447.0. "Save Our Environment Campaign 4/28/95" by MKOTS1::MONBLEAU () Wed Apr 19 1995 17:09

I hate to politicize a notes file, but I am gambling that peopl who
love to fish also are interested in things like clean water and a
    healthy environment.

    Friday, April 28, 1995
Thousands of Americans will be calling the US Senate to remind them
that they do not have a contract with America to to destroy the
environment and our health. Many of the takings and risk assessmenet
bills now moving through the US Senate would weaken enforcement of
environmental laws and cause a mountain of red tape and lawsuits. Now
is the time to say: this is not the way to streamline our government
    and revive the economy.

Please call your senators on April 28 and ask them to:
    (1) oppose the roll back of environmental and safety laws that protect
        our health and environment, and
    (2) support efforts based on sound science and the Constitution, not
        more bureaucracy and lawsuits.

To call your Senator, dial the main switchboard 202/224-3121 and ask
for your Senators. Be persistent since the lines will probably be busy.
If you cannot get through, try again on Monday, May 1.

If you live in N.H., your senators are:

    Judd Greg 202/224-3324
    Bob Smith 202/244-2841

The above program is being promoted by the Natioal Wildlife Association

447.2Write a letter not an emailDELNI::OTAWed May 17 1995 14:0318
I listened to a long interview with some one on the Presidents staff.
He said quite candidly that email is really not given much credence.
He said that over the internet they get tons of email and that there is
absolutely no way to respond to the amount thats recieved. He also
said that hard written letters are given more weight and are responded
too. he said that any governement official will tell you that email is
written on the spur of the moment without thought or planning. Hard
mail tends to be more reasoned and thought out as if when writing a
letter we put more effort into it and therefore they are more
reasonable documents to respond too. As I listened to him, I had to
agree. We all get tons of email a day and most of it just spur of the
moment stuff. So if you really want to make a difference write a
letter. I know I have always gotten hard responses from whatever
official I have written. In fact in some cases beneath the typewritten
responses have been handwritten notes from the senator or congressman
    thanking me for the time.
