461.0. "FISHING/SWIMMING LOWER CAPE W/KIDS - PLS HELP..." by MSBCS::BIBEAULT () Mon Aug 07 1995 15:12

    Hi,

    Next week we'll be camping In Sandwhich. We'll have friends visiting
    that have two young boys (6 & 8). We'd like to take them out fishing
    and swimming and picknicking for a day. I enjoy fishing the Canal but
    that is out of the question for safety reasons. Would anyone know of a
    good place to go (LOWER Cape) that would be suitable with young kids that
    we could fish and allow the kids to fish and/or play around the waters
    edge? (prefer saltwater) The kids are good kids and I really hope we
    can find a spot that would allow them some fun without being as dangerous
    as breakers are.

    Thanks!!!
    Marc

	   I'd suggest around the mouth of Scorton's Creek or Old Harbor.

	If you really like the Canal you could try around the base of the
	Scusset Jetty. As the tide goes down there's a little sandy area
	and some not too steep rocks for the kids to pick around in. With
	guidance they can go into holes in the jetty at low tide, just make
	sure they don't go in too far... Most kids won't, it's a little
	spooky for them...

    Or call Outermost Marina in Chatham. Ask if they still run a boat
    service over to South Beach - or whatever its call nowdays.
461.3Scorton's Creek & Old Harbor? MSBCS::BIBEAULTWed Aug 09 1995 11:145
    Where's Scorton's Creek and Old Harbor? Chatham would be great too.

    Thanks!

461.4You asked about Sandwich, right?SUBPAC::CRONINWed Aug 09 1995 11:286
	   Scorton's and Old Harbor are on the Bay side in Sandwich...

	I guess it depends on how far you want to travel. Remember that
	the Cape is over 70 miles long.

461.6How about Nantucket Sound???MSBCS::MERCIERWed Aug 09 1995 16:3210
    While were on the topic. It just so happens that I've rented a place
    on Nantucket Sound, South Chatam. Now if I am not mistaken, is this not
    a good place to fish for Stripers It's for Labor Day week......

    Honey? Did I say I wasn't bring any fishing equipment on vacation? ;^)

    Any suggestions are welcomed.

    Thanks,

This reminds me of the following that was recently sent to me...

	"Give a man a fish and you've fed him for a day.
	 Teach a man to fish and he disappears on weekends."

How true, eh?
