| My daughter and I were in Zihuatenejo two weeks ago. We fished one day
with a charter captain there - went out about 20 miles, caught a few
small blackfin and some mackeral. It was a very disappointing day for
the captain, but we had a great time. He catches a lot of big tuna and
sailfish, some marlin, dolphin, etc.
At one point we were on the edge of several acres of leaping, cavorting
dolphin - hundreds of them. They use them to locate tuna as we use
birds. It was great just to watch them "play".
Cost $120, 24' locally-made boat (fiberglass over wood, very little
deadrise). We fished nine hours. Lots of billfish-style trolling -
with spreaders. When we'd spot a fish, we'd toss out a mullet.
Looked like there could be good prospects there from the shore, as
well. My daughter parasailed & could see large fish close to shore.
Fishermen there were working the rocks with handlines and mullet
fillets.
It is incredibly inexpensive to travel in Mexico now - nice hotel rooms
with bath, fireplace (in the mountains), balcony for $14, great meals
complete for $5 or less, walk through a market & buy much fruit in
many varieties and spend $2.

| Depending on just how far west you want to consider, we went to Los
Cabos (very tip of baja) the last week in Feb. The fishing was great
and we loved the place. As .-1 said, it's a great time to visit
Mexico.
