies.
There are other mail order sources. You can often find the ads for them
in the classified pages of Salt Water Sportsman.
Hope that info helps.

| Jack,
Right on Lake Avenue, in Worceter there is a new tackle shop that
opened up and does rod work. I can't remember the name, something like
Fishermans Retreat. Anyhow it's right next to the old Roy's Marina.

| B.C.,
I've rapped a few rods before. What I'm looking for is some one local
that handles blanks. I use to do a lot of buisness with Dicks.
Use to rap rods and tie a bunch of bugs for the sports around the Natick
area a few years back, but I need a couple of bait casting rods and
can't bring myself to buy a store bought rod. They're mostly crap for a
lot of money and the prospect of buying blanks through the mail doesn't
do a thing for me.One mans medium action is anothers broom stick,
or something like that. But what I'm realy looking for is 6-61/2' crank
-bait and a 7'worm rod blank. If you know of anything please let me
know.
Thanks,
Jack B.

487.8 | Order 1 of each and return what you don't like! | ROBERT::CRONIN | Life's Short, Fish Hard! | Wed Mar 27 1996 08:17 | 26 |
| RE: .7
Jack,
I fully agree with you about personal preferences in rod
actions! When I mentioned Cabela's I really didn't mean just
random ordering. Most of the blanks listed by them relate directly
to the manufacturers catalog numbers. In other words, if you had
been rod wiggling in the stores and found a rod that you -really-
liked the feel of but the workmanship is trash, you might be able
to order the blank from Cabela's and build it right! Some of the
local shops that regularly stock blanks, mostly fly shops could
also order say Loomis blanks for you. I'm quite sure that Jim
Bender at the Lower Forty in Worcester would be more than happy
to help you.
I -really- like the Loomis rods, but I don't like the
price tag! I'm not sure about Worcester, but Lew Hortons has
a few Loomis rods that you could wiggle to see if you like one.
If you're headed down the Cape you might want to stop
at Red Top in Buzzards Bay. The last time I was in there they
had a fair selection of Lamiglass blanks.
If I hear of anything I'll post it here...
